Well, they mentioned a priest's name so likely Catholic or Anglican (Catholics are the ones who do exorcism, typically, so my vote is for that). As such, adultery is a sin that can be confessed and forgiven, divorce, otoh, is a commentary on your suitability as a spouse. She has a big old bag that is empty, with nary a f*** to give, he cheated and she wants to be rid of him, but reputation matters to him. If he cannot make it work, he is ( in his own opinion ) a failure as a man. I am a Catholic, so I understand the underlying belief in public standing, but screw that. I am divorced and glad to be shed of my ex-wife. She cheated and we reconciled once, second time and I couldn't get out quick enough. The day you worry more about standing than self respect you may as well just give up.

My uncle was one of those. Only met him twice. But he was a pastor or something. But I had go somewhere with him when we went to visit. He started preaching to me about God's animals and I tried to plug my ears from the hypocrite. He was all preachy yet at home He'd shoot his dog. I was a teenager and no cell phone or internet so nothing I could do for the poor thing. He lived out of the way in Arkansas so no next door neighbors in the suburbs type thing to hear and know. The dog was gone and told "ran away " by the next visit. He claimed he'd been trying to get it to run away. That the pound was miles away.

My friend’s wife before they met, she dated a different guy. He was ok at 1st. She started seeing changes. Even though they both got an apartment together, she realized he paid for less and less. Never bought anything. No groceries, nothing. When she confronted him, he kicked her out. So she left. He also told her to take all her junk Malicious compliance. She did. Furniture? Hers. Plates and silverware? Hers. All her clothes and belongings, decorations around every room? Hers. All that was left was his clothes, a chair he used to sit in before moving in together, a night stand, his radio, a lamp, and his video games. No tv…. He used his parents tv before they moved in together. The tv he used while dating her was her old tv… At 1st he threatened to sue. She lawyered up and had receipts of everything. Proving she paid for it plus her credit card statements proving there’s the transaction history. He tried to file a police report for theft…. That fell through because he admitted everything. He thought someone would see his side. Even his friends said he’s a jackass. He wanted to live for free. He has a job but didn’t pay for anything. He was evicted. He lives in a motel…. Nobody took him in due to his actions and how he treated her. He also saw his ex with my friend in a target. Holding hands and with their baby daughter… I remember both telling me he walked into the sporting goods section and sobbed silently…

Speaking of family values when I was 17 I entered the Lego Contest at a fair that wasn't exactly local but my family worked it and attended every year. I entered a very detailed church and won first place. The secret theme seemed to be family values though because second place was a flag with people saluting it. Well the best mini figures can.
