When this starts i immediately thought of Meredith Burgess. And then at the end H G Wells. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Not trying to be that guy but his name is Burgess Meredith. Yeah it reminds me too, "But I had Time now"..

Mark Nelson has SO MANY narrations on Daily Short Stories - Science Fiction. One of my favorite narrators!

I very much liked this. Noir-esque sorta film scriptish. It's about people and loneliness--wrapped in a sci-fi foil. Entertaining with a very good ending.

I'm really enjoying these classic sci-fi writings and read by a real person adding something to each character, well, that'll beat the tedium of the largely AI generated and "read" trash clogging the platform. Many thanks, likes, shares, subscription, and as early a listen as I can manage.

The ai voices will improve and surpass human narrators and this will be a thing of the past. A lost art. Though maybe I'm wrong. Humans have valued good story tellers in every culture all throughout time. A great storyteller is just awesomeness. Nothing like it.

Great story. Jim Wilson was played by Ernest Borgnine in my head. A bit more adult themed than some of these old tales.

The fantastic narrator raises the quality by reading alone, but he only has little to work with. The story is nothing special, given the plethora of stories that start with empty cities. However, in its defense, it is from the 1950s. Except for the main character, the other characters are cliches, especially the two women. The ending is a straightforward ripoff from War of the Worlds. This might have worked had the writer tried to engage with the story or do something with the people involved, but as it is, the story doesn't stand out in any way. There is noticeably a lack of tension, which makes it a meh tale.

The way the women are written, cringe 😖 and the way the men interact with them, double cringe. But appreciate the free uploads. There are gems among them

Depends what you like.... Once your 30 minutes in it's like gambling, once you lose 100.00 you have to decide try to make it back or cut your losses.. in the end it's like me telling you if I like liver or not....an opinion.
