Apple has in its product line up a new robot. Now the definition of a robot is loose but this is one step closer to the humanoid robot promised by Tesla and others.

Apple home hub would be the ideal device that consumers would be willing to buy. I don’t see me buying a robot anytime soon and an Apple robot definitely won’t be cheap.

Don’t underestimate the value of being able to multitask. If I am talking to someone on FaceTime and I am taking notes or doing some other task with my hands at the same time, I would pay to have the robot to follow me so that I can continue to use my hands without having to think about it and be interrupted.

@16:19 - that is NOT a giant robot. It's not a robot at all. It's a Remote Controlled machine. It's controlled by humans. If something is controlled by humans, then it's not a robot. A normal car is not a robot. A pogo stick is not a robot. That machine from Japan is not a robot. There is no "autonomy" in any of them. A military drone flying over the enemy is usually controlled by human pilots, so they aren't robots either, BUT they have an autonomous mode so that if they lose connection with their controllers they return to base autonomously. So they do have latent robotic capabilities. A self driving Tesla has some robotic abilities, BUT it still requires a human to be at the wheel and it FREQUENTLY passes control back to humans, so it barely qualifies to be a robot.

To me, a "robot" needs complete mobilization. It can follow me through the house or go get me a diet coke out of the fridge. If it can't do that, it's not a robot.

I’m betting it’s going to be some sort of home hub that can operate as a “personal private cloud compute” system. Terabytes of storage for some sort of personal iCloud? Maybe one of those custom silicon chips? Really lean into the whole fiber optically connected universe… just a thought

As for the table robot, I don’t think y’all are far off in your thinking. I don’t know about an arm, but I see it as more of an active smart home speaker. Instead of it having a built in screen, I think it may have an iPad screen build at the end of the arm that moves around. Instead of having to move the entire device around to use it, the arm will just reach out for you to use the screen. If you’re on a call, it will follow you around the room without you having to hold it or stand near it. For security, it can scan the room when you’re away, etc. last, thing, it can act as the home hub that connect to other devices. This is the only thing that makes sense off these current leaks. With that being said, don’t think that Apple is not working on an actual robot to compete the the Tesla one and all the others! You do not want to get too far behind in that space. Actually, don’t be surprised if they won’t just buy one of those smaller companies that already have one and continue to develop or just buy for the patents!

Although these might just be sarcastic jokes, and with that being said, I’m sorry, but it’s hard to take anyone seriously who defends Siri as being flawless and doesn’t acknowledge encountering mind-numbing issues like “ask me again later” or “you must unlock your iPhone first” (which are both disgraceful outputs.) A basic question to Siri on your HomePod should not result in Siri dodging your question by instead conducting a cheap Google search, and for that dumb search only being accessible from your iPhone to boot. It’s well known to anyone in this space that the weakest of all the home assistants is definitely Apple’s Siri.
