Emmy can even make the apocalypse sound fun. So the end of the world is coming just when yiu finished your dinner entree. You are on your way out the door so you might as well grab a can of cupcakes on the way out. Love the thoughtfulness to have a cut proof can ! If only the same people could have prevented the apocalypse in the first place ! Seriously though I would ditch all the MRE style foods and just load up my backpack with cupcakes !
@Jhud69
@Jhud69 5 жыл бұрын
These aren't really "apocalyptic", in Japan these are called emergency foods in case of an earthquake or a tsunami. Every house MUST have a bag with necessities in case of an emergency like this and it includes shelf stable food. They have to be fun for the same purpose why soldiers in MREs get candy - to boost morale even in a depressing situation, plus candy is great as an emergency food in general because it has sugars and other carbohydrates.

I dont believe there is a suction holding it in on the other side. It just seems like the top is sticky and that the circumference of the cupcake is slightly too large. Emily Peck They are welcoming you. You aren’t supposed to say anything. There is a channel of a man who’s lived in Japan for 20 years. (From Australia) He teaches people about all kinds of things like that. It’s called TheJapanChannelDcom He shows video of people welcoming those who walk in stores and they all ignore them.
@revinaque1342
@revinaque1342 5 жыл бұрын
@@that.neurodivergent Emmy says "Itadakimasu," which is what Japanese people say before eating. Kind of how Christians say grace before a meal. It's an expression of thanks, and an acknowledgment of the effort that went into preparing the food. Generally, it's just said out of habit and to be polite. When you walk into a Japanese restaurant/store, the people working there will say, "Irasshaimase!" which means something like, "Welcome in!" It's a polite way to greet the customer, to let you know that they see you and they're ready to serve. You don't have to say anything in return, though of course a smile is always nice 🙂

@@that.neurodivergent what Emmy is saying is "itadakimasu", which is the Japanese version of "bon appetit" basically, and literally means something along the lines of "I humbly receive this meal". B&M Brown bread was such a treat growing up, we had it very rarely. I liked the plain, not the raisin style. We would cut both ends, then leave one end of the lid in to use to push the bread through and cut off slices as it came out. Then we toasted them and served with butter. It was so good because you got the crispy caramelized edges from toasting, with the creamy salty butter, and then that rich molasses flavor. Yup, I may need to go find some. It's been decades. I have recipes for steamed brown bread pinned, but it just can't be the same as stuff cooked in a sealed can!

The company could pour the batter into the can seal it and then bake it, which would kill any airborne bacteria. But, I think those might have been baked first then placed. The pull-top lid is rolled on the edge, which means the opening was wider when it was put in and then sealed.

When I worked for Hickory Farms in the 1970s, we sold small cakes in a can. They were included in some of the gift packs, or you could buy them individually in the store. We used to offer samples when we had groups in for a tour once a week. They were always a big hit, because they really were tasty. They tasted like an ordinary chiffon cake and came in several flavors. I've looked for something similar in recent years for my earthquake kit and can't find one. Maybe I have to order them from Japan. You really have a gift for describing what you're eating. That's not easy, but you do it so well that I can judge whether or not it's something I'd like.

In the 60's we made party snacks from that canned brown bread you mentioned. It was pretty good--moist, actually. We cut round slices and spread cream cheese between pairs of slices, like little sandwiches. Each little sandwich was cut in quarters and arranged on a plate with toothpicks to pick up the quarter circles.

I've used to have the B&M brand of Brown Bread every Thanksgiving and Christmas, my family would buy the cans that were left over from the holidays and put it into our Hurricane supplies. They're very sweet breads which offset the savory holiday dishes.
