For me, as someone who’s been using VR headsets for years, I liked the hype around it because I thought it would result in an explosion of new VR apps and experiences for ALL vr headsets, but it hasn’t had any noticeable impact at all. Meta and the Quest 3 still seems to be the epicentre of all things VR at the moment, no one even talks about the Vision Pro at all anymore. Plus, they’ve taken way too long to launch it in other countries so people around the world who were eagerly anticipating it have lost interest.

I think the super high resolution screen, the controls and interface, and the extremely high quality pass through is what puts it into a different category than any other VR headset. That's not to say I think people should be paying the current price for the headset, or that I think it's currently worth it... but as a "vision" for the future, I think they're going down the right path, and a cheaper model that keeps the high quality screen and pass through will eventually be a big hit, especially if Apple invests in creating some high quality movies/tv/media that really utilizes the tech.

@@joelface that is about an 8k computer setup. It had better be absolutely amazing. 4k just on monitors seems … insane to me. You’d still run into fatigue issues though. Longer form videos take a long time to edit. And, most people who have them and enjoy them don’t like to wear them for more than an hour or two. That still feels like a pretty big problem. Channels like MKBHD have spoken about this at length. They have the Vision Pro. They have the MacBook pros. They still don’t use the Vision Pro to edit even with it in the room. Yeah? @@user-sz8ce8lg4f You're saying you wear your vision pro for 8 hours a day? One person mentioned the generic word productivity with no other details. Another person said they would edit video on theirs (I've not heard of ANYONE intentionally doing this). What kinds of software are even available on this to assist with your work? There's no real computing power. So, you're ... what ... using it for web browser interfaces for the software setups you use? I don't want to pry, but I'm trying to get an idea for the kind of work you do and what kind of impact the hardware would have on you. I'm a software engineer. The fundamental IDE I would need to write code doesn't exist for them. I could ... do web interface stuff for some of my work. Certainly email and slack. But, for real work this would just function as a $4,000 monitor set up for my macbook pro.

@@user-sz8ce8lg4f What do you do for work? One person vaguely said they "use it for productivity" but didn't specify. How many hours do you spend using this for work when you're using it for work? Literally every single video I've seen about it specifically says it's uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour or two. There also are minimal apps on it to actually get work done. So, the best use case for productivity is to use it as a $4,000 monitor for a separate macbook pro or whatever (which costs another 3k+). The channel 6 Months Later just released a video on it today. They also said it's not useful for productivity.

It's such a shame you can't choose and customize your persona to look exactly how you want it😡. Instead, it's just based on your real face. HUGE dealbreaker for people who are ugly like me and want to use VR as a way too escape that. The Meta Quest 3 on the other hand, allows you to choose everything about your appearance. You can be as hot and pretty of a girl as you want, which is pretty much the main reason I even use the Quest in the first place, ngl. While the Meta avatars do look a bit too cartoonist in my opinion, I still MUCH prefer them over the restrictive personas on the AVP

Got one, love the vision os -but I'm going to return the face brick!- (See update to my comment below and in reply) It's like a fancy looking brick on my face, vision os (Vision OS 2 even better) is great which is what these people are really talking about but I can't get immersed or remain immersed because of the weight of a brick on my face unless I get a nerdier headstrap like a halo. -So going to return it- until we get a vision air or vision pro 2 without some of the gimmicky tech like the front lcd display and hopefully using lighter materials. The battery brick and it's cable is annoying but I rather have an annoying brick in my pocket then on my head! So I'm ok with that surprisingly. UPDATE: So a few days ago I made myself a modded head strap out of velcro cable ties, just to help support the weight while still using the solo strap, the self made velcro strap is kind of hidden on my head because of my hair and the weight distribution has been great. So good that I'm now split and I'm leaning towards keeping the headset. I should point out it's still heavy but it's all about weight distribution, one thing that made me realise that Vision Pro is not so bad was a review I saw by Upload VR for the new upcoming Varjo headset that weights about twice as much as the Vision Pro but apparently with the provided headstrap that comes with the headset the weight is so well distributed that he could hardly tell the weight. @@alexbroskin5120I’m a software engineer. I have friends who ONLY work in AR and VR space. No one uses stuff like this for work. You go to their offices and it’s a room of engineers with stacks of various devices (this included) and they work on normal monitors like normal people. They put on devices when they need to test things. People are NOT using these for 8 hour work days. It’s not comfortable enough. The weight is awkward and it’s heavy on the head. It’s also not got the specs to be used for a lot of types of software development. It’s more of an iPad on your face than an upspec MacBook Pro. So, it isn’t like you’re going to spin up multiple virtual environments to build a database, a server, a front end each running different code on a virtual machine environment while separately you have another stable environment to handle other work all being handled by the hardware (which works fine on a MacBook Pro once you upspec it). No one is using this to really edit content. You’ve seen the MKBHD videos where he talks about it. MKBHD isn’t going to be editing video content on one of these. Just like he doesn’t do it on an iPad Pro. It’s POSSIBLE, but if you have 4k for this you also have a real computer which will be faster. It’s a fantastic proof of concept. The tech will be better in 20 years. These people are fanatics and bought it because they’re early adopters (they would have bought anything) and they’re just happy with their little toy. It’s NOT for productivity. Most people who talk about it find it hard to wear for a full movie, and certainly can’t wear it to binge watch a series for more than 1-2 episodes. And THAT is the biggest use people have for it. People LOVE it for watching media … but only for short durations.

@@V21bhthose people are just desperately trying to justify their purchase. I’m a software engineer. I meet a lot of early tech adopters who are hopelessly trapped in a product and trying to justify it. It’s NOT useful for productivity because it’s so uncomfortable. Someone said they use it to edit videos … except vision OS is garbage. So, what they really do is use it like a $4,000 monitor for their $3,000 laptop. Except they also run into comfort problems if the edit goes longer than an hour or two. This was a hideously biased video. Lots of channels are doing 6 month reviews right now. I don’t doubt that these people all wished what they were saying was true. Pretty universally the only thing people REALLY use this for is watching an hour or two of TV or a movie and then taking it off due to discomfort.

Mostly hype and would be a waste of money for most people. Apple has a huge base that just wants something that is easy to use and simple, this is not that and probably will never be.

Haha what… The Vision Pro is SO simple. You just pinch to select things lol… Doesn’t get much more natural than that.

The Meta Quest 3 is leaps and bounds better than the Vision Pro for much cheaper in my opinion.

It really isn’t a gimmick… It can do myriad of things both for work and play and is an incredible experience. If you live near an Apple store, I would definitely recommend doing a demo of it.
