It's possible. It depends on how you use your computer - obviously it affects Mission Control, and if you setup custom Desktops you'll need to swipe with 4 fingers instead of 3 to switch back and forth between them.

I have come to terms with the having both a mouse on the right hand for precision pointing/clicking and a trackpad for the left for more loose navigation, I kinda have to lift my hand at times from the keyboard but it’s fine to be honest, it becomes second nature… I can’t bare scrolling anymore even webpages with a scroll wheel (yeah, a scroll wheel, I can’t with the Magic Mouse ergonomics). If no mouse is available then I do enable the three point mouse drag. Great video.

@matthewTobrien3 жыл бұрын
And I've never used dragging with drag lock - I need to check it out just so I know what it is. I think, overall, three finger dragging requires the fewest steps/actions to do a slightly complicated action of dragging and dropping. It feels like one action with free finger drag instead of 2-3.
@AndrewOrtwein3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewTobrien "With drag lock" is nearly the same thing. Instead of dragging with three fingers, you can double-tap-and-hold with one finger. I'm guessing it will come down to a personal preference. I'm currently giving your suggestion a go to see if it feels better. Yeah, that's that last gesture on the list for FCP trackpad gestures. haha, dragging out that stupid mouse! You nailed that feeling. Thumbs up for Kill bill reference - Kill PR Pro. Premiere Pro is dead, it just doesn't know it. I love the trackpad, and all it's functions, but can't use it for too long, my wrist hates it. Literally a pain in the wrist. Any suggestions for that?
@matthewTobrien3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear it causes you discomfort! Part of why I started using it more was because it never hurt after long edit sessions. The only thing I could think of to try is some kind of pad for your wrist to rest on - those can be a little awkward sometimes. "Premiere Pro is a fine application..." 😈

The three finger gestures also works on the iPad pros. Yes, a touchscreen.

Yes! Three-finger drag is Unique to mac, and a super great workaround, but I've switched back to 'drag lock with inertia' as I've found that toggle highly conflicting, as three-finger also functions as 'Mission control' and what I've noticed is 'desktop view' & 'launchpad' gesture is also slightly not the same with that setting toggled on. also the zoom accessibility would be disturbed. And, the trackpad isn't big, yes, you run out of space, but a mouse comparatively has way more space to move, for draging. (understand that 4 finger setting for Mission control exists, and depending upon a workaround, dragging is much more done, than those other gestures) Not being edgy or arguing just some stuff I wanted to mention for people looking for 'but what if' moments (as i was looking for when i first started using a mac)
@matthewTobrien2 жыл бұрын
Yup, I've had to re-learn accessing Mission Control with a four-finger swipe as well. Which was no big deal, especially since I don't use it too often. And I find the trackpad doesn't run out of space because when dragging you can lift your finger(s) to drag for long distances where with the mouse lifting it repeatedly to do longer drags is a pain. If you try to do a long drag with a mouse without lifting it in place repeatedly you run out of real estate really quick if your mouse movement speeds are set similarly to mine. But plenty of users have made it work with a mouse - I'm just not a fan. If I didn't love 3 finger drag so much I'd definitely rely on drag lock with inertia.

The trackpad may be awesome, but nothing - NOTHING - beats the combination of Logitech MX Master 3 in one hand and an Elgato Stream Deck on the other! That combination gives you editing superpowers right there! :-)

But the clicking, James! The clicking!!! You're lucky it doesn't bother you. 🍀🌈🦄 So glad you're enjoying your Stream Deck!

I had "three fingers equals left mouse button" on since day one, which pretty much is the behavior you describe in your video. But i can not find this option anymore now, but even though the option you describe in your video is deactivated it just behaves like this. However, when i once activate and deactivate the option you described, then the "three fingers equals left mouse button" is no longer active and i can not activate it again. So be careful if you was satisfied with how it behave before, because you can't get it back again, at least with Monterey current version.
@matthewTobrien3 жыл бұрын
You can use A Better Touch Tool to set up "three fingers equals left mouse button", I believe. Of course it's a paid app, but at least there's an option for restoring that feature. Maybe check the Accessibility < Pointer Control < Trackpad Options to see if there's a way to get it back?
@helmutnn3 жыл бұрын
Its ok with the new setting, maybe they just renamed it. Even marking text works the way it did before with three fingers on the touchpad, feels like pressed left mouse button :).

Love it, so fun. nothing wrong with a little shade at Premiere Pro. Just waiting for 27 or bigger M1 iMac's and maybe I'll bundle a trackpad with it.
@matthewTobrien3 жыл бұрын
Yessssss. You gotta give at least give it a try and really really try to use the gestures to overcome the initial awkwardness. Can't wait for the new 27" iMacs. I'm guess this Spring/Early Summer and then M1 Pro/Max Mac Pro in the late Fall. I can't wait to get one!

ha! nice one ... you seem to like KillBill ?! 😉 yeah so I activated this three finger drag thing but it takes a bit getting used to it ...I guess ... also yeah I'm one of those mission control swipe users so 4 fingers for that now ... anyways, thanks for this enjoyable and informative video ... I'm using magic trackpad for a while now but also have a MX Master 3 ... switching between both ...oh and also, Premiere Pro is a fine application, huh?! 😅

Love me some Kill Bill. I got to see the print Quentin screened at Cannes at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles when I used to live there a lifetime ago. It was amazing! Hope three finger drag makes you love the Trackpad a bit more - it really took it to the next level for me. And I got used to 4 finger swipe up for Mission Control pretty quick. A mouse is critical for a lot of power users, and I don't blame anyone for using them. I tried because I wanted to program those extra buttons but the clicking was keeping me out of the creative flow. I wish I could use one!

Just noticed you changed from Midland Pictures to your name - what made you make that decision?
@matthewTobrien3 жыл бұрын
I just felt like using my name would create a more personal connection and perhaps make it easier for channel shoppers to commit to subscribing. Originally I hoped the channel was going to showcase a lot more short docs and films so naming it like it was a movie studio was more fitting than my name. But it’s been much more like a traditional filmmaking KZbinr channel and renaming it to my name felt like the right move. 🤷🏻♂️

@@matthewTobrien thanks for the explanation if though you didn’t need to. I was thinking of rebranding a studio/different business name / but might just keep my own name for now.
