Apple is FINALLY Making a Folding iPhone!

Apple is working on a foldable iPhone that could be released as early as 2026, according to an exclusive report published today by The Information.
The report claims the device would feature a "clamshell" design, similar to Samsung's line of Galaxy Z Flip smartphones. Apple is said to have contacted suppliers in Asia in recent months about making components for the device.

For years, Apple teased their "new display tech" that would push two separate screens without borders together to provide a creaseless foldable, but I figured that would ungodly expensive to produce compared to flexible screen foldables. I'm bummed out we never got to see a roller model in mass production as those look incredible and have no creases.

with all the time I’ve been spending with apple, there would’nt be the term of perfect device launched by apple, only “the best product ever created” that said, if it’s gonna be the first flip product they’ll make 😅 it will probably come with its own compromises, such as: - mediocre battery life - so so cameras - sky rocketed price tag

I switched from 14pro max to zflip6. Reasons: portability, functionality, my gadgets like Garmin is more compatible with Android than iOS, and I love the customization too.

Sorry to point you guys out, it's funny reading all these apple fan boy comments as someone who has a foot in every OS. Imma come back one day to this comment and see how quick apple boys and girls(especially girls) will praise apple for the "innovation" of their flip phone. The flip phone is definitely going to big with woman,literally had dozens of girls ask about or switch to a flip. One of the main reasons for the flip, is pocketability. On the other hand, guys mainly ask me about my fold/ or switch to a fold.

@@MrUser999999 seeing little to no benefit doesn’t make people an Apple fan. I have owned dozens of smartphones of various brands over the years, and loved most of them. I see no benefit in a flip phone, period. It’s not that deep. The funnier thing is that you act condescending while sounding like a foolish adolescent yourself lol. Maybe once they figure out to get fully rid of the awful crease I’ll reconsider. But even then, would much prefer a phone that flips into a tablet rather than one that just flips in half for little to no reason.

I have two coworkers: One with a flip and another with the fold. Once I saw their inner screen, I got immediately turned off by all the fingerprints and the creasy look. It looks great at the store with max screen brightness, but in the wild? Not impressed. I looked into the used market and I keep seeing flips with a green vertical line. The tech is simply not ready.

@@Yamas258that’s actually a huge plus, especially for occasions where I am wearing clothing with smaller pockets (one of my phones slipped out of my pocket and got ran over by a metro train. The reason why was because it was too big for my pocket).

As a former Galaxy user, and a current Apple-Only fanboy, I can say without a doubt, that any Apple “flip phone” will FLOP! No one is going to want that crease no matter how “invisible” it seems. Not to mention the inherent “weak point” in the crease that is just begging to snap or break inevitably. Of course that’s just my opinion, which is worth less than a melted bowl of ice cream on the beach during the summer.

If folks want smaller, they have their watches… for example. But then, Apple struggles to sell ipads and the keep making those, so, perhaps they are using it as a way to pull the market from Android users… we shall see how this pans out. But sure, you’re not wrong about the initial sales that will occur upon launch.

Well, that’s why Apple hasn’t put one out yet. When they do, it’ll be beyond other fold phones. The only reason Apple hasn’t put one out yet is because of the crease. When they do release one, it’ll be because they’ve resolved the crease issue. And it’ll sell like crazy.

As someone who use zflip phone, the crease dont bother me at all really, at first thats also my concern before getting a zflip phone but as i used it i barely even notice it while using it and even if i notice it, its not affecting my screen time at all, my only concerns is how long it will last, so far after over a year of using it flipping many times a day it still intact no problem on the crease part of the screen whatsoever, i use zflip5 btw. But will i ever buy another flip phone? Probably not cuz i find myself flipping my phone too much to use the main screen rather than to use the front screen, im still dependent to use the main screen at all times i barely use the front screen 😅

I want a rollable iPhone that turns into a small iPad. We can call it the iPhone stretch. It’ll unroll sideways to have a screen like an iPad mini, then once you’re done with the extra screen real estate you just roll it back up until you need it again. Either that or a bendable iPhone that wraps around your wrist and doubles as a watch until you need access to the full screen, then you take it off your wrist and use it as a normal phone

I'm older and a bit of a novice with high end phones and electronics..I wear slacks and corduroys alot and like the idea of having a phone I can fold or flip and fit comfortably in my pants pockets if I'm not wearing a jacket..Thank you for speaking slowly and without any music blaring in the background..You made it a pleasurable experience..Regards Danny 🙋‍♂

The flip Samsung phones scratches so easily even with your nails because it has a plastic screen protector so something like that the actual screen doesn’t get scratch easily, yes, they will replace the plastic screen protector that’s on top only for free one time

My daughter told me that she would camp out overnight at the Apple Store and gladly over pay for a foldable iPhone, even with a crease in it. I'm sure there are other people who feel the same way. Apple should hurry up and make the foldable phones so their customers can have a choice, just like Samsung customers have a choice.

I tried the Galaxy Fold thingie but for me the device needs to be more slim so I’m not carrying a brick. I would like to see iOS change to iPadOS when extended into a tablet like view but it would require Apple to figure out where iOS stops and iPadOS starts.

I don’t know how much slower Apple can introduce devices that others have for years. An the Samsung flip is no slouch. “As soon as 2026” is really ridiculous to think about. So much can change, with other companies anyway. iPhone rumors used to be late spring to fall. Now we’ve heard about iPhone 17 a couple months after iPhone 15 is released. It’s all pretty crazy.

I would much prefer to see a Fold style over Flip style. My Pro Max iPhones were never an issue with portability and I don’t have much use for a small screen with widgets when I have my Apple Watch on me. Plus the constant opening and closing would be annoying. However, opening a rectangle slab into an even bigger rectangle slab for media consumption and productivity would be much more useful. Knowing Apple though, we can probably forget about that. They wouldn’t want to eat into iPad sales.

I want the book-style. I feel that allows a phone to expand into a tablet, or a tablet reducing into a phone. The clamshell is more favorable to the iPhone Mini and small phone users, I guess. Also, it's very discrete. It's the smallest phone you can have, I think. I'm not interested in multiple products with similar functions and designs. That's why I like the idea of the phone that can be a tablet.

i use the zfold 5 and i only notice the screen when it is turned at a certain angle. but when looking directly at the screen it is hardly noticeable, note i also work in the rail industry so it has had a pretty decent taste of the elements and dropped more times then id like to admit.

I really dislike these folding phones, but I can’t deny there’s some sort of market out there for them. The form should change when there’s a specific problem or need to answer. I don’t really feel like there is one. Also, I have three friends with foldable phones and they’re ready to move back. Always exciting to see companies do something new, but I struggle to see the value prop.

My wife does NOT like the larger form factor of recent iPhones as she finds them too big for her hands and a nuisance to store in her (small) hand bag. She would probably like the iPhone Flip (iFlip?). I DO like the larger screen, BUT am not a fan of how uncomfortable it is in a pocket when sitting, and how difficult it can be getting it in or out of a pocket especially with a case. An iFlip might be more practical as an "everyday carry." I think I would like a folding style iPhone (iFold?) when driving. The larger screen would be more useful for navigation apps. There might even be enough room to have a split screen with one side showing navigation and the other displaying a phone call, text or weather app.
