Here is what I would do: iPad Pro (1099) - 13 inch only, a low tier m4 with 8gb ram where one of the p cores becomes an e core and peak performance is limited which can be more efficient and get better batterylife, the normal m4 (200 extra), mac os, the rest of the specs are the same but it comes with a pencil pro included and the folio case is a 200 dollar upgrade. Also ram and storage are upgradable individually so you don't need get 1tb for 16gb. iPad Air (549) - 11 inch and 13 inch (699) , single layer oled, 90hz, 8gb ram, a18 pro chip for better battery life,normal iPad os, pencil or pencil pro, rest of specs same, but the folio case should be 200 dollars and not 349 dollars. iPad Mini (399) - Same Size, but with single layer oled, 90hz display, a18/a17 chip, and support for both pencil and pencil pro, rest of specs same iPad (349) - Same size, 60hz lcd, a18/a17 chip, apple pencil and pencil pro support, the rest of the specs are same Also the normal apple pencil will have mostly the same specs but it should finally get the magnetic capability instead of the idiotic USB-C butthole charging. Thats my take what do you think fpt?

I'm disagreeing with you on one level: The iPad range is pretty good, and way better than any Android tablet that I've seen. In fact, 3 of the past 6 Apple devices I've bought have been iPads. This iPad Pro does everything I need it to do, and if It needed replacing today, I'd buy the new model. The problem is that people often try to compare them with MacBooks or iMacs, when they should be regarded as a discrete device, designed to do what it does, and to do it well. By and large, it succeeds admirably. I agree with you about the iPad Air, however. And the iPad Mini should also be addressed by Apple, because its form factor makes it perfect for a pocket-sized tablet, in contrast to the larger models. I'd say make it slightly smaller, if anything. That would leave it much better than the discontinued iPod Touch. Yes, the OS needs sorting out, firstly by giving it more capability for running multiple active apps simultaneously, giving it the capabilities of a MacBook. And it definitely needs to move away from being locked to a Mac in order to add multimedia to Music. Early versions of iTunes were pretty good, but Apple gradually crippled it by removing really useful features, before leaving us with the mess today that is Music. In particular, I hate the fact that media cannot be transferred to it easily from other apps, and that other apps cannot access the music library directly. To me, there's only one big hardware deficiency with all iPads: They need a second charging/accessory socket. Wifi is fine for some functions, but it really sucks in a busy environment, so a physical connection becomes essential. I often connect an SSD to this iPad, to transfer large files quickly when wifi is not available or inadequate for the task. If I want to recharge the battery at the same time, then I have a problem, and resorting to using a hub is untidy, prone to accidental disconnection and inconvenient in that situation.

Greed is at the core of apple, a penny pinching company that stop providing chargers for their own devices so that people are forced to buy an over priced Chinese charger built in sweat shops like every apple product. But Apple users aren't that bright, which is why they are still in business.

Its been a while since John has said things that make sense. This one does. iPadOS needs to have for starters a real mouse cursor that behaves like a mouse, and not some weird bubble thing that locks onto things I dont want it to. It needs proper window management, that i can resize and put wherever the heck I want. It needs a proper file manager. It just needs a lot of polishing to provide more of that computer interface than a poorly expanded iPhone interface. But dont expect much of anything...

I agree with the macOS portion, but the rest is why most KZbinrs don’t work at Apple lol. The “MacBook” is gone afaik. But the MacBook Air is not. Remove the “iPad”. Replace it with the iPad Air, but reduce the iPad Air price by using a middle ground of the features that it AND the iPad currently has. iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro.

What was that you were saying about there not being an iPhone Air?
@jish86817 ай бұрын
I see the ipad as an extension of the iphone with a bigger screen with the addition of being able to take notes on it with the pencil, not like a replacement for a pc or laptop, of which i still use both. It's just nice to have a bigger screen to watch stuff on or control music on my speakers or write things down without needing a notebook. It doesnt need to be a replacement for a laptop like they seem to want it to be (although weird that they still put "enhanced" ios on it) its just nice to be able to do the same basic tasks i do on my phone with a nice huge screen, and hopefully that overkill performance will lead to more years of support.
@TMC30007 ай бұрын
While I agree with you on some points being that iPad is just a larger iPhone,….i don’t quite support your opinion of it remaining so as they (APPLE) are trying to promote iPad Pro as a creative/productivity device rather than for content consumption. One will think it will be pro enough to be uniquely made for professional in various fields but No it’s not like that at all, just the same as others.

Well, I think the current ipad line-up is great! Having iPad Air is really a MUST to bridge the cheap iPad and the expensive pro models.
@NeKa..7 ай бұрын
You said it Jon! Although I would tweak a bit with your proposition of lineups. There is no need to be more than 3 ipad ranges, as you said. But here's the tweak (keeping how far competition has advanced now) iPad mini - one size - 256 to 512 GB - £400 - £500 max iPad Air - one size - 11" - 256GB , 513GB, 1TB - £600 - £1000 max MacPad - MacOS that can run iOS/iPadOS app store apps - one size - 13" - 256GB, 512GB, 1-2 TB - £1100 - £2000 max Apple pencil - 2 options - pencil (£80) and pro £120 max) - AND compatible with all touchscreen Apple devices. Of course people can find reasons why not. I, on the other hand, don't see why I should spend all that for limited used when competition is already more capable. I mean, don't even get me started why they won't talk about AI (or lack of thereof) but make pencil 'hover' a bold headline. In the end, my Samsung spen xan work both their tablets and phones, take a selfie, remote control slideshows, gp back/forward on browser on a flick, and perhaps more than I'm aware of. All this, and it's included in with ultras (phones or tablets). On the AI front, circle-to-search is in daily use, and every so often I using 3-4 floating apps, for my grocery orders and comparison along with my shopping lists. The Ultra thin M4 iPad Pro won't do half of all that, yet it's priced at twice as much at those ultra devices. This is not rocket science to see, as Jon said, ipad is ipad - mini or pro. But what saddens me most is that my one-time fav company is anything but customer-focused. I'm feeling Steve Jobs loss more with each passing year, where his products would speak for itself. Tim Cook ruined it with being focused only on APPL. Such an approach is ner sustainable. No wonder he has to bring an Asian face in the event stream to salvage his loosing China market share.

How about: * iPad - for people who needs a cheap and basic iPad for work, school or entertainment, one size, runs iPasOS * iPad Air - for people who want an iPad with more features and the Apple Pencil Pro, 3 sizes (mini, regular and Max), runs iPadOS * iPad Pro - for people who want the ultimate versatile Apple tablet-computer hybrid, 2 sizes, runs MacOS or preferably iPadProOS (which would be 70% MacOS and 30% iPadOS) I think this method would differentiate the iPad Air from the iPad Pro in a way that would make the iPad Pro worth it’s extremely high price compared to the iPad Air BTW, I was so disappointed when the event was over without the iPad mini getting some love 😢

@AdamFalconieri7 ай бұрын
I truly believe they’ll find a way to build the gap between iPadOS and macOS (fingers crossed for WWDC24). Imagine an iPad Pro, running kind of an ‘iPadOS Extreme’ software, where you can basically launch on a Mac style springboard when unlocking the device. With a real desktop view like macOS showing files and why not direct app shortcuts, connected to iCloud Drive. Ofc, keeping the App Store as it is on iPad and merge the actual one with the Mac App Store, as well as the App Library always in the dock to launch iPad-like App, AND real .dmg macOS apps, adapted for touch screen. It would be an insanely good deal. I would instantly buy a 1To M4 iPad Pro today with this kind of software update, where I could enjoy my favorite iPad Apps, as well as my Pro suite such as Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D, Figma & so much more.

I politely disagree. I don't want iPads to have MacOS at all. I want iPads to be iPads, with all mobile apps working on it while being battery friendly. I was thinking along similar lines a couple of days ago. I have an M1 MacBook Air and it serves me well, no intention of replacing it. But... if I had to replace it, what would I get. The 13" iPad Pro, with the new fancy keyboard would be the ideal choice as I use illustration apps with a pen on my iPad mini, but then I wouldn't want to use iPad OS for my daily tasks. Put a better OS on the iPad and I could consolidate 2 devices into one, probably spending a similar amount, but it's less to carry around.

Here's how I would change the line up. First keep all the models but change some of the features. Make the Air the thin one (which makes sense) and with the Pro give us more battery and give back the physical sim slot. As a Pro user I wouldn't mind it being a little thicker/heavier if I didn't have to worry about the battery while traveling and the physical sim is just easier to deal with if you travel a lot for work over seas.

If you just rename it (iPad Air -> iPad, iPad -> iPad SE) then it's basically iPhone lineup, same for the Macbook. Also, what Pro features would you actually use on iPad that are missing? From what Apple offers, only thing I can think of is Xcode. The key factor for each category is input type and screen size, more than software at this point. People who have use cases for this big phone-like thing + pencil (+ keyboard sometimes) are already using it, and people who don't say that it needs something else they themselves don't know what is. iPadOS based on MacOS and being able to install anything from the web would be something, but might end up being a bad thing.

Apple’s earlier I-pad Pro 12.9. around (2015-2017) were great. They were sturdy, stylish, thin but not super thin, curved edges, great response, not too heavy, and offered white bezels which aren’t as noticeable as black. I don’t know why they didn’t keep this base and just improve on the battery, offer improved chips, picture, & decrease the size of the Top & bottom bezel. The measurements of the older 12.9 I-Pad Pro (2015-2017) are actually larger than The new I-Pad 13” Air & Pro.
