I like how this story is a reverse of so many of the other stories we see. The mother in law was good. The daughter in law, son and exhusband bad. I liked how the voices were reversed too. The DIL voice is usually the one suffering, but this time she is the evil one. The MIL voice is usually the narcissistic evil one, but not this time. Nice twist! Not necessarily. My parents divorced when I was a toddler. No alimony or child support. No further contact except I did send a graduation announcement from HS and got a card back from his 2nd wife. Nothing from him. My half siblings found out about me after our father died and they found a picture of me as a baby in his things. I contacted a couple of them years later on facebook and exchanged a few emails but have never met them.

Everyone is missing the plot hole huge enough to sail the Titanic through.... aren't divorce papers usually required to be notarized once filled out by one party? Unless the notary is in on it, they MUST verify the identity of at least one of the parties before they will apply their seal. If the notary helps falsify documents, not only are they likely to lose their credentials, they would likely face additional professional and personal consequences.

Not always. My ex and I had a mediated divorce. We met with an attorney (ex-judge in our case) and decided our details (property division, child support, alimony, everything). He didn't represent either of us - just mediated our discussions and made sure everything was legal. He handled all paperwork. We signed our final agreement & he submitted it to the court electronically. The judge at the court approved it, the clerk registered it, then emailed it back to our mediator, who emailed it to us. We never saw the judge.
