I really appreciate that we're getting more stories about the husband being pushed to his limit by his abusive wife, we've gotten too much of the other way around and I think this is better. It's great that these people recognize that men can also be victims in abusive relationships, that wives can abuse their husbands and that not very guy is the aggressor
@shawnycoffman Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I'm a retired paramedic and I have seen many cases of spousal abuse where the woman was the aggressor. It occurs more often than people think. Men are afraid to say anything because of the ridicule they will get. I've watched police officers and firefighters on scenes mock an injured man and say idiotic things like "she just thought you liked it rough" then call him a wimp within earshot. I'm not afraid to say that I got a bit unprofessional on scenes like that. 🤬

@@shawnycoffman Yup. I do intakes for rehab centers for domestic abuse victims and such and a LOT of men call in trying to escape from their situations, but the laws are just not on their side generally. 18 years ago my wife had surgery and I had absolutely no issues driving 2 hours in horrible rush hour traffic to bring her her favorite teddy bear plus a few extra DVD movies. The internet did exist at the time but most businesses and hospitals did not have it, and streaming was not really available, so everything was still on physical media. A lot of companies didn't even have online bill pay yet. I made another trip later on a Saturday just to bring her ice cream.

My father had a medical crisis in December 1999. He spent 36 days in the Critical Care Unit (more intensive than the ICU), then he had to spend 8 weeks relearning how to breathe on his own, then months more relearing how to walk. My sister lived out of state at the time, so my mother went down to see him every single day after work, and I went most of the time with her, until I could see how much it was exhausting her, so I TOLD her she was only going to go half the time, and I would go the other half, even though I didn't drive at the time, and for me that meant a one hour bus ride with three transfers just to get to the nearer of the two hospitals he ended up staying at, and two hours one-way for the recovery hospital for his respiratory retraining...and we were only allowed to visit for about half an hour or so, most days. It was not a waste of time or effort, though. We did it because we loved him and wanted to support him with our presence and our palpable, tangible displays of caring as he struggled to recover. And we'd do it all over again if we could. He passed away a couple of years ago...but that was only after living 21 more years, despite the best experts at the time predicting he would only live another 10 years past his crisis. Dad credited our constant visits as part of the success of his recovery, because he knew he was loved & cared for. Your wife absolutely treasured your visits. Almost nobody likes rush hour traffic, so being willing to to endure it just to go see her was proof of your love and caring, too. And nobody likes being stuck in a hospital bed, so bringing her comfort items and entertainment sources was especially sweet. I hope you're still happily married!

Not how alimony works. It’s never a punishment. Child support is paid to the custodial parent regardless of any other reason. It’s paid for the benefit of the child/children not the parent, and it’s based on the income of the non-custodial parent.

Wow. Angela sounds way too much like my Sister-in-Law. When my brother got sick due to stress and didn't do so well with his education, she was only upset because he was ruining her future. She wasn't the least bit concerned about his health, only that his failure to get his education was affecting her future. After all, her ideal goal in life is to do noting she doesn't want, just slack off, while reaping the benefits of him working hard all day. When they wer emoving to a new apartment, she didn't even help cleaning their old one, me and our mom had to help because conveniently, she had to visit her parents all the time it took us to clean it, only coming back a few days before the big move. I have zero idea why my brother can't see who is really is.
