@@VictorECaplon I am speaking for myself. They obviously did the math and decided against it. My touch bar actually failed on the hardware level and was blinking and flashing uncontrollably so they had to replace the whole assembly for free which was a ~$700 job otherwise.

I agree. I just recently trade in my m1 MacBook Pro 2020 at the apple store and the employees we’re confused because it looks brand new. I told him I don’t like that’s it been a year and no apps are still compatible for the m1 chips since they switch intel.

It’s just unfortunate that this new MacBook Pro is thicker and heavier than my current 16” MBP. and lacks a Touch Bar- a feature that I liked. When they introduced the Touch Bar I said this was a feature that only Apple could make a reality. And now it’s painfully obvious that Apple can’t make it a reality. Have fun with your road Apple. I’ll wait until Apple starts innovating again.

People where commentting about the notch totally ignore what matters to a computer, the new M1pro and M1x blows every performance metrics out of the water while running at much lower power consumption and lower thermal. With better screen and touch bar removed. Just wait until benchmarks come out and it'll blow everybody away

@@AnimeBeefRandoms to utilize the whole top edge. Without the notch you wouldn't have had the extra screen on both sides for status bar. You literally gain extra screen with the notch. In normal screen, you would lose a small portion of the top edge for the whole status bar anyways

Mobile GPUs are a whole complicated beasts since a no of factors determine the performance.

IIRC, the OG M1 was barely more powerful than a GT 1030. Of course it's not an apples to apples comparison (no pun intended) since the GT 1030 is 100% undupported by macOS and the M1 chip is 100% unsupported by any other OS but it should give you an idea of how unlikely it is that even the M1 max will fall even close to a 3080. A 3070 mobile isn't totally out of the question but I wouldn't count on it. Even CPU wise it's still not the most powerful chip on the planet, my ryzen 7 2700 still outperforms it in multithreaded cinebench r23. What the M1 is the best chip at though is thin and light laptops. It has the same or better performance compared to x86 chips in it's pricerange while being much cooler and draining way less battery so the cooling system and battery can be smaller and still outperform the competition.

Unpopular opinion: I actually liked the touchbar. It was very usually if u knew how to use it and I actually looked at it (not that it matters) as Apple MacBooks having a touchscreen. I wish they made a separate model with the touchbar maybe for the same price. Trust me it would sell more than the regular ones.

There was one still image where they showed an iPhone and MacBook and iPad and there was a picture of a girl playing guitar and there were chord diagrams below her showing how to play the chords and it look like a cool music app but I don’t know what it is. So they took away the Touch Bar which I happen to like but I get that some people don’t, then gave us a notch. Hmm, the only thing that I like is the chip set, and the more connectivity, despite that seemingly going against what seemed to be the future of connectivity to begin with. I do like the SD, hdmi, and I liked the magnetic power connector other than the fact that you could only plug in from one side whereas in my 2019 MBP, I can plug in from any of the C ports on either side. I was incredibly impressed with the 2018/19 pro for so many reasons but I just don’t see it here.
