I think it's the same logic behind it as with Mickey Mouse gas masks for kids from WWII in US. They just want people to cheer up a bit in hard times and don't be so afraid.

@@davidmota8835 Not the same concept entirely. Sure most all products to a certain extent in today's society are preserved, but warming up a tray or adding fresh ingredients to a partially preserved recipe base is not equal to using powdered butter, dehydrated vegetables, and dried meats to make a real meal. It is easy to make a decent dinner by the standard your talking, but with these emergency/ration type ingredients- and using them as separate ingredients in an attempt to make a proper sit-down family meal? It would be interesting, my opinion.
@meacadwell
@meacadwell 5 жыл бұрын
@Boxtop I do this all the time. I have rheumatoid arthritis and find it difficult to get to the store for fresh ingredients. I use a lot of dehydrated foods because they are easy to use. I use dehydrated potato shreds so I don't have to peel and dice potatoes. Same for onions and carrots. Powdered eggs because I've dropped too many raw eggs. Dried broccoli because sometimes my hands just won't work right and I can't cut the stem. Anyway, I make a lot of meals using dehydrated foods.

I have an Aunt that is an avid baker who uses “butter powder,” myself I have only used on popcorn. I cook up a couple batches of popcorn and dump it in a paper grocery bag and I mix a tablespoon of butter powder with 1 teaspoon of pickling salt and sprinkle over the popcorn then close up the bag and give it a good shake. I also mix it with Old Bay Season equals parts and sprinkle heavily upon popcorn again in a paper bag and shake.

@KateCarew
@KateCarew 5 жыл бұрын
firegodessreiko I’m just offering a possible explanation Her persona may irritate certain types of people. Obviously she’s benign and sweet and conscientious etc but some people just don’t like it. As far as tasting videos go, not all tasting videos are miked up the same way, she uses ASMR style audio when she’s eating and it can be very loud and squelchy. Normal food videos aren’t set to the same precision as ASMR videos because they aren’t designed to be about mouth noises. Emmy has a LOT of mouth noises and that’s not for everyone either. If you come here to watch ration tastings you’re here to see the products you’re curious about how they hold and how they’re prepared and what you get is some INTENSE and extended chewing noises. Misophonia is a real thing and people with it avoid their triggers like the plague and since she doesn’t advertise herself as ASMR or emphasize the fact she’ll be exhibiting mouth sounds it could truly annoy people. I have had the misfortune of knowing people who flat out HATE happy and cheerful people. I’m a nurse and I get the rare honor of having to mingle with people I’d never encounter in my natural life and in this I’ve found all types of miserable crapheads who are so deeply unhappy they really agonize over chipper folks. Emmy is sunshine-y and lots of us out there are annoyed by little miss perfect types. I like her, I’ve watched her since she was in Japan but I do know a lot of people who have seen her and passed because they thought she was an obnoxious know it all. To each their own. I don’t get it personally, she’s perfectly fine in my book but people aren’t all alike and they have some creepy reasons sometimes too. I have read her comments many times and a few times found some really shitty ones from people who were angered that she’s Chinese ethnically but uses Japan in her channel title...I’ve read comments about her being married to a white man 😬😩 Weird sexual comments reducing her to Asian stereotypes without consideration of the fact she is American. It’s rare but it does come up. Dumbasses. I guess it’s that simple. Dumbasses and people with misophonia 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Brown bread is made with baking powder, baking soda, and molasses instead of sugar. You also use corn meal and rye flour as well as all purpose flour. And it's steamed not baked. It's really a type of survival bread. The settlers here in New England used what they had on hand. And it would have been easier to keep a fire hot enough for a steam bath as opposed to keeping an oven the constant temp needed to bake bread. Lightly fry it, to warm it up and serve with baked beans. Still a traditional Saturday night supper here in Maine.

We had a Japanese bakery in our town when I was growing up (Sunmerry, I believe it is a chain) and they made these little soft, mildly sweet coffee flavored rolls that my mother used to get all the time. I thought they were really odd at first because it doesn't seem like a flavor that should be in bread but I got used to them and they were actually pretty good with a little butter spread on them. I miss that bakery so much, they always had the most amazingly soft and delicious sliced breads for sandwiches, and breakfast pastries like raisin sticks and melon pan and chocolate coronet... their pre-made tuna sandwiches were so good too. They used to put apple in the tuna, which also sounded odd at first but is so highly delicious I do it myself now when I make tuna salad.

I knew Emmy would be unimpressed by that butter powder. I used it for a time but swapped it out for another brand. It works great for baking, not so much as a spreadable butter. I did find mixing it with water, then adding some oil, helped quite a bit to make if more like "butter". Powdered butter is great for mixing up a baking mix you keep in a canister. I used powdered eggs for that too.
