When it gets below 20 degrees F, I have had a filter freeze up from using cold running water from a creek. Once the water stopped flowing, it froze up in the filter. Aqua Mira is the only way to go in the winter.

Beautiful vista there in the opening. BeFree is the only thing I've ever used. I love it. But I did have one freeze once, and they ain't cheap to replace.

When it’s cold out I use aqua Mira , such a pain to worry about filters freezing.

Lightheart gear makes a pullover very similar to the melly and they are easy to aquire.

Platypus makes a much better filter than sawyer and comes with threading on both sides and will work with your current filter bag.

Aquamira if highs remain below freezing because there's only one place on your body that will guarantee a filter won't freeze - "are you happy to see me, or..." ;

My Garmin Mini came off the D ring while I was hiking one day. I got back to the car and was sick over it. I got it back, but it sucked. I bought a D ring that has a locking mechanism.

Best to use what you like. The weight comes second when it’s freezing outside. Glad I had that extra quilt that is for sure.

I tried the Injinji wool socks - very comfy but the durability was terrible! Had holes after a couple of uses. Went back to my lightweight Injinjis. Hopefully you’ll have better luck 😊🥾. Also, when it’s cold I put all electronics & water filter in a down booty in my sleeping bag.

I can second that that wool Injinji isn't as good as lightweight liners. Two pairs got holes on heels after few wears.

Your pack does not provide enough insulation to keep a Sawyer (or any fiber filter like the BeeFree) from freezing. You have to keep in in a pants pocket while you’re on the move.

No matter what water filter you use, when it freezes the water expands when it turns to ice and causes the filter to fail. Keep it close to your body and sleep with it at night in your clothing.
