Apple probably watched this video. They have thousands of employees, at least one person is bound to share it and it would eventually reach higher ups. They do a lot of research and probably watch thousands of videos for feedback on anything from features requests to style. If you are watching this video, imagine the people who work at Apple and spend over 40 hours a week working on what to add/remove/change to the software.

It’s a good essay-though he cites his primary sources badly; half of the sources cited are Wikipedia articles-and the video production is tasteful, but I’m concerned with how poor attribution of other people’s work and footage is. None of the B-roll appears to be his, none of photographs used for illustration, extraneous footage, et cetera, and while it does seem to be fair-use more often than not (I don’t think all of it is), it seems disrespectful to the original artists to not credit them anywhere. The photographs of Vitsoe’s headquarters are beautiful. I don’t think he took them; which is okay, they were fairly used. But I’ll have to reverse image search screenshots of them to find the originals and their artist now, when Hu could’ve done better, respected a fellow artist, and included an attribution under those frames. If he did take them, say “self-work”. I don’t mind one book about Jony Ive and a few Wikipedia articles regurgitated back to me in a pretty video, but I especially take issue with the lack of attribution to other people’s work. Doesn’t set good precedent coming from another creator.

I’ve always missed skeuomorphic icons and design because I only got the chances to see it when I was younger. Seeing Mac OS Big Sur change the mac icons again gave me a sense of nostalgia with the little shade and the little details on a small icon that were like on previous version of iOS and Mac OS X.

I can assure you that you put more time into that transition at 9:18 than they did into designing the layout for that email page, the production quality on this video was incredible and it took me a while to realize your subscriber count wasn't 7.98 million. I understand your concern about this neumorphism. I personally like the flat designs for one key reason: It was really easy to make one yourself. I'm not really sure why the perception of skeuomorphic design changed, and I still don't understand why realistic 3d renders were suddenly considered "cheap" (I know i certainly didn't find it cheap when trying to set up cinema 4d) but neumorphism seems like one step closer to going back to apples original designs. I've seen other designers speculate that we'll be flipping back and forth between realistic and flat designs for a long time.

I really enjoyed this 2 part series! Apple design history is something I’ve always been interested in. I used to spend hours drawing icons for fun in Mac OS7. The canvas was 32 pixels square and your colors were limited to 256. It teaches one a lot about doing more with less. It’s hard to explain the excitement of Mac OS X arriving with drop shadows and eye candy. We were drunk on skeuomorphism for a while. I feel that the best place is somewhere in between. Thanks again.

Wow. Never thought I would be so fascinated by design. It kind of mimics life and history honestly. When life gets too complicated and overwhelming simplicity, honesty, and order is preferred and then when life gets too boring or soulless ornamentation and extravagance is preferred. It's like a pendulum

Catching some deep feelings on this video... dude. I watch Objectified multiple times per year. It's my absolute favourite documentary. Ives at is peak definitely warranted reverence from Dieter Rams... But he DESTROYED the usability of iOS for me... stripping it of rich affordance and meaning. Before iOS 7, you could hand an iPad to anyone, of almost any age, and they could intuit how to use it. Now, 6+ years after iOS7, I'm still baffled by the abject lack of clarity and obfuscation of the UI in iOS. Great video!

Almost forget about my passion for design til KZbin suggested me your video and this just reminded why I liked Apple so much since I got to knew their products. I simply just love their design language and I wished I could’ve been part of the design team at Apple as well but it wasn’t meant to be for me. Sure there are some designs I don’t like, like the notch on the MacBooks also because the form doesn’t follow the function while it is unnecessarily huge without having the FaceID sensors included. But all in all I just love the simplicity in Apples design and the way the products are made with such a dedication to look high in quality.

Good job on the video quality! Stick with it and you'll grow a strong base of loyal fans. Side note: I don't really agree that Apple has been fine without Jobs. It personally feels that Apple went from a tech company that was pioneering PCs and creating new product segments (iPods, touchscreen phones) to one that... is courageous because they don't ship chargers? Tim Cook's a supply chain guy, not a guy who tries to come up with revolutionary products (and I don't even like Jobs that much). Maybe that's just the fate of all companies that grow beyond a particular size, but I'm not convinced.

This mini series is amazingly well made! I'm very happy this was pushed to me by the algorithm. Keep making more like this and I'm sure you will gain a much bigger following. Also, even though Apple has been the trend setter it would be really interesting if you would expand the view and explain more broad global visual design trends. The ending with shaded icons and AR feels like such a tease for Part 3: Looking into the crystal ball.

I think the camera module of the iPhone 12 Pro is one of the best designs ever created. It seems so weird and wrong to order little circles in a triangle shape surrounded by a square with different depths and they did it anyway knowing that this is exactly the right thing. At the first glance it sounds like a design Apple would never implement, because it’s not that clean, oversimplified and minimalistic but the designers have so much more in mind. They have the vision that people will love it and I admire that talent so much. When I saw the leaks back then I would never believe that I will love the camera design, but the designers knew I would.
