With that kind of processing speed, MacBook Air can take on new extraordinarily intensive tasks like professional-quality editing and action-packed gaming. But the 8‑core CPU on M1 isn‘t just up to 3.5x faster than the previous generation^2 . 2. Testing conducted by Apple in October 2020 using pre-production MacBook Air systems with Apple M1 chip and 8-core GPU, as well as production 1.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7-based MacBook Air systems, all configured with 16GB RAM and 2TB SSD. Tested with pre-release Final Cut Pro 10.5 using a 55-second clip with 4K Apple ProRes RAW media, at 4096x2160 resolution and 59.94 frames per second, transcoded to Apple ProRes 422. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of MacBook Air. It's faster by that much in Final Cut Pro which could be well optimized for this chip. Also, Apple still sells higher versions of MacBook Pro 13 based on intel CPU (probably faster?) - 8:52 Marques looks at that page and ignores it while talking about thunderbolt ports.

One of my biggest issue with battery life stats is that depending on the brightness of the screen is how long your battery will last. So they threw out all those numbers but we don't know if the screen is operating at lowest resolution or brightness, or if it's at the middle of the brightness setting, or it gives you the actual time with the brightness maxed out which I doubt. The graphics processing of this SoC is amazing. My bus simulator project runs at 6-8 fps on Intel integrated gpu at Ultra quality (settings designed for gaming PCs with at least GTX 1050TI or better). Using the exact same settings and running under Roseta 2 on M1... It gets 60 fps. So insane! This enables a lot of new possibilities for the Mac in the future. Who would have known that...

I’d very much appreciate a video on products that were met with extreme criticism when Apple announced them at their respective Keynote and how that played out in retrospect. Like the AirPods which were labeled as overpriced, stupid and nothing more than a cash-grab as Apple removed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. Another one is the Apple Pencil which also didn’t seem like anything to write home about. Another interesting video would be a ranking of Apple’s best products (hardware and software included even an OS update) from the past decade and how tech has changed after each product’s release. This is highly subjective based on the conditions as sometimes one aspect of the product is more groundbreaking than the overall product itself e.g. M1 or the App Store.

With the benefit of a lot more speed at a far lower price. You’re not going to beat Intel by doing things the same way Intel does them. It’s like people complaining about iPhones not taking micro-SD cards so you have to buy all the storage from Apple at “artificially high prices”, but the reality is that what Apple is putting onboard is actually about the fastest performing storage that’s made. Their RAM will be the same story here - it’ll likely be among the highest performing RAM on the market compared to anything else.

Intel's 11th generation and the new Ryzen chips released this year were both significant jumps in performance and battery life. Please compare the Macbook to those in your future video rather than comparing it to last gen MacBooks. Btw it is strange how Apple had to remove the cooling fan from MacBook Air in order to make the Pro look good.

Let's say M1 can only max at 20W but intel chip could go to 30W, then intel would easily beat m1 in performance with only compromise being battery life (and we still don't know how much will be that)

This M1 just changed everything, most people don't know the potential behind putting ARM tech in Desktops and Laptops will do for us "consumers" in the now future. Imagine having a laptop with a charge that could last a month and still be more than capable to outperform everything else. This to me is truly revolutionary, I can't wait to see what the M2 will be able to do. Great video Marques.

With all the processing, graphics and ram on one chip, including it seems the thunderbolt controller, I think fixing these will be expensive. I think I’ll wait it out a year and see how the software such as Adobe interstates. This is a good year to build a Windows desktop and replace my MacBook next year.

But honestly there are many small things that apple does so much better which makes such a huge difference and windows is so goddamn stupid a lot of times like needing to go into the registry to change things.

Remember the AMD events? Remember their graphs, and how they compared their products to NAMED options offered by competitors and used meaningful statistics and numbers? That was impressive. mac air with m1 chip, been using for 2 weeks now. love the performance, battery lasts the whole day so no worries about that. it is so chilling cold, never heats up, even slightly! and completely silent! what l love about macs is that they have this elegant zen like feel to it. i tried to switch to windows laptops but could not make myself to do it.

But they are still invested in mining it for their own profiteering. Plus they are a haven of interest for the countless others who rely on that data for their own hustle. I think it is a fine choice using their ecosystem, but don't feel invulnerable just because it's a little better on one front. If you keep up to date you will be pushed through an expensive gauntlet of releases whilst still remaining far from anonymous, but causing much ewaste and never being on the cutting edge - not that that is any better a consideration for an end user

I use a desktop PC that I built myself, but the last laptop I used was a 2012 Macbook Pro. I really liked it, so I'm pretty interested in seeing what they do with their new chips. Their mobile processors have always been pretty good. Kind of curious as to what Google does with their in house SoCs for their pixel phones whenever they release them.
