Having the power button on the back has it's downsides also. I have a MacStudio sitting on top of an old Mac mini and if the power goes out and I need to use the power button I have to reach across the desk and behind the thing to press the button, which I can't see. It's not the end of the world since that only happens once in a while. I have a button on my StreamDeck which turns off all the lights in the office and logs out of the Mac, then it goes into sleep mode 30 seconds later, no need to turn it all the way off. That being said, I noticed that the damn thing seems to wake up every 20 minutes or so, even if I turn off background activity, so maybe I should be turning it off more often.

The lack of USB ports is a major concern for me. I'm going to buy the M2 Mac Mini because having 6x USB ports in the back is very important for my workflow. They should have gotten rid of the HDMI and Ethernet and just given us 6x or 8x Thunderbolt ports. There are cheap, small adapters that can go from USB-C to HDMI or Ethernet. Having USB ports in the front is appreciated so you can plug in temporary devices but I don't want things plugged into the front permanently because it's ugly and inconvenient. And yeah, having the ability to connect a real pair of speakers is extremely important. The built in speakers in the 2018 Mac Mini (the one I have) suck royally and from what I understand the M2 isn't any better. I doubt the M4 has decent speakers otherwise Apple would be talking about them on their Mac Mini page. This thing is a major flop from my perspective. Now the only computers they sell with a decent port selection are the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro and I don't need that kind of CPU or GPU power.

Okay, for the sake of argument I'll agree with you that the power button is not in the worst place. My question is, though, why isn't it in a _better_ place? People _are_ still going to use it even if hibernation becomes the new standard because otherwise why would Apple include it if it was superfluous? And if, contrary to expectation, _more_ people are going to use it, why make it harder than necessary to access? My point is, they chose the worst of both worlds when even for a compromise there would have been better spots to put the dang button. Whatever, I'm just dropping my 2¢ out of pure curiosity because it seems to run counter to every UX design philosophy principle, and that baffles me.

I think Mac mini, the entire level model is always a great value, easy and cheap way to get into the Apple ecosystem, specially if you already had a PC hence you have the keyboard mouse etc for it which works and there is no reason to throw them away, however once you start upgrading the specs on that bad boy it start becoming less and less value for money but I think every Mac becomes less value for money as you start upgrading the specs

Drew. I am an Apple user. I am blind, for over fifteen years they made the only computers with free accessibility built in so I’ve owned over 10 macs, 5 iPhones, and multiple iPads. I also run a business. At the end of the day, the office computers get powered down for security. If it’s on over night, FileVault is effectively useless. I run Linux machines which draw less power than this that get the same treatment. I do not run windows. It’s also design which tells users how they should use the product. That’s just not flying with me these days, and it didn’t fly with anyone when Steve said you’re holding it wrong. Sorry but saying just keep it on is just no excuse for lousy design, and criticism of the products is only meant in the spirit that they should be doing better. Turn the internals upside down, put the power button as a touch sensor on top, that’d be cool and still mean it was easy enough to service.

My MacStudio is at the back of my desk and I have cables all managed so it's a pain for me to reach around my monitor and dock to hit a power button I can't see. Plus I store my trackpad and some sd cards and other clutter on top of the case. I could simply lift the mini and see the power button to hit it if need be, it's not really a big issue.

Sorry dude. The audio jack in the front is a no go. Monitor speakers suck, unless you shell out a fortune. Bluetooth quality for sound also kinda sucks, with a few exceptions. If you want decent audio, and you don't want to spend a fortune on a monitor with great speakers, or be limited to a few decent bluetooth audio options, you have to use the audio jack for your speakers. Also, to your point about using the built in audio in the monitor, it usually is inferior in quality to whatever the computer has.

They could've put the power button on the front, they literally have an power LED there. That could've been a button. So putting it on the bottom is a weird choice. Is it a dealbreaker? No. But it's weird and unnecessary.

Macs are notorious for freezing and crashing --INCLUDING all the new computers, and I GUARANTEE you this will be no different, oh and some of us don't WANT it to constantly update our software automatically, I friggin HATE UPDATES, they cause nothing but problems! So the power button IS and WILL BE necessary. But the bottom location doesn't bother me at all. what does bother me (a little) is lack of USB-A ports, even though I know they make cheap adapters, adapters through hubs can sometimes be dodgy and I don't like using Bluetooth and wireless for everything, Bluetooth is glitchy. Hubs are dodgy enough as they are. The added OS security firewalls making 3rd party apps and patches and older apps in general more difficult probably bothers me more, especially with Apple's increasingly AWFUL new OS's (they just get worse and worse) but thats another more complicated issue. Oh and no not all monitors have headphone jack inputs
