I cannot be the only one thinking at first MIL was trying to make OP sick enough to lose the baby, then - by insisting her food be fed to baby - trying to off the baby entirely. There is something far more sinister afoot here than just an ignorant MIL and SIL. Also, why not take food to local lab to get it tested that first time, then make police report and go NC? That would be my solution.

Exactly. The first time, could've been brushed off as ignorance but not every freaking time. Did you notice their replies when the son asked why they didn't just eat the food themselves?
I actually waited for the moment she'd have made some food for SIL and MIL and gleefully state how it's made from the meat she send and watch closely how they try to get out of eating it while still insisting it's safe to eat.

The local Board of Health inspector (for food service establishments) and I had a discussion about food safety. He said, “Sure, you can kill the bad bacteria, but there are things that the bacteria excretes that cannot be done away with by high temperatures.” He implied that the excretions were poisonous.

The way she kept insisting on the DIL eating it, while pregnant and after the baby's birth, sounded like she really wanted to get rid of the baby. I really thought she would secretly admit that to her DIL, instead of insisting that she didn't know the food was bad.

I was getting a rather horrifying feeling that the reason why Mary and Jody were so insistent on getting the daughter-in-law and the baby to eat the food was in hopes that if they were out of the way, then the husband would be back under the control of his mom and sister or they would try to marry him off to a woman that they approve of and will be their obedient slave.
@agiles64836 ай бұрын
Cooking meat that has been left unrefrigerated long enough to develop mold and a bad smell should absolutely not be eaten. Especially while pregnant. Cooking will not remove the toxins the bacteria make that make you sick from food poisoning. This is especially important to protect the very young, the very old, those who are pregnant and anyone with a compromised immune system.
@conjumonblue64506 ай бұрын
Correct. Mold that forms on raw meat excretes poisonous substances which are not destroyed by cooking.

That MIL must have an impressive digestive system if she always ate moldy food when she was young Edit: This was such a strange story with a weird ending...the mother in law was just stubborn and the sister in law was just an annoying brat. There wasn't any ulterior motives like the sister was purposely making the food spoiled cause she was jealous or the mother hated the OP. The story as a whole was kinda just boring tbh

@Bonniethebunny6 ай бұрын
I think it was intentional that they were making the food bad. Given how long it takes for mold to develop, there had to be some intention behind it. Plus the fact that the SIL kept saying she ate her mother's food no matter what, then the MIL saying that SIL couldn't eat it because she had a weak digestive system. They clearly also knew it was bad when they said they couldn't eat it, and sent it anyways. Something was going on behind the scenes

In some states, sending food that is unfit for consumption is a form of Assault and Battery at minimum, and attempted murder at most - especially if this is done on a regular basis. If it happened at my house once, then I would have agreed with my wife that throwing it out was the best thing to do, but I would have asked her to find a neighbor or trusted friend as a witness before throwing the food in the trash. If this continued, it would be best to have them as witnesses so that we knew that we were not going "crazy" or trying to start "trouble" by throwing the food in the trash. Maybe even writing a journal, and taking pictures, would also be a good thing to have in case we needed to go to the police. I know that if the police got involved, having all this evidence would counter any reasoning that the MIL or SIL would say against the wife's claims of the bad food.
@angelicafigueroa02213 ай бұрын
She said 'its nothing to do with me' when asked why the food was always moldy.... Earlier she admitted that she left the food to get moldy on purpose, of which the brother/OPs husband, knew about having said he's seen the previous messages between his sister and his wife so why is the SIL acting dumb now? She admitted it Was told that her messages about it were seen by her own brother but when he asks she wants to act dumb... unbelievable
