I am still trying to get out there in pa …did pine grove furnace but too cold and all I find is needy people…ran into homeless Herman and a guy leaving trail Jason after 4 day stranded …no internet was hard on hikers ….I really want wilderness so went home after a week …to try northern state day port Clinton…anyone needing zeros or help in pa …I’m still trying to get the state done…..praying for Sadie hoping 🙏🏼😇your super keeping us updated….my summer on trail is still mostly dreams but you keep me encourage

Thanks for the updates! My husband, Shoes, did about 800 miles in ‘21 and 800 in ‘23 and is currently finishing his last section. He’s hoping to enjoy some Fresh Ground while he’s out this time! Hope they cross paths. He’s been SOBO from NY and will be in Duncannon later this week. He’s crossing paths with a lot of the first hikers that set out going NOBO. He has just about 300 miles left to complete the trail.

Thanks for all of your great info! Must’ve just missed you this weekend! My husband and I just finished a 92 mile section (Reeds Gap to James River Footbridge and then Pinefield Gap to Rockfish Gap in the Shennies). We ran into Stick on Cole Mtn and then were at Blackrock Hut with him again later in the week. My husband and I are now contiguous from Springer to Big Meadows Campground in SNP. 🎉 Hoping to get to Harper’s Ferry by the end of this year. And one more connection….App State grads here….although a little older than you! 💛🖤💛

Thank you for stopping the graffiti. We have the Boy Scouts come in and sand off the shelters in the Rollercoaster all the time. As for writing on the privy walls... In the section I maintain every month I paint over graffiti in the privies. All writing on shelters or privies does it make more work for trail maintainers who have to remove it every month. (PS - I met the caretaker at Blackburn Trail Center and was pleased to hear him say "The AT is where his soul is."

Originally he was supposed to do the trail with his daughter who is also autistic but decided it wasn’t her thing. I know how someone hikes with a broken bone in their foot - determination. I hiked about 300 miles of the 500 miles of Camino Frances with a broken ankle. I thought it was twisted.

Went to the visitor center today to register for a two week section hike. They said that they have never given out passes for section hikers(we know that’s not true) and would not give us one. They have also stopped weighing packs and doing the bear hang tutorial. They said that the ATC does not want them giving tags to section hikers. Just updating here. Oh well. Looking forward to our two week adventure

Ramdino, looking for a hiking buddy in north Ga and beyond. I'm early 60's and my wife lets me out of the house every now and then and I like to take advantage. I am interested in day hikes and 1-5 day backpacking trips. I was lucky last fall and I was able to do the 70+ miles of AT hike in the Smokies. Planning a future thru hike of AT but for now just what to hike when I can and getting of the age that I prefer someone to go with me to be safe. +++ let me know if interested -regards, Exodus

All thru hikers are section hikers until they finish, and 75% don't. Seems silly to make a distinction based on your willingness to brag about incomplete accomplishments.

What seems silly to me is to start off with a negative mindset. That way you're pretty much defeated from the get-go. Much more sensible to start off with a positive attitude, A positive attitude about what you hope to accomplish is not bragging; it's simply stating what your goal is. With a negative mindset such as you describe, the failure rate would probably be much higher.

ATC just renamed Brumleytown as the highest point on the Appalachian trail. Not due to elevation but more the copious amounts off grass circling around in his pin head for thinking anyone gives a f about his terms and definitions.
