The problem is the prices and user expandability, software, hardware and new product categories have all gotten worse. The machines are so highly maximized for cost efficiency to maximize profit. None of the manufacturing cost savings translated to consumers, they have literally doubled in price.. compare 2000-2010 software and hardware innovation to 2010-2022... It's pretty sparse with a huge amount of hardware design failures... butterfly keyboards, overheating and underpowered machines... Apple TV remote anyone?

They have range of products thats either little over $500 or below. If you dont have at least $500 to spend on tech your just broke. And nooo you cant say the Pro devices are expensive because they ARE SUPPOSED to be.

Future revenue is around services based upon their devices. There devices last a very long time, so if they lose adopters it’s not an issue if they keep the install base in older devices. Hard to justify upgrades but every 3-4 years and even more with the M cpu in laptops/ macs.

Thought provoking! Thank you. Why do I think Apple has lost direction? They are back to presenting a plethora of versions of their iPhones, laptops, studios, and unified chip designs. Why? With so many product versions piling on top of each other, I can see buyers remorse becoming a big problem. Why market the M2 chip before giving the M1 time to get purchased in high numbers? Why are there so many M1 chip options? I can understand the M1, M1max, and M1ultra (different customer bases). But why so many versions of M1 GPU and CPU? Is it a poor attempt to hide very poor quality control in the M1 chip manufacturing process (gotta get some income from these "bad" chips!)? Why are prices so high? Has Apple shifted its mission from customer first to profit first? I've learned a great deal from you! Please continue!!

This makes no sense when you try to compare it to the world of PC building which is filled with thousands of configurations. And honestly, if you know what you need, the options give you freedom to choose the closest things to your needs. And why blame multiple chip types on lack of quality control? Apple has always had great quality control and i haven’t seen any red flags for their own silicon in this area. Each of these chips do have different performance and impact depending on what chasis you pick.
@codexous

I don’t mean to come off as attacking your viewpoint, but i don’t think you can attribute multiple chip variations and configurations as “negligence” People would be very frustrated in fact if they only gave you just a few. I can already imagine people saying “classic apple assuming the needs of the consumer”

Yes, my wish there will be no more dumb apple fans like they're all literally dumb knowing nothing about technology but very basic people. Nio by Lenovo When will (dumb) apple produce a car? Never !!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sony, LG and Lenovo (Nio) are way way ahead ;) LG-Hyundai Indonesia the biggest in Asia Pacific. LG made world's first LED panel early 2000's then followed by Sony. Then Bang Olufsen premium audio driver built-in LG smartphones. And so on. Lenovo literally means New Legend since 1984 owner of the original oldest computer manufacturer IBM and Motorola.

The hardware has been really good but they seem to be losing their way on the software front; Stage Manager, WatchOS updates borking fast charging for a while, resolution issues with MacBooks on Ventura using adaptors to connect to external displays (despite it being flagged in the beta) Part of me thinks this sloppiness on the software front is because Cook is a supply chain guy as opposed to a UX guy like Jobs was. It could also be doing a whole new OS every 12 months is too much. I’d gladly take a new MacOS every two years over an annual release with bugs

Apple is really good at releasing products right at the edge of another products life cycle. The moment the iPod became stale, they released the iPhone. When their Mac lineup was struggeling they introduced the M-processors. Maybe by introducing M-processors to iPads we'll see another transistion here. We do now see that "getting boring" with the iPhone and there's the rumored AR/VR glasses. Shifting to services Apple has enough revenue to keep going until it's really necessary to release a new product that takes over from another one. That said, no, Apple is not doomed.

And consider the coordination of anti apple media by the huge non apple universe. When the iPad first arrived, I read countless article headlines that all said- “But there is no software for it! And it does nothing…! So don’t bother looking at it.” The avalanche of anti IPad “tech reviews” revealed the market tested language- by competitors.

I remember before getting my AirPods Pro the stress of always having my dongle for headphones. It just seems idiotic not having continuity between products for charging and now doing the changeover because the EU forced them to behave like a petulant child whining. It is a perfect example where greed beat out a customer centric focus for their products. Not a good look for Apple. The range of products in some categories seems overkill, like the iPhone lineup, why have the 12 and 13 still? Why not have 120htz display on the 14 models already considering how far behind they are to Android in that category? Even simple things like not having a backlit keyboard on the Magic Keyboard or no ergonomic mouse that supports all the gesture movements. One of the most annoying things moving from Android phone to Apple was not having timestamps on the text messages(in view without having to slide left), context is everything when texting and considering how challenging it is to get that right via text it would seem like having that feature as a toggle on/off option would make sense. Three years after moving from Android this still annoys me daily. It feels to me like there are just these massive gaping holes in their common sense around certain topics. I look past these kind of issues because they still do things a lot better than their competition in many ways. It does not mean it isn't obnoxiously annoying though...

I don't get the doomsayers when it has a 2 trillion capitalization, but here's a contrarian point of view: iPod wiped the floor with mp3 players, made people listen to worse quality audio; iPhone wiped the floor with smartphones, forced us to curse daily at having to type on a screen and get wrongly autocorrected; Macs have not wiped the floor with PCs but are longer term investments that mostly just chug along, while the alternatives are still dismal in terms of basic reliability and security.

Downward trend...? Look at the sale numbers of their MacBook lineup since the introduction of M1, it also raked in 44% of global smartphone sale profits in 2021, this despite having smaller units sales compared to other companies. Your take seems... premature.

Idk, I think as long as smartphones remain in their current form Apple won’t die. It’s more popular now I hear. It’s if there is a significant change to computing tech, that’s where apple would die and it will be a slow death because of how much apple pushes there customers into there eco system, i cloud and apple services. People won’t just want to give up all that data and subscriptions so it would take years.

I love my MacBook Pro. Not too stylish, but it packs a lot of satisfaction. It's the most superior home PC on the market. Pricy yes, but it's wonderful to use, as compared to the competition. The ONLY negative is that it won't sync with my Samsung phone! Seriously. I had an Iphone and found it way TOO lame and limited. Non techie users love them because they are fairly easy to use. I get it. But it doesn't satisfy the more technical users on this planet who desire really advanced features and options, like the premium Samsung models, which come out with distinctive new features and designs every 2 years. More importantly, I can't stomach the Iphone's antique design. New models consistently look like they were built 20 years ago and I personally need a phone that SCREAMS "leading edge" modern with advanced features. The last TV ad for Iphone shows a guy asking a girl, "Is that the new Iphone?" Well, ...That IS a VERY reasonable question because it sure looks like an old Iphone. Why on earth would Apple produce such a TV ad that implies that it's hard to tell it's a new model? Probably because it's absolutely true! Apple needs to innovate and come out with a NEW phone with an advanced, distinctive style so when you use it in public, there is NO QUESTION that it's a brand new top of the line model! It needs to make a statement "I'm leading edge!!" And, they need to pack it with features and options similar to Samsung's high end phones. They really need to ditch IOS and use a modified MAC OS so that the phone is feature rich and has capabilities similar to the MacBook itself. It's got enough power to be a small Mac. Use it! They could call it the IMAC Phone. If they did that, I'd buy one!! Absolutely. Such a phone would open up a whole new market for them, thus satisfying the more technical savvy people of the world, who, like me, are currently buying Samsung high end phones and frustrated that they can't sync with the MacBook! Where is the CEO's current vision? He's obviously not focused on innovation and does Apple really have any leading edge designers? Probably not. He's allowed the Apple line of products over the years to remain stale looking with little to no innovative features, which are added to other phones year after year. There lies the problem. Apple needs to grow and expand their customer base around the world. They are well positioned to do so, but they seem to lack proper vision and focus for a new product line. You can only use the same old product design for so many years before people ditch it and go with something that looks like it actually came from this century.

There has been a stall, but the reason is different than what you said. Right now, Apple is stuck, but that's because they are in a pause waiting for their ray tracing hardware to be finished. The M1 had really bad graphics compared to NVIDIA, which Apple thought would be similar. To fix this, Apple did something truly unique, they sought outside help and joined the Blender Consortium. In addition, they sent engineers. Let that sink in, they sent engineers. Apple never does that. Unfortunately, it's taking longer than Apple anticipated, so what did Apple do? First, they put the 3nm line on hold, they don't want to waste this new tech until they are ready. It's costing them a bunch to keep other people off this line (no, the delay is not TSMC's fault). Then, they took the new M2 compute unit with the old M1 graphics and made something that developers could use to write code for Metal 3, which needs some minimum hardware set to work correctly. Here's a summary: M2 = (M2 Compute + M1 Graphics ) x 5nm Improved M3 = (M2 Compute + M2 Ray Tracing) x 3nm So, what are they doing? Apple wants to grow, but they already have most of the profit from cell phones. Where is the next big pile games of money that games Apple can grab games which needs better graphics?

I think they are also waiting for their own modem chip and affordable uLED's. So far none of these things have matured on a scale and could still be years off. The pandemic altered the upgrade cycle and moved us a full two cycles up from where we would have been. So, people mostly have new cars, new computers, new houses, work from home and high inflation. It could be years before we return to the regular technology cycles. When the pandemic started, I upgraded everything and ma good for the next 7 to 10 years. That will place me close to retirement. When I retire, I May get one more upgrade but then nothing. That will be the end of the cycle unless we get an exponential change in capabilities.

I honestly think you made great points in the video. People just like to complain. This wasn't clickbait, just your opinion and you open the floor others opinions. Really Tim Cook it just ridding on the way of what jobs and his teams accomplished. I think over the last few years that has been fine as far as hardware goes. I do think apple can improve more in the software department, when it comes to its pones, computer and iPads. but for the average consumer who doesn't use the products to its full potential it really doesn't matter. Apple knows this and bets on the same billion people to buy new apple products rather than trying to get people to jump ship. Now that being said once apple nails down the M chips and just their silicon line in general, I do think the future of apple will be a little more innovative. right now id say apple is ridding the wave they have but knowing how the company has operated since jobs and after Jobs, we will see some new innovations in the next few years. With the new innovation apple will also become more greedy, remember they are a business. They don't care about your feelings but your money. -Sincerely my opinion ( its okay if you don't agree, Just don't shit your pants people)

Apple has gained market share in smartphone sales in the USA. They have more than 50 percent. The MacBook line got much much better after they ditched intel and used apple silicon (although Intel is coming back with meteor lake and upcoming lakes). iPad Pro with promotion and m1/m2 silicon and thunderbolt are great. But the iPad lineup is confusing. Air? Pro? Basic? Mini? Where apple sorely needs to improve is software quality. Monterey macOS 12 had several bugs during pre 12.5 cycle. Hard kernel panics when thunderbolt 4 docks were attached and the laptop was resumed from sleep. All sorts of other teething issues such as firmware updates (which happen with the os update) bricked some laptops. There were also several zero day security vulnerabilities with the kernel and buffer overflows. Unacceptable. Also, stage manager on iPad Pro is confusing and weird and buggy. It’s a step in the right direction. apple creates good hardware. But the software needs some additional polish.

Steve Jobs once said to Bernard Arnault, “You know, Bernard, I don't know if in 50 years my iPhone will still be a success, but I can tell you, I'm sure everybody will still drink your Dom Pérignon.” Even he knew that the hype for Apple won’t last forever as technology gets outdated so fast. In this hugely competitive world, no one company can be the King forever. Apple won’t die, that’s for sure, but others are playing catch up and you can only innovate so much.
@winterwolfryan

Apple does seem to be going down a strange path these days, but as others have pointed out, there is still some amazing innovation. The Apple Silicon chips in their macs are a feat of engineering, as are their Macs to some degree. I think they need to come up with some bold form factors again, and also bring back favourites like the 27” iMac. Their iPhone line is good, I am sad they killed the mini, as that was a really powerful little phone - in fact, I would have liked to have seen a pro version of it. Their iPad line is very problematic right now. The new base model is purposefully gimped, with poor design choices across the board. The iPad Air simply does not need to exist. The iPad Pro line should have the same tech - mini led - on all models. Then there is the software…what the hell is it? It’s like it’s confused. I think it needs a full OS rewrite on the pro models, something new and fresh with the capabilities of a Mac but geared towards touch. The base iPad software should remain the same, perhaps become even more streamlined. They also need to work on their home grown apps and software…let’s see some new programs, Apple, and also fix the ones you have..too many bugs in some software. I’d like to see them really push the interaction between an iPad and a Mac further - many use cases there that oddly haven’t been implemented.

yes, Apple change. but so does every other tech brand. everyone learns, trying to figure out and try to tackle Apple future moves by 'innovating' bunch of things. and those who don't, end up burried by Apple, like nokia and blackberry. therefore, we as an end user also 'upgrading' our standards. our standards keeps getting higher, we expect and demand the tech to be lightyears ahead and available as soon as tomorrow. and the general consensus are often fueled by the toxic fumes of the fanboys screaming this and that about the rival brands.

Thanks for your thoughtful commentary. I seem to recall people saying the same thing about Microsoft, but they don't appear to have died either. Apple clearly has made some missteps over the years, like the disastrous butterfly keyboard and the excessive push toward thin and light at the expense of ports and thermal management. But I appreciate how they've been willing to listen to consumers and roll back when necessary (the return of more ports and better keyboards) and truly innovate (Apple silicon), even though the underlying motive is always going to be profit driven. They are a business after all.

I use them occasionally. I can't justify the price of the iPad Pro. I haven't seen enough new features on the iPad series to make it worth spending the price of a laptop (With accessories and keyboard and pen gen 2) to make it worth it.
