In my experience, I would've been fine if he did steal Yura's body when he "showed concern" over me having to burn Melina, but then he turned into a maniacal dickhead and told me to go to the three fingers so that I could burn everyone and everything in frenzied flame. I had to end him fast.

maybe because of the "we will trade no longer" part. giving people who don't choose this a slight disadvantage seems counterintuitive for what's supposed to be the bad ending. obviously you wouldn't get the frenzied flame seal either without accepting the three fingers but oh well. the lord of Frenzied flame ending and the age of stars ending are the philosophically richest endings imo

This is by far one of the best prepare to cry , the whole storie about frenzy flame is just so good. The despair and sadnness i felt with this was something else. But one recomendation for you Jack if you are interested in a diferent aproach that looks more into historical, visual and design story telling. In the Japanese translation, the Loathsome Dung Eaters threat to the player, that the round table holds protection is what keeps them from being defiled? When he says 'Defiled' usually in English you just assume he's going to do what his name implies and such with your character after killing you, right? In the Japanese translation, it's him basically stating he's going to kill you, eat your innards and r@p3 your corpse, somehow forever tainting your characters soul in the process. Keep this in mind for when you consider that SHABRIRI Is apparently still the most reviled person in all of history in the elden ring universe.

I always interpeted it as Shabriri having the motivation of ultimate nihilism. He wants to end all suffering, by ending all of existance. And he is willing to use whatever method, no matter how cruel, to achieve it. Including subjecting the merchants to the cruelest fate in a fromsoft game. He is, afterall, the most reviled man in history, reguardless of the golden order.

@@dadab22 For him to be Nihilistic the world must already have been is such a shitty state. And it was with the Merchants that the three fingers appeared. So the Golden Order is the reason behind the shittyness and the Mechant summon the flame of frenzy. Shabriri doesn't lie to you, i think it would go against his principles to do so. Instead he wants to convince you to view the horrors of the world as he does, as all those poor souls that willingly gave their own eyes.

@@AlexanderForsman I disagree. I have met people (and used to be a person) who were nihilistic for no reason at all, and used it as justification do horrible things. It can be used as an excuse for all immoral behavior. I got the feeling that Shabriri wanted to burn the world just because he wanted to. A true sociopath. I'm not saying the golden order isn't the reason the world is so broken. I fullheartedly agree with you on that. However, that doesn't mean Shabriri has just motivation for doing what he did. If he really did want to be free of pain, then he would stay dead, rather than say "I cannot die". He has his own agenda. I think the biggest clue that it was a lie that put the merchants down there is that Mogh is the final line of defence. Mohg. The omen lord of blood, that is willing to do anything to destroy the golden order, and surplant it with his Mohgwyn Dynasty, is the final line of defence against finding the merchants. If they were simply imprisoned because they realised how bad the golden order was, then he would have broken them out, if only to serve him. Afterall, we do find a mercant in his "palace". However, he instead *aids* in keeping the great caravan hidden. He fully believes that they worshipped the three fingers...which was a lie. Told by Shabriri

If you think about it, the Flame of Frenzy is just the concept of regression taken to the absolute extreme. To destroy all that divides and distinguishes is to forcefully make everything converge back into one. The Flame itself says as much when it mentions that the Greater Will made a mistake that lead to a lot of despair and suffering. The Frenzied Flame is still an aspect of the Greater Will even if it is cut off and quarantined in the depths of Leyndell.

I really liked Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring, as I always enjoyed dark fantasy having that nihilistic touch to them. I didn't kill Shabriri in my first playthrough just because his line "Incinerate all that divides and distinguishes" hit me hard .

I ended up realizing that if you leave him alive and claim the frenzied flame, you can summon him for Godfrey. Him and I bullied the fuck out of the first elden lord. Mainly because shabriris hp bar is built like a fucking steel mill. He took hit after hit, and grab after grab and still ended the fight above 50% hp.

The one thing I wish for in this game is a scene at the end of the game if you use the Frenzy Flame to spare Melina's life and then cure it (for those of you who don't know, yes, you can cure the frenzy flame within you)... like, maybe just something small; like you take a seat on the throne and the camera slowly pans up to show Melina standing in front of you and she just smiles or something... maybe I'm asking for an ending that is too positive from FromSoft?

Why? Her entire purpose is to serve as kindling to burn the Erdtree. This is what she desires. This is why we take her to the foot of the Erdtree. She doesn't want to be saved. By "saving" her, you're robbing her of fulfilling her purpose and condemning her to a lifetime of being burned and bodyless. If anything, she would despise you for that lmao

If you get burned by the 3 fingers AFTER Melina sacrifices herself to burn the Erdtree then you just become the Frenzied Lord and burn away the world since she's already dead or gone. If you get burned by the 3 fingers BEFORE Melina sacrifices herself then she's still alive and plans to kill you since you became the Frenzied Lord. She only comes after the player tarnished if they actually become Frenzied Lord though. If you get burned so that Melina doesn't sacrifice herself and then rid yourself of the Frenzied Flame by using Miquella's Needle then she doesn't come after you, though you're also locked out of the Frenzied Flame ending if you use Miquella's needle to "cure" yourself.

My take on the Frenzied flame: For a flame to exist their must be a spark to start it, that spark was the 3 fingers itself. The thing was abandoned by the Order, left to be forgotten in the deepest reaches of a sewer gaol and to then be replaced. We are aware that the fingers are alive and sentient but it’s reaction is to be expected… frenzied madness. The fuel for such a flame, suffering and a supplier so when Shabriri encountered it’s writings or perhaps it communicated with him he did its bidding. What he said is unclear perhaps the Merchants were already a people of persecution by the Golden order and so had an unknown connection in place that would only be revealed when they were cast to their fate. Or he did simply use slander but he doesn’t seem to ever lie to us now. His words lead to the Order’s actions but if anything this shows the Order being oppressive and hostile to any word of another religion/rule, now look at what the Order did and reflect for a moment… Eventually they went for Shabriri since he was the first to speak of the Frenzied flame and the 3 fingers or perhaps they found slander but again has he actually lied? Upon his death he became almost one with the frenzied flame and would not be alone in this but that is less important on this matter, and on top of his death he died smiling and then the flame manifested itself. We now skip to the moment we meet Shabriri, he uses Yura as a vessel for Frenzy uses Despair as it’s catalyst and he died in despair. If he willingly gave his body or not does not matter for Shabriri could use any body but it appears he picked Yura for some unknown reason. Regardless, he tells you exactly what the frenzied flame can do and what will happen. Again we come back to the Golden Order, at this point another character Goldmask came to a less nihilistic conclusion but that’s just a factor to what I ask you now… Look at the Order and tell me they are the Good force in this land. Look at the Misbegotten, look at the Omen, Look at the Claymen, Look at the Merchants! All persecuted and mistreated for simply being what they are! The Frenzy flame won’t end life fully no, it will simply allow for a new world to come forth from the clean slate it leaves behind. For Better or For Worse, May Chaos take the Lands between and the World it resides in!

I heavily recommend the videos from tarnished archeologist about the frenzied flame and the finger. It goes over the real life inspirations behind these concepts. It's some fascinating stuff, from Hebrew myth to political schisms in the christian world.

This cutscene broke me and gave me this decision, to never achieve the Frenzied Flame ending. Its an achievement yes, but i would skip it with all my might. The Story itself is very interesting. Shabriri itself is an interesting "Villain". But still, i will never activate the frenzied flame ending.

What makes me absolutely dislike the Frenzied Flame Ending was the secret cutscene. Not because it was scary, because the death of Torrent. It makes me cry, because Torrent doesnt deserved that. He was loyal to his end. Thats why i never choose on my own for this ending. For the achievement, okay i can make an exeption, but after that, never ever again

23:50 I personally decided it fit better to let Melina die after killing Shabriri, but before he could say what going to the Forge entails, causing my character to go absolutely insane and seek out the Flame of Frenzy on his own to burn everything to ash. It helps that, because Melina was already dead, I didn’t have to listen to her speech that would have most likely succeeded in changing my mind and going for the Ranni ending again.

I've posted this on Vaati's video but I want to send it here too because I want to see your guys' thoughts about this theory! I had been thinking for a long time about the Three Fingers and the Flame and only came to this thought recently What if Shabriri's slander wasn't against the Caravan, but against the Two Fingers and the Greater Will? Those two entities are so embedded within The Lands Between and The Golden Order that most worship them in one way or another. Having been in the past, it's possible a very few amount of people were skeptical of them compared to when we entered, maybe even none at all. Shabriri discovering the words of the Three Fingers and spreading them and telling people of what it was. Perhaps the damage mentioned was the fact that people actually began to turn their faith against the Two Fingers/Greater Will and more people were becoming skeptical of well...everything. He might've even been the first person to plant a seed of doubt within others. Maybe the Golden Order branded his words as slanderous and persecuted him so that he may no longer spread them and beliefs that directly oppose it to protect themselves. Making him into "The most reviled man in all of history" would definitely be a great way to try and discourage others from digging into it. Given that the Golden Order has made some other very questionable decisions and dislikes things outside from itself I could totally see this as possible. Unless he had done other crimes, I don't think the single act of (possibly) lying about the Caravan and causing that incident would incur that title. Judging from other things, including Kale's cut content it seems like that entire event was just...hidden away and forgotten. If I remember correctly, the only things really talking about is the armor IN the burial and the Nomad Ashes which are also deep within the Shunning Grounds. I feel as though giving him such an obscene title was really to try and start a cover up. This part is a real stretch and some SERIOUS speculation but what if the flame wasn't maddening in the first place. Maybe its aspect of despair and insanity began with Shabriri and his punishment, maybe what happened to him caused him to lose his mind, pulling the flame in that direction. That may have even been exacerbated by the burial of the Caravan. I only question this because the other merchants including Kale can wield its power...yet they seem pretty sound of mind. They still even have their eyes, which is rare among those with it. Alternatively, maybe there's something special about his people that lets them tap into it while retaining their sanity. With the Nomad Ashes and Shabriri's Howl referring to it as a disease I think it's a possibility. Maybe they innately host the Flame of Frenzy and it spreads like an infection. How that came to be or how that even happens I would have no idea, but I think it's something to think about. Thanks for reading this wall of text, and let me know what you think about it! I think the Flame is such an interesting "figure" and would love to discuss it.

@Broly there were many other characters that criticized the Golden Order, but Shabriri alone stands as the most reviled man in history. This makes it quite unlikely that his slander was against the Golden Order as a whole, at least as a singular act. Even if it led to others joining him, I don't see that in any way close to being as bad as how the Dung Eater defiles corpses to eternally curse their afterlife. This is why it makes more sense for me to believe the idea that he slandered the caravan for Golden Order to essentially destroy them. He tricked them into carrying out what they had to understand as prejudice, and I can understand why that would make everyone hate him so much.
