I hopes this update fixes the bug I was having with WhatsApp calls. After a call, CarPlay shut down, so I had to unplug en replug my iPhone to restart CarPlay. A small annoyance, not a big issue. So fingers crossed after I update my phone. Thanks for the video Nick!

This is probably impossible to define because trim levels on each model determine if wireless Carplay/Android Auto is enabled. I believe your order sheet or salesperson would be the right place to check.

I’m sure that with Apple Car play it will keep the settings even if it loses a connection to the phone (will likely be wireless for active connections while driving like my car has currently). Most cars are also coming with connectivity features these days, so that could also be a redundancy, but I don’t think it would be necessary as the settings should save for things like your dashboard layout for information related to the car itself.

I got a Lexion Apple Car Play/Android Auto unit a year or so ago and love it. For my 2016 Lexus, before these units became standard. Wired and wireless. 10.25 inch touchscreen. Works seemlessly.

Thank you Nick for the updates as always very informative. Apple in general is great but as long as they look down to smaller countries and don’t provide additional languages support the integration with cars will suffer. I use for example carplay but i prefer Google maps and while the app in iphone totally receives voice commands in my language (google microphone) when i connect carplay then siri takes over over-riding google mic but then english is my only option! (Btw i speak english fluently enough but the app can’t find a peculiar address name when voice command is not in your native language!)

The best new feature I found is that when you use Apple Maps, turn by turn navigation is picked up on the main cluster middle section when you select the MB navigation system

CarPlay has been able to send vision to second displays (and different size displays) since iOS 13 (2019). It's just up to car manufacturers to implement it.

the best feature they could use with the new app rules is an ob-2 app so you can have additional gauges shown as an app- such as coolant temp or boost pressure

I got to this video because I just read on Crutchfield that my old discontinued Alpine iLX-007 is capable of displaying “engine performance data” with the use of the iDatalink “Maestro ADS-MRR module” I need to get my hands on one to experiment though…has anyone else tried this?

With iOS 16 my phone always connects. It was a good 30% of the time my car would not recognize my phone (wired connection). I would have to remove the cord from the usb port itself… I was pretty disappointed about this. But it was fixed!

They do but only in selected models that have a wireless receiver Basically it’s models that have the portrait styled screen which to date are the C-Class, S-Class, EQE, EQS, new SL & new GLC. Other models have wired Apple CarPlay 👍🏼

When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

It is strange that apple carplay doesn’t work on full screen. I think it is not technical problem but just business description. MB wants to force people to use MBUX. IMO there is no chance for fixing this.

Don’t know if you’ve mentioned it in your videos before Nick. But I’ve found out my windows close when it’s raining (used a spray bottle to test the theory). I'm pretty happy with iDrive 7 on my BMW. I tried CarPlay for a few weeks and I'm undecided. I really like certain aspects, primarily the much better sound quality on Spotify and XM, but there are some very frustrating aspects. For one, there isn't full integration into the HUD. Also, why can't I pinch and zoom on the map??! That's a big one.

Ah Apple CarPlay has extremely strict rules set by Apple and will most of the only allow one touch operations (if that…the others done by voice). So they’ll be plus & minus buttons to zoom in and out. And for thing like HUD, Apple CarPlay is only designed to work on one screen currently, they’re working on integrating it with other screens in a car but this is several years away yet and will only be available likely on new cars

@@npoleary Interesting about rules. Actually, it integrates somewhat into the HUD, just not fully. It's like a tease. Some things, like navigation directions, music from library, and phone integrate, but other apps don't. Another weird thing with CarPlay and iDrive 7: the "recent call" list is totally funky.

Hey naim naim, quite a few manufacturers are only wired Apple CarPlay but I’m working on a video which will showcase wireless adapters so stay tuned! Hey Natahaaa, no really sorry not sure on that one. I’ve heard that some wireless chargers out there aren’t compatible due to iPhone’s MagSafe (they have magnets in them) whether it’s something to do with that or not. Could might be similar to Apple Watch where they only work on certain ones. Best thing I’d say is speak with your local Mercedes and they should be able to advise 🤓

I think the apple gauge cluster will be optional. Let's say you connect wirelessly to CarPlay, then you will have the optional apple gauge cluster, but when you disconnect CarPlay, the gauges turn to the factory original. It's not necessarily an always full on CarPlay, but only time will tell how it'll be. Besides if you had an android phone, that thing would make no sense.

I wonder if the sound quality is better on this update. Previously when connected to apple car play the sound quality was so bad. It would be so distorted. Hopefully it’s all fixed in this update.

Hey Parmar, sound quality is always very good on CarPlay as the Audio on Mercedes is typically transmitted through the wire. If it’s distorted, are you using the official cable?

Thanks Michael! Oh really? How odd…it should be the same as Apple CarPlay is just running off your phone. Unless it’s got interference from the car for some reason like as your driving around. GPS is always slightly different between a car reading anyway as speedometers are usually a few mph different between car manufacturers from what I’ve heard. I found there is Waze support: www.waze.com/ContactForm/form-web/en/core-web Maybe message them and see what they say 🤓 Hope that helps!

I’ve looked into your specific problem. It turns out our development team knows about it, but it’s taking longer than expected to fix, and we don’t have an exact timeline. Thanks again for your feedback. We hope this gets solved quickly. In the meantime, keep updating the app periodically, as we release updates and fixes every month. Sadly no I don’t believe so. Apple’s announcement is to manufactures to work with each other make it happen in future cars. Apple CarPlay running on the entire car will require a backup or a very stable connection of some sorts (for safety). Having the USB cable unplug or the Wi-Fi drop out wouldn’t be very good so I’d imagine that’s what they’re working on now.

Hey Nick, when are you going to an in depth on the hybrid plug in models? Mine is a GLC E, and after a year there are loads of questions. Does the brake light come on with regen braking? Does the softest regen setting charge more and thus give more distance in electric than harder settings as it is on for longer? Does the navigation system optimize the use of the electric charge on longer trips? Would be great if you can do a special video on plug in hybrids. Thanks

In answer to your question though, yes the brake light does come on if you use anything more than normal recuperation or brake regen. If you use more regen then yes it’ll charge more than just using the brake pedal. It does regen using the brake pedal but it does also use brakes too where as regenerative braking is just regen (if that makes sense) On some cars, there’s an option for electric in the city which will use the navigation and help optimise the best settings for that 🤓

I’ve noticed that my CarPlay screen is “shortened” on my GLC 2022, when comparing it to my friend’s version, which fits his entire screen. Would you happen to know why this happens and how to enable mine to use the entire screen as well?

I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before. The reason is because MBUX on Mercedes’ is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

Just as some info, I did not check the other comments, but I've just got my ordered Audi A4 with virtual cockpit and even while placing my order in late June, the dealer told me that they've confirmed that my car will get that functionality once it rolls out. So, I'd double-check that piece of info, regardless if I'll have it or not....

Hey Phil, sadly iPods were discontinued some time ago by Apple so they stopped releasing the software for it. The only way round this is either send it via Bluetooth (if it has Bluetooth) or take the songs off of the iPod or from your computer and play them using a memory stick or off your phone.

Your phone is Apple CarPlay 🤓 if you update to iOS 16 then the phone will transmit the new features to the car 👍🏼

I love Apple CarPlay and use it a lot. What I’d really like is a wireless mode and handoff which would sort out the unplugging issue if you could handoff the current screen (including entire dash) to the car.

Hey Jon, there is actually a wireless version of CarPlay. It just depends on what car you have. It works wirelessly on one of mine but unfortunately not on the other one!

hi Nick, I was in the US recently and drove a non-mercedes car that had carplay, but it allowed me to use carplay via bluetooth, and that was awesome. I did some research and added a dongle to my C238 E400 and now it too can use carplay automatically without a usb cable (like you had in this video). Why is Mercedes not doing this ? It's so much more convenient to leave your phone in your pocket and for Carplay to automagically start when you get in the car without pulling it out, connecting the cable...

Hey Niall, they are! Some models have it now 🤓 Once a car has been designed though, it has to last it’s life cycle of 6-7 years before a new one is released. This is when new tech is designed / added in. So fingers crossed it’s on the next model! 🤞🏼

Have you tried my Troubleshooting steps? kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqm4kmmobZ5mfZI If that doesn’t work, try removing the pairing from the phone and also try a reset Network Settings as that can also help too. On the phone, press Settings General Transfer or Reset Phone Reset Reset Network Settings This resets some Apple CarPlay data but just bear in mind, you will also need to connect to Wi-Fi networks again after doing this.

Since the update I am missing the option to shuffle music on my Car Play screen. I use Amazon Prime Music app and the shuffle option is completely gone on the screen.

Possibly an app update? I personally haven’t used Amazon Music for years so I’m sure it’s changed since then. Apple Music, Spotify and KZbin Music I’m sure still had them so don’t think it’s iOS. Have you got the latest app from Amazon Music? Latest update was 1 day ago v22.14.1

It depends on the specification of the car. Most cars require an Auxiliary Heater to use this and are normally only available on Plug-in Hybrids and Electric cars. Best to double check with your local Mercedes if you’re not sure 👍🏼

Is one of the features straight up killing auto connect because I upgraded to the 14 Pro and it just refuses to auto connect to my stereo anymore lol. I did everything, factory reset everything, turned the auto settings on and off, unpaired and repaired 20 times and nothing works. I just decided to start plugging it in again and stop using wireless CarPlay cuz now it’s just a hassle to reconnect it every single time

Hey Ninjya, Try Resetting your Network Settings on your phone as that also retains Apple CarPlay data too. Settings General Transfer or Reset iPhone Reset Reset Network Settings This clears all Network Settings, Wi-Fi parings etc so just bear in mind you will probably have to connect to those again (home / work etc). This fixed it on someone else's phone too 🤓
