Ha no way. I have one step down (elear) from the headphones you want to buy. I would say 100% go for it if the opportunity happen to arise. The elear sound perfect and the clear sound even better (you can literally drive them on a phone too which it insane for headphones of that caliber). The focal elear alone destroys the airpods. The clear would shred them.

I am SO glad you mentioned more aggressive, and metal style music in this. Most reviewers use Hip Hop or Pop as a focus when it comes to reviewing headphones, which most 'Popular' headphones typically will sound great with those styles regardless with a slight change in profile. I'm a huge metal-head and I think more people should use it as a reference because it's great to measure instrument separation and low-end frequencies, just because there's sooo much going on. You can even tell that certain headphones are tuned for those specific styles, which makes it pretty difficult for me to pick a pair

Totally! These sound pretty boring for that style. Outside of that punchy low end, everything else is phenomenal. Extreme separation which some of the more punchy headphones lack. It’s always a hard balance!

I mainly listen to black metal and it's so hard to find infos about headphones that could be good for this kind of music. I'm not a sound engineer but everytime I go to a store to try headphones (with high def files) I just hate what I'm hearing. I really want to buy a very good high definition portable player and a descent headphones but I've been postponing that for the past 10 or 15 years or so because I never put a headphone on my ears and said "sound is great, I'm feeling the music". Stuck with phones and ipod classic, a Plantronics bbpro2 and mp3s...

@@REMY.C. if you are listening to extreme metal give Sony’s MX4s a try. It amazed me on how well they handled the bass. They placed it right in the middle and it sounded tight and clean. Also I remember that the instruments separation was very good. You can also adjust the sound to your liking with the EQ if they sound a bit bass heavy to you. But try to test them with some good, modern black metal productions. If you test them with old school 90s black metal where the production was not that good at that time (for black metal at least), the headphones alone won’t make wonders.

Most of the time it's like you said, too much bass, vocals not clear enough and an overall impression of ... How can I say it... Lack of sound clarity and precision, like when you're outside a nightclub and still hear the music, it's "muddy".

@@JimZarasOfficial i have sony xm3. I modified xm3 to eliminate the bass. Most people who likes bass are not actually music literate. Most are like party goers and they love this "bass" thingy. But technically speaking, thr Sony's sound is not impressive because of thr bass. The sound became muffled, and people have to tweak it to fix it like what i did. The sony is kind of good, in low notes, but when you get into mid notes to high, it gets muffled. Let's say the singer does headvoice, the way you hear it in sony is like that person's voice is still thick even if it should br thinning out. That is why the overused wrong term AUDIOPHILE has balance sounds. The audiophile expensive headsets are all balance, not like sony, boss, apple and etc

IMO Sennheiser, Audio-technica, and Sony are the best for extreme metal. Double bass never sounds muddy with those brands.

They are more like reference headphones and are meant to reproduce what the track intended so the bass is not artificially enhanced like the beats headphones or the sony xm4. I suggest you take a look at the recend video Dankpodd made about they, you can hear the difference between multiple pairs compared to the airpods max

You can do a little bit of EQ - Accessibility - audio/visual - headphone audio, some people on head-fi found them better with "strong" soft sound boost, and you can adjust for vocal range or brightness etc.

I have the HD-6XX, wired they are extremely close, with better instrument separation and overall balance on the AirPods Max side. The Senns have better soundstage width. I find the AirPods Max superior to the Drop Pandas, BTW. The XM3/XM4 SQ is not good. ANC is equivalent or better on the AP Max side. Hope that helps

You need to got into settings on iPhone and go to Accessibility > AirPods >Audio Accessibility Settings>Headphone Accommodations and enable that setting! Then try the Balanced and Brightness settings as well as moderate and Strong boost setting. Make a world of difference!

@@prajwalkrishnabhat5539 almost every recharable battery operated device drains over time weather you use them or not. I used these for 22 hours over 5 days so that was a lot of down time obviously. Point is it took till the fifth day after 2 hours before it died. Not a lot of drain if you ask me. And if you don’t recharge your devices but every five days and you have something with a longer battery life then I guess you have to hate them. But if you tell me you can leave the precious Sony headphones off the charger for a couple weeks without using or charging at all then a fib is being told. I have both and they do not last that long and they also drain even when off

I enjoyed your review however I have these headphones and I just feel their were just so many things that were brought up that could have been a bit misleading or just not brought up at all like the volume crown orientation which is configurable, the band is removable with a sim card tool. Not to mention they are many additional audio adjustments in the system settings. Another feature nobody’s really talking about is the Find My which may seem insignificant but at least worth mentioning But hey maybe those things would be discovered at a later time.

The lower and sub bass sounds insanely boosted through my headphones almost to the point of being bloated. Do you get this sensation when listening to them? EDIT: It's very strong but does seem to do a good job of not bleeding terribly into the midrange (unlike the XM4 which is awful at this).

You’re spot on in all the ways. It is in the sub frequencies where it does feel pretty good, but it’s definitely a lot more than most while not making it muddy.

@@miaace26 i can't remember the last time I used the in box earphones but yeah, the power brick and also for the 12 is the magnetic ring that can destroy your credit card. That is unless you buy the expensive shielded pouch. There is absolutely no need for the ring, its a gimmick with limited use.

In the video you compared the AirPods to wired headphones (which I also have) but I would love to have some high-end wireless headphones. Great video! I’d like to offer 3 pieces of feedback of things you might be able to add next time. 1) I’d like to have heard what the ambient noise sounded like from the ‘ears’ before testing transparency mode - it would have given a better reference point; 2) it would have been interesting to test noise cancellation with some real-world background noise as it mainly designed best for that function and not necessarily voice cancellation; and 3) the microphone recording could have come from the voice recorder app/FaceTime audio, as a voicemail recording would be a much degraded sample of the microphone capabilities. Awesome work as usual! Thanks!
