I made this and it came out so good. For the caramel I added two tablespoons of milk instead of heavy cream, but it turned out perfectly. I also used cake flour instead of AP flour, and the cake turned out great.

Wonderful combination of apple, walnut and caramel. I tried the caramel sauce from your recipe for drip glaze topping on my chocolate coffee cake for my daughter's birthday today and it came out so perfect that the 9 inch cake was over in no time. Mona Mon omg, I made a slightly different icing because I didn’t have that caramel sauce, but the cake omg, absolutely amazing, not too sweet so the caramel provides a great balance. The whole family loved it, from eldest to youngest👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Wont be a butter cream anymore if u replace it ;)

butter has a higher fat content than whipping cream so the result with be quite different. I would make a whipped ganache if you would like to use heavy cream. Hope this was helpful!

you can make you own dulce de leche with sweetened condensed milk. place it in the oven at 300F with aluminum foil on top and it will slowly caramelize. I hope this was helpful!
