I know this is a late comment but, if you lay a piece of angle iron on the pipe it will automatically give you a straight line down the length of the pipe. enjoyed your build I have a stack of 3" that I have been trying to find used for. I going to try this and see if the bins are big enough.

If the space happens to be more vertical like in a shop or barn, the pipes could hang from pairs of stainless steel cables on each end suspended from the ceiling, possibly adding motorized retraction for space savings.

Or hinge at the top end an fold up to the ceiling with receiving 2x4s and latch mechanism for the bottom end to attach. That way you can swing it up out of the way and pull it down when you need hardware.

BTW, there is a tool specifically designed for de-burring plastic materials Called a “reamer”, they sell it at Lowe’s, it is yellow and about $7-$8. My husband had one before we got married and I didn’t know what it was. It comes in handy for applications such as the one in your tutorial. I also use it to strip copper wire 🤪 I love it!

There's also a product Ringo and makes guttering that's v-shaped and has end caps that could be used for this I don't know if it's more cost prohibitive or if it would the end cap surprise expensive so the wood dividers the price still be the way to go but the guttering might save you the step of having to cut the pipe just a thought appreciate you really enjoyed this God bless you and yours

if you used 3 inch pvc, you could likely get by with just cutting landscaping timbers as dividers on a normal miter saw without the weird hole saw

@@appalachiandiy2415 I wonder if they make some 3 inch schedule 80, or 3 inch drain line. either of those might be flexible enough to bend around the flat spot. maybe with some heat and coaxing. I may look into it more when I get around to my own project. neat idea man!

I enjoyed your thorough and creative video. It’s very tempting but the thought of having to clear out those bins of dust will prevent me from doing it. Have you come up with the labeling system?
@appalachiandiy2415
@appalachiandiy2415 3 жыл бұрын
You could always use a plastic sheet to drape over to prevent dust buildup. And i printed labels and taped them onto the bins
@keningilbert
@keningilbert 3 жыл бұрын
@@appalachiandiy2415 Thanks for your reply. I considered the sheet of plastic but I'm sure it would become agrivating have to hold it up every time I needed some. Plastic would most likely cause static electricity when touching my hair, and yes I considered cloth as well. Let me know if you happen upon a solution such as flip up plexiglass across a row.

Why not just glue the dividers to the pipe?

I like the idea, but essentially storage bins in a workshop have never worked for me. Fills up full of dust and what not. I have thought of using smaller PVC pipe with dividers like this in drawers for storing electronics components, as they're always a bit fiddly and hard to get out. But it's given me an idea about using square PVC cut at an angle for removable bins. Cheers.

There may be a way to hinge the 1/4 tube off cut so as to act as a lid. Hinge at the front, and this would also provide a place to write on the bin contents..

Looks great! How would you go about labeling each of the bays? I imagine it would be difficult to use a marker or sticker because of the ribbing on the pipe.
@appalachiandiy2415

A label maker would probably work best, A sharpie will work also but I plan to print and cut out the measurements for each bolt size and using clear packing tape over them.
