Hi there ! love your set up . Can you make a video or tell us how you connect your Tannoy monitors with your computer what kind of cable do you use ? i have no idea about wired monitors i only use bluetooth ones and im looking forward to buy those bad boys .

Thanks for the great video, very useful! What monitor light are you using in the video, and does it cover the camera/mic of the Apple Studio Display?

Thank you! It’s the BenQ ScreenBar Halo, it doesn’t cover the camera, when it comes to the microphone, I’m not 100% sure. There is a hole for the microphone at the back of the monitor and the monitor light doesn’t cover it, but the monitor light also sits right on top of the microphone location so it might affect the performance.

You can use apps like monitor control, or better display to control the brightness of the monitors from other makers, these apps allow you to use the keyboard brightness keys to adjust screen brightness.

They cannot adjust the backlight brightness, only make every colour on the screen closer to black. In other words they do not work. If you try setting the brightness down at night, the screen will still be very bright, but everything on it will be darkly coloured.

I've been researching monitors like crazy and I can't find anything that I like besides either the BenQ 32" PD3220U and the Apple Studio Display. I've researched Viewsonic, LG, Asus ProArt, Dell, Samsung, etc. and none of them seem that great. The benQ is 5 years old though and lacking brightness at 250 nits. I'm so use to the 2011 Apple Thunderbolt displays that I may not be happy with other monitors. The downfall to the Studio Display is the price and only 27 inch vs 32. Going to hold off for now though to see if BenQ updates their 32" or if Apple makes a new Display this Spring Event.

The real con for the Studio Display in my opinion is a fixed power cord. It should absolutely have a detachable and replaceable cable or extended cable should be a feature in a monitor this expensive as thats virtually equivalent to welding your power supply into your pc case. And if that cable gets damage its not friendly for the owner to repair it.

in over 20 years of my life using PC since CRT monitor, LCD, LED etc never once did i ever had to change my monitor cable.

Is it possible to use Apple Studio Monitor for music production (vocal recording)? Because somebody told about the fan noise.

Yes I see no problem with that, I record voice overs all the time close to the monitor, you can barely hear the fan noise unless you put your ears close to the monitor

Best to buy something like this from the apple refurbished store. Main reason, aside from the discount is that it will have been fully tested. That’s important for something like this - in my opinion, there’s nothing worse than unboxing something that has cost a lot of money, expecting it to be perfect, only to discover - once it’s set up that there’s a problem. I’ve just bought the M2 pro Mac mini and this will be next.

Is your lightbar blocking the camera?

You can adjust it so It doesn’t block the camera, in my case I use it to cover the camera when I’m not using.

1440 (non retina) still sucks compared with the 5K, but I'll wait for the next version of the Studio Display with MiniLED or something better than the actual.

1440p vs 5K, it’s a night and day difference. It might take a while until we see an update

The Apple Studio Display is a 5K monitor (5120x2880). And this screen resolution is always active for you, even if you choose a different interface size for yourself in the computer settings. Therefore, when he chose a preset with a lower resolution in the settings, he only changed the size of the working interface, but at the same time the monitor remained 5K and he still cannot see the pixels of the content.

Asus ProArt 27 PACRV, less than us$$500, better color coverage, works as well in Mac and PC. your $1500 ($1200 refurb) does not even cover adobeRGB and only works on Mac. No thank you.

The Asus ProArt is a good budget monitor for content creation but I prefer the Studio Display, better build quality, better compatibility with Mac, brighter display, 5K resolution, built in speakers and camera, better design and glossy panel. The Apple Studio Display does have a good coverage of AdobeRGB, I don’t know why you’re saying otherwise.

@@NilsonCreative aRGB coverage is about 88 percent. serious monitor manufactiuresr would not even quote that in the specs. if a monitor does not cover 95%+. it really cannot be trusted for serious work. but I am baised for photography. for video, your argument makes sense. what also bothers me, is apple decision to make it basically unuseable if you connect it to a PC. which other monitor manuf makes their screen dependent on their computres? do you see Dell making dell monitors that only work in dell computers? that is shameful for a company that pretends to care about ewaste.

@DanielRodriguez-fg5ll fair enough, if perfect AdobeRGB coverage was a must for what I do, the Studio Display wouldn’t be my first choice, I feel your frustration, unfortunately every company we choose there is a compromise and they all use tricks to keep you in their ecosystem.
