Four years into marriage my (ex) husband and I decided to have a child. I'd been on the heavy duty version of the Pill (typical then) several years and the doctor told me I may not be able to get pregnant. My response was "okay".. doctor was appalled..."don't you WANT a child?". I pointed out I had a life and if I couldn't get pregnant that life would go on. I thought....idiot. I knew that when I started puberty at 10 1/2. Mom got me as many pamphlets about it as she could. Only one was SO STUPID by saying prayer will help keep you from becoming pregnant 🤪 I showed both my parents that pamphlet before I ripped it up and tossed the pieces into the wood annex we used to heat the kitchen. We had a wood furnace in the basement that was used to heat the entire house in the winter.

I dunno if OP accusing Sam of Oedipus complex did anything to his mom but the ending makes it sound like he was just so under his overbearing mom's control that what happened 3 years later with his ex-wife was a wake-up call. He allowed his mom to control his life & I guess the part about oedipus complex(or possibly his mom trying to act on it since it supposedly happened some time after the uninvited visit) finally made him leave. I hope the ex-husband gets help cause given being under his mom's control this whole time & anything else he likely needs therapy. Finally standing up to her was the first step. I guess if there even was a next time since his mom is out of the picture he'll hopefully support his wife instead of being pushed around by her. I might be wrong interpreting all of this but when the husband was brought up(especially the looking at the table during the verbal abuse bit) aside from never standing up to his mom for OP everything was the mom's fault cause she's a controlling insane woman. Either way he finally had enough & is gone. OP can live a happy life with her new family & ex-MIL has nothing she wanted thanks to her own actions. She son she controlled to the point his ex accused him of Oedipus is gone cause he finally had a wake-up call, she'll never have that grandchild she was desperate for(apparently not enough to believe both parties need checked) & to add insult to injury her neighbors not only know what she did to some women(try asking them to make a kid with her son) but the way her final interactions with the son went led to people thinking she not only made her DIL run off but her son run off cause she was possibly attracted to him.

I had an Ex, who kept demanding I get tested. I went and got tested 3 times privately, and I was very healthy but didn't want to hurt her, so I kept refusing to go with her. She refused to go as she thought it had to be me. One day, she just told me she wanted a kid and was going looking for a REAL MAN. She left. 2 years later, I had a daughter with my current partner, and she finally got tested. She is now alone. She doesn't want to be a stepmother and would rather be alone. My daughter is now 20, and my ex still lives with her parents.

People who demand grandchildren are the worst. You have children because you want them, not because you expect them to give you grandchildren. Children need to be planned for (adoption or biological means); they're not a pet you can bring home! You don't and shouldn't have them on someone else's timeline. Unless Francine wants to bust the dust off one of her eggs to donate, she needs to stay in her place!
