It’s because even with the pro phone I would say at least 50% of users have no desire to even use those high trans speeds and they’re probably just average Joe’s who charge their phone like a normal person so the box cable is gonna be just good enough for everyone, except for those people that want the high-speed and ultra fast charging. Unpopular opinion but if my theory is correct then its a smart business move on their part. My theory is that the number of people who actually use the iPhone to its full potential and really need those fast data transfer rates is probably a very small amount. While it might only cost them a few cents to dollars per cable more in the overall cost it ads up if they include the higher rate cable so if they think most users won't even need it and the small few that do typically will have third party accessories anyway then they opt to save the money. But I could be wrong. just my guess.

I believe it wasn't necessary for the cable to be included in the box as it's not the standard practice. However, it would have been a thoughtful addition. At the very least, they should offer a small grey or black cable with USB 3.0 to distinguish it from the white USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt.

Since we already have so many cables, I would expect apple to either ship no cable with the phone, or ship an USB3 cable, that's only because they are apple and they want to reduce e-waste. They are companies want to make money and differentiate iPhone 15 and pro lines, so I kind of understand, but in another way, I am not a big fan of this movement.

To be fair, Apple does label it a “Charge cable” everywhere, which to any “pro” user who would want USB 3 Data transfer speeds, should instantly alert them to the fact that they are not USB 3 speeds. “Pro” users who actually need USB 3 speeds would also already own USB 3 cables. So if anything, including a Charge cable in the box is fairly reasonable. To be honest, when it comes to a charging cable, I'm just looking for durability, charging speeds, and length. Even if I regularly transfer large files between my iPhone and computer (which I don't think many people are doing let's be real) I would just have a dedicated USB 3 cable ready to go SEPARATE from my daily charging cable. I can understand wanting just one cable for everything, but seeing as the Mophie cable is just $10, I don't see the upside in constantly unplugging my charger and plugging it into my computer when I need to do a file transfer. Not to mention the cable itself isn't even 2 meters which is a massive downside for a charger, limiting the range the phone can be used with as it's charging. The 19 inches I would lose can be the difference between having to use my phone on the edge of my bed to having it be positioned comfortably in front of me.

*the cable is 10 dollars more than the apple charging cable - if the cahrging cable is 30 dollars the thunderbolt is 40. No idea about the official price, just winging it, I’m not from the US.
