I'm a PC! always have been, always will be, I like the fact that I can build something myself, to my specifications and design style, and be able to upgrade it, reusing many parts of the system. Prebuilt systems like Macs and even PC are important too, not everyone wants to build, they just want something that they can plug in and works. Both PC and Mac are perfectly capable machines, both can get the job done, it's simply the preference of the user, for me the pricing of Macs is too much to swallow.

"Both can get the job done" and "simply the preference of the user" are oversimplified ways to describe a matter that's much more complex. There are and always will be differences in price/performance ratio, how fast you can get the job done, software differences and how optimized certain software is in different platforms etc etc...

I have the Adobe suite and am good to go. That is a plus though with apple
@77dris2 жыл бұрын
@@KZbinr-ku4nk Yeah, I built PCs for a dozen years, and never upgraded parts, only the systems. They were ugly and noisy and I had to blow the dust out of them on a monthly basis. Yuck. And then there is Windows and the drivers and registry and annoyances. In 2015 I priced out a high end iMac and everything was about the same price as building my own PC with similar high end parts (and a 5K monitor)... in fact the PC was slightly more. The warranty is way easier to get with an iMac then it is buying 20 different parts from 20 different manufactures too. So I kissed Windows goodbye and will never go back. I even game AAA titles on my 7 year old iMac (usually at high settings too, like the entire Tomb Raider series, Dying Light, and lots more (no boring trendy multiplayer online games though for me).
@77dris2 жыл бұрын
Great point, Fro, about "who cares about upgrading parts". I built high end custom PCs for 12 years and never once upgraded parts. Not once. I then got an iMac in 2015 and I love it, and can still sell it for a decent amount. When new cpus/gpus came out, they usually needed new motherboards anyway, so I'd always just upgrade my entire system. And the nice thing about Macs is that they retain their resale value so you don't lose out upgrading the whole thing. My PCs generally could not be sold after a couple years and I'd have to gift them to friends or family. I do have a bit of a problem with the pricing. The cost of the monitor alone now is the price of the entry level iMacs with the entire computer, including the keyboard and mouse! The price of the Studio setup now is about 2x more expensive than the iMac. I had $5000 cdn and change saved up to replace my 2015 iMac expecting to get something near the high end of the line, but now that only buys me the entry level.
@JasonTaylor-po5xc2 жыл бұрын
Yeap. I tend to build a new PC every 5-10 years. While the building process itself is a fun project - once assembled and troubleshot, I have zero desire to crack that back open to add stuff - even ram. I generally build the biggest beast I can afford and use it until the entire rig dies or I repurpose for a family member. These days, I do most real work on a Mac but keep my PC for running virtual machines and playing games.
@Zarabozo2 жыл бұрын
I've built high end PCs for myself for about 20 years now and I *do* upgrade parts during the 5-7 years I use them. But that's not the only thing they're good for. When I decide to build a newer one, lots of components from the previous one are still an up to date component that I can use on the new one, making it much cheaper to build. Right now I'm looking into building a new one with one of the best and faster processors we can buy today, and I'll I need is to buy the motherboard, the processor and the RAM, because I have an amazing rack mounted chasis I still can use, I have 8TB in M.2 SSD that are still the fastest option, I have another 12TB in SATA SSDs that are still top of the line, and another 36 TB in super fast HHDs that I use for archiving and backups, along with an RTX video card that was one of the last components I upgraded on the current one. I also have many Noctua fans in perfect condition I can use for the new buiild and my 1500 watts silent titanium modular power supply is working like the first day. I also have a 4k HDR 32'' display, which I also upgraded last year. I would have to spend about 10k USD (or more) to build a PC like that from the ground, but instead it will cost me only around 3k or 4k to have a top of the line build one more time, with super powerful components and huge amounts of fast storage. And all that thanks to the fact I upgrade components when I have a chance, not having to spend a lot in a single shot. What was the point for you to build a high end PC and never ever upgrade components and just go for a completely new one later?
@77dris Жыл бұрын
I've been at this for 25 years so I know what I'm talking about and still have to help people today with PCs (ugh). Because, whenever I needed to upgrade to the latest say, CPU, I also would need a brand new motherboard, which required entirely different ram, and often the GPU interface would be different requiring a whole new GPU... and then the power draw was way more, so I would need a brand new power supply (something I never cheaped out on). And I often found the case I had would not be suitable for the new motherboard/PSU. I would keep the harddrive once or twice, but the thing is, they filled up fast and newer, faster ones were always being introduced every couple years and many would need newer interfaces... plus harddrives filled up fast as software got more bloated. And then all the hassle dealing with Windows and its drivers and the ever more bloated registry. I would routinely have to install Windows fresh ever 6 months to keep it running decently... or I would have to always go into the registry and system folders to clear out junk left behind by every program after an uninstall. WAY too much hassle. If one piece of hardware died, good luck diagnosing what it was. You'd generally need backup parts to swap in/out because BSODs or computer not turning on could be anything from PSU, to memory, to CPU to motherboard. Once I got an iMac all that hassle was gone and I could focus on my design work. No registries, no driver worries, and even after 7 years the OS works just as well as it did when I got it. No reinstalls necessary. Heck, I even gamed on this system and loved it play quite a few AAA games too. Now, I have an Xbox for gaming the latest stuff, and mac for everything else. It's faster, cheaper, and silent compared to what I would have to get with a comparable PC setup... and just so much more peace of mind. Plus I have AppleCare and if anything goes wrong, they take care of you with no hassles. Also, macs keep their resale value where PCs do not. Want to upgrade? Just sell and put that money to a new one (or trade it in to Apple). PCs after about a year or two lose 90% of their value especially homebuilt ones. I have a cousin who upgrades scraps n parts from here and there and has a mess of a system(s) going and I just do not envy the BS he goes through keeping it all running. @@Zarabozo

And while I realize he said it just arrived, some other creators are showing actual results in videos also released today, so it almost seems like this video is out because it is first-day and not because there are any results to show. Untrue... go check Tally Ho Tech for example (there are many more) that show even the M1 Max blows the RTX3080 "out of the water" in most pro apps (like video editing, graphic editing etc) and the new Ultra will be twice as fast as that . If you are talking about gaming though, nobody really cares about that. It's a PC mindset that you need massive, ugly, power hungry, dust-collecting, inefficient parts to power through things. Even the original M1 Macbook Air has no fans at all and uses 1/10th the power of a desktop PC and can edit and render out video faster than an RTX 3090 PC, for way less money (just go check out Max Tech or about a dozen other channels as an example). Also, an RTX 3090 has to run on WIndows (or worse, Linux) so as long as it wont work on macOS, it's a no go from the getgo.

@@whiterock1865 It’s still smarter with the current market to have multiple monitors, especially for aspect ratio and resolution. You will always have a warped image with an ultrawide and for some applications like graphic design for specific products, or CAD or 3d modeling that might be an issue. So you see a lot of editors have many monitors for different purposes. A reference monitor for color grading, a TV for testing previews on a display consumers will be using, and then scopes for even more detailed color grading or gamma or whatever. So you often see a whole screen for pallets and tools, a whole display for the timeline of a video edit, and another display for viewing the output. So an ultrawide can be really helpful for productivity but limits a lot of other workflows. So I don’t see Apple doing it anytime soon, because they generally focus less on consumer and more the prosumer or professional market.

I know a lot of ppl buying a gaming PC, never read on any forum about photographers using a WS... but latest is better...? Follow the masses or go with the WS? (Considering buying a new pc in near future, so that's why i ask)

The base unit should be more than enough and as you mentioned just bump up the ram/ ssd. They seem to be sending the reviewers only the ultra - however HDMI 2.0 is kind of hard to swallow - they are essentially forcing you to the Studio monitor or finding something with thunderbolt connection - really restricts you to 60hz displays, The display is essentially an iMac with a heavy price bump for the extra 100 nits of brightness. BTW Photoshop still uses mostly single processor - so the Ultra will make almost no differrence for a photographer to the entry level

Waiting for a base ultra to drop on the mat here, I didvorder the screen too but cancelled it as I feel I can’t go back to 27 from 32……. If they release a reasonable cost 32 I’ll probably bite

The only bad thing about this Mac Studio its the not replaceable ssd, so if it dies your stuck with an aluminum brick. Also its not enough USB ports for some people. At least they said its not the "mac pro" replacement so i hope that the Mac pro fixes this small details
@PaulCarmona2 жыл бұрын
It will - but I can bet the starting price will be the same as the maxed out Studio version - I think the CPU choice will be M1 Ultra base then M1 extreme upgrade

Im looking at buying M1Max Studio, 64GB, 1TB and a 32" Asus ProArt HDR display. Put a 4K Lumina webcam on top. Should be awesome for photo editing in Lightroom and Photoshop plus video editing in Resolve and FCPX. Currently using a 2017 5k iMac. Extra speed from the Mac Studio would be great but the HDR monitor will be awesome :)

Question: Please tell us when using the Photoshop Magic Brush, is there any difference in performance between the Mac Studio Max Vs Ultra? The Magic brush uses GPU power so it should be much better on the Ultra. Thanks

Do yourself a favour!! Bypass the M1 Studio’s internal memory & load the Startup Disk on a Sabrent Rocket 8gb Gen4 m.2 NVNe ext drive. Then use the internal memory as additional ram booster. Definitely Makes Big Deference 🚀

Do you know anything about the canon 1d mark IV and how it compares to the 7d mark 2
@keensoundguy66372 жыл бұрын
Jared's firmly in the mirrorless world. Check other channels/sites for DSLR reviews/comparisons.

The 7d MK II is a crop sensor camera & the 1d is a full frame & is the top camera for Canon. If you’re shooting wildlife the 7d MKII may be the preference since it has a 1.6x crop factor. But you can do both on either 1d is a more expensive camera & is the flagship DSLR for canon designed for professional use.

I sold my 7d MKII for an Canon R5 mirrorless.

I'm spoiled by the 5k iMac display, just wishing Apple had a follow-on (non-pro) 27inch iMac. Breaking it up into separate pieces completely blows my budget... I don't have $3600.00 minimum to get something comparable in an update from a Late 2015 iMac.
@lfisher81542 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't at all worry about the 32 vs 27 - simply have two 27s or add an existing monitor to the 27 for an awesome setup - Yea it is more expensive but great workflow.
@77dris2 жыл бұрын
It's not even that much more expensive if you get like a Dell IPS 27" 4k for a 2nd monitor. It's not as good as the 5K Apple displays but it's a great 2nd monitor for pretty cheap.

Were you given this to test out and review or did you actually purchase it? Looking into it myself to replace my 2017 IMAC since I am finally going to start shooting some video and just purchased Final Cut Pro and of course if I customize it my delivery might be 90 days but not a big deal. Look forward to your future hands on review.

I think we had the same 27" iMac. Mine is from late 2010 I think. I boosted the RAM to the max and upgraded it to an SSD and still use it for some things. But for video and photo editing, I replaced it with an M1 Mac Mini which has amazing performance for the price. I mean REALLY amazing! I think the Mac studio, even the most base one will be great but, believe it or not, I'm perfectly happy with the performance from my little Mac mini. Apple hit a home run when they stopped using Intel chips. I think I want an apple chip in my next camera! I'm kidding of course but not completely. Enjoyable video Jared & Stephen. Thanks!
