Great shot of the Orion constellation, my favorite one. It sets earlier each night, so catch it while you can. And don't stress out about what you think you "should" do on your hike. Enjoy it how you want. I'm not much for crowds either. But if you fall in with someone, just ask questions to start. A good icebreaker. Cool fact about Orion (the hunter)--the shoulder star on the upper left, Betelgeuse, is so huge that over a billion of our suns could fit inside it. Looking forward to your next post!

I'm an introvert too! I prefer journaling, solo hiking but I'm trying this year too...to be around other people 👍🏻 I am enjoying following your journey. The chicken salad is good, huh. It's one of my favs. Don't forget your privy breaks, as my grandad would always say on trail. 🌺

Hey Buddy. Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I live in Granville Ohio and hike all the time. Been watching your channel for some time now. I think I connected to your thinking when you said that you are an introvert. I am too. I hike a ton by myself and am section hiking the AT. Keep posting. Maybe you can do a meetup with my hiking friends. I know what you mean about the wind being wicked. Last year hike a third of the Laurel Highlands trail. The wind rocked my hammock and tarp all night. Keeps you up at night. Keep posting. Don't give up, you got this.

I consider myself on the introverted side as well but over the years I've found it's less about not wanting to be around people and more about being picky about the people I'm around. Quality over quantity.

I spent a night there in a hammock behind the Blue Mountain shelter. Winds gusting at least 60mph and temps almost freezing with heavy rain. Only scary night on the AT. My brother and I were soaking wet and cold. Took me a good hour in my down quilt to stop shaking from the cold. Good times. Love that memory of overcoming the elements. You are doing great and that short climb out of Tesnatee Gap into Hogspen killed me. I also ate lunch in the Low Gap Shelter and they have a great privy. Very cool to see familiar places. My avatar picture is of me in the Blairsville square enjoying a cigar after my section hike.

You could add a second pair of thin insoles to the Altra Lone Peaks for more cushioning. Years ago, Altra used to supply an extra pair of thin (maybe 3mm) inserts to its Torin shoes, which I would use in my Lone Peaks to make them more plush. Since I could no longer find those inserts that had the wide forefoot shape, I would take the insoles from my old pair of LPs and cut the edges off the heel portion, just like the shape of the Torin's extra inserts. Without those edges that curve up, the additional insole should sit flat below the stock insole of your LPs. Hope you can understand my explanation, ha ha.
@jimpflugrath6220
@jimpflugrath6220 5 жыл бұрын
I'll comment about Altras here. About 2 weeks ago, I got a pair of Altra Timp 1.5 which are my first Altras ever. I wore them on a 7-day backpacking trip just a day after buying them with no issues. A flyer in the box noted that different models of Altras have different degrees of cushioning. I don't know what the infatuation is on KZbin with Lone Peaks as Altra says themselves the LonePeaks are not as cushioned as some of their other trail runners. Like @JJ, I also added another insert (in my case Spenco) UNDER the Altra insert, so created my own rock plate and more cushioning. For more than 10 years now, I have simply moved my Spenco inserts into new shoes I have bought. In camp I remove all inserts to create loose camp shoes and dry out my feet and shoes.

I’m 100% with you on the lintrovertedness”. I mostly hike alone, and stealth camp. But this morning I was hiking on the AT and had 2 nice visits with other hikers. As I continued on I realized that I do that often when hiking. I wouldn’t dare speak to strangers at Walmart or somewhere, but on the trail I feel an instant bond with other hikers. Have a great hike!

My gear setup is very similar to yours. I'll be starting a flip flop from HF on April 22. Can you briefly show your Hammock setup at each stop? I'm just curious how low you pitch it, whether you keep doors open, how much heat you retain (in cold) or how ventilated it is in warm. I have the same tarp you have but tend to pitch mine low and tight. It's probably due to some irrational fear and attempt to have a little privacy. Lol. I also tend to camp just a bit away from others so they can't hear every turn or cough during the night.
