I've just owned and used both for the past 6 months. It's really close between the two, really. However the battery life has won me over and have chosen to go with the Garmin. The smatwatch features of the Apple are really useful and I like how their UI is overall. But as you say, what matters is if you want a health/fitness first device or a smartphoen first device.

Great review Dez! As a iPhone user in the process to choose my first smartwatch I just ended between the Venu 2 and the Series 6. This video helped me a lot in decision making! Finally I chose the Venu 2 since I focus more on fitness and health data accuracy and not on having a small iPhone on my wrist. On the contrary I want to throw my phone away during trainings and workouts and I'm looking forward to have some undisturbed quality time in the gym or outdoors. Your help is highly appreciated - Thanks ❤️

Great review! I would want to give my cons as a normal consumer that has the 2 devices for all the fellas interested: So here are the cons: 1. Garmin - I hate the cheap vibration of the device. - Hate the cheap feel when you press the buttons - Hate the responsiveness of the touch - Hate how fluid the UI is, could be more smoother - Hate how it manages the notifications, with an Apple Watch if I get a notification and I’m using my iphone then the Apple Watch won’t do anything because he knows I saw the notification on the phone but if I’m not using my iphone then I will nicely vibrate and actually need to twist the wrist in order to actually see the notification (good privacy) and my phone screen will keep powered off and no vibration but with garmin it will vibrate and show the notification no matter what (0 privacy from my perspective) and it is extremely annoying to have it vibrate on both garmin and iphone. For those using Summary Notifications on iphone, garmin doesn’t care about this and it will vibrate and show all the notifications and no matter which ones do you have silenced. - Hate how difficult is to change the volume while you are listening music. I use AirPods to listen with the garmin and in order to change the volume I need to make like 4 steps in order to change this, AW in the other hand I just need to swipe right and use the crown accordingly (extremely convenient) 2. AW - Battery, I was one of the guys that said at first I don’t mind charging my Apple Watch every night but after I use the garmin and charger it like every 5-8 days then charging the AW every day became very annoying lol - I understood when people said it wasn’t a fitness tracker. Sure it Will count your calories and exercise minutes but Garmin give you so much data like you Stress level, body battery, sleep score, your respiration rate per minute while active and sleeping, etc! and with the nice interface of the app you can see how it changes overtime which is great and nothing like this exits in the Apple Watch or at least not native, I installed 3rd parties app to try and have the info but it was extremely annoying to jump from 1 app to another and gave up after a while. - Listening to music with AirPods lol. This is something we’re Garmin wins. When I go for a run with the Apple Watch and usually plug the AirPods in my ears before leaving the house and the automatically pair with my iphone so when I leave the house and AirPods and AW loses connectivity with the phone they usually go crazy and is a pain in the behind trying to pair them, I’m not lying saying that I waste like 5min trying to get them paired. This can be avoid I know but from my perspective is something that should work flawlessly and with Garmin it the AirPods Pro work flawlessly I’m very picky I know. If you have any question for me I’m happy to answer them as well

Another great review. I am getting my Venu 2 on Thursday and look forward to owning another Garmin after previous disappointments with Galaxy Watch (battery life) and Fitbit (buggy). Apple seems to be on point with quality and features but let's face it, it's for people who live in the Apple sphere. For us Android people, Apple is not appealing (imo). And with Galaxy and Apple, why on Earth can't they figure out how to get more than a day or 2 of battery life?? I don't get that. The Venu at over a week battery life is amazing. By the way, I'm wondering who the 1 person was who disliked this video? Boo hoo! Keep up the excellent work!

great review. the only additional piece I'd highlight around battery life: I find that I (And any of my friends) doing long-duration activities outdoors (even 3+ hours), we always bring our phone with us (in event of an accident, issue, etc.). In this case, the GPS is offloaded to the phone and longer battery life can be found. Really makes a difference and always surprised it's never mentioned much.

Great Video Des! I bought a Venu 2 after watching your video, but I don't know if the Venu 2 is overestimating my daily calories count. I have been a Fitbit user for many years, and normally my Fitbit tells me I burn about 2700 calories per day on a regular basis. But with the Venu, it tells me I burn 4000 calories per day. I really doubt it so I wear both of them, with the Fitbit on my left hand and the Garmin on my right hand, and there is still a huge difference in the calories count (2700 vs 4000).
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty big difference. Tell me, for that sort of day, what sort of activities are you doing? Thanks!
@zhenhuanhuang97493 жыл бұрын
@@DesFit On a 2700 Cal day, I normally don’t do anything but sitting by my desk for the entire day, and I typically walk 3000 steps on this kind of day. Sometimes I go outside for a 1-hour run, and both Fitbit and Garmin tell me I burn about 700 Cal in a run. But when I run, my daily calories count on Fitbit would be 3500 Cal while It’s 5500 Cal on Garmin. I think the calories count is accurate when I am exercising. However, when I am sitting by my desk, I can see that my calories count on Garmin is rising crazily. When I am working on my desk, my heart rate varies from 90-110 bpm, and I think Garmin might have thought that I am exercising.

Hi Des, great vid as usual. One thing that came to my mind, which could be interesting to compare is the availability of safety features. I can't recall the name, but I remember Apple has something similar to Garmin livetrack, and I'm not sure if they do accident detection. Just testing those features would make for a hilarious video on their own :-D
@peterullinger28143 жыл бұрын
1.) Apple has a Friends app that allows you to set several contacts to be able to request your location is case something´s up. You then get a prompt and deny the request if everything is alright. I have set my brother and my girlfriend just in case. 2.) Apple watches also have a well working incident detection even outside of activities, in contrast to Garmins which "only" do them during activities.
@MateHegyhati3 жыл бұрын
@@peterullinger2814 Thanks for the info, much appreciated. If I understand correctly, for 1) a difference is, that for Garmin the user decides to share it, then it is continuous, and for Apple, it is an on-demand service initiated from the other side. Interesting how they approach this differently. For 2) yeah, interesting, I don't know why Garmin doesn't do that outside of activities. I don't think it would drain the battery that much. At least it could be an option like PulseOx during sleep. Anyhow, thanks again!

It won’t give any meaningful distance data but it will still track your heart rate. You could try another outdoor profile to attempt to track distance but watches need to be optimized for open water swimming when it comes to GPS as it’s the hardest type of activity for GPS to track accurately.

Hello Dez, between Venu 2, Series 6, Galaxy Watch 3 which one you will rate best to good for normal fitness user in terms of GPS and Heart Rate accuracy?
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
Can’t recommend the Galaxy Watch. I’d check out my review on it. Venu 2 has slightly better GPS, Series 6 has slightly better HR. Honestly you’d do fine with either for GPS/HR accuracy. I’d weigh your preference on battery life va smartwatch functionality with an iPhone.

I am between 3 watches after watching videos for all. I am between the garmin venu 2, the Samsung galaxy watch 4 classic and the tickwatch 3 Pro. I would buy the Samsung with no questions asked, but the lack of good battery life is a bumper! Which watch would you recommend, the garmin venu 2 or tickwatch 3pro, for an android phone?

Does garmin venu 2S has calling feature itself or bluetooth call receiving by mobilephone
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
You can decline or pick up a call from the watch, but you’ll speak through the phone (or Bluetooth headphones connected to the phone).

Hi! Would you consider reviewing the performance of the galaxy watch 4 in terms of heart rate, gps accuracy, ...? I would love to be able to have a watch that has smart features like the apple watch, but for android, that is also a good fitness tracker and your reviews are really insightfull for that!

I just love this channel! does anyone know where to find information on using the Apple Watch as a phone replacement when using Edge cycling computers? especially regarding live tracking, not transfering health data. I would like to leave the phone at home in the summertime :)

Hi. nice video comparing both watches. It would be helpful if you could make one video with the differences among Garmin Forerunner models (better if it's FR 245) and the Garmin Venu 2/2s

Would the Venu 2 be the best watch for Mountain Biking ? I do have an iPhone for the Apple Watch tho
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest something with physical buttons for mountain biking since touchscreens are challenging to use with gloves.

Hey Des, thanks for the video! I got an Apple watch s6 and it's great. I'd like to see what apps you have for fitness and any other tips. Think about that for your next video perhaps?

Can the venu 2 connect with external heart rate sensors?
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
Yup!
@gorkan3 жыл бұрын
For me, the ability to pair bike sensors is an important feature in a fitness watch. It would be great if you include that in your comparison videos
@RickBroekhuizen3 жыл бұрын
Venu 1 works with bikesensors, as far as I know apple does not.
@gorkan3 жыл бұрын
@@RickBroekhuizen almost all garmin watches can connect to speed/cadence sensors and some higher end ones also connect to power meters. But I guess apple watch only pairs with bluetooth hr sensors
