Well done dude. Recently got the Apple Watch 8 for my wife. Spending 2 days trying it out, the battery life was awful, the fitness/sleep data was good but locked down to Apple Health apps, and the interface was super flexible, but very cluttered. I ended up buying the Venu SQ2 today. The extra battery life will be well worth the losing the EKG, and Dick Tracy phone watch ability. So for what it's worth the Apple Watch 8 / SQ2 seem to remain a similar comparison with your Apple SE / SQ review.

Not being able to play Spotify on a run with Apple without cellular data is a deal breaker. If i need to bring my cell phone on a run I don't need a "smart watch". The whole point is to leave the phone and wallet in the car so u can run in comfort. Not many people will pay an extra $70/mo for a second data plan so they can stream music over cellular on a smart watch while running. You would need a second data plan with minimum 20GB/mo... That's like $70-120/mo on top of your reg cell phone plan. Garmin seems OK with 1 huge flaw...2 to 3hr battery with GPS, heart rate, music, and Bluetooth.
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
It's strange that Apple took this feature away. Hopefully they get enough complaints and allow it to come back!
@exy26333 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseTheSummit Yes, perhaps they will listen... All good smart watches support offline music mode now. People only want 4 features. 1) accurate calorie count based on heart rate and gps 2) offline music from Spotify and like 3) payment service via NFC 4) Battery to last all day...with 2hr exercise and music included Other features are extras. Imo any smart watch that doesn't have that in 2021 should auto fail in any review. Perhaps I'm harsh :) but tbh I really don't think so. Features like rep counting are ridiculous. I even think sleep tracking is questionable. I'm pretty sure I know if I slept well or not. I don't need a watch to tell me how much energy I have. My body has its own built in sensors evolved over millions of years for all that. These watches should focus on getting the minimum right...because they can barely do that. Anyway, nice review. I'm just surprised how hard it is to get a watch under $600 that can meet those minimum standards.

Wish I had found this before I made my selection just for the information being so condensed and comprehensive. I bought the Garmen SQ music version it's $100 off right now so how can you go wrong? I love that it looks like you might have an Apple watch on because of the square face but it would be nice to have the voice feature and ability to tell it to set appointments appointments for instance. But I can do that using the hey Google feature on my Android and the Garmin will give me notifications. Battery life is very good and it charges fast. I put my own photo on the watch face. Yep, hard to include every little detail in a short video! Having an altimeter is really only useful if you like to look at your current elevation during an activity. I'm sure you didn't change tracking mode from smart to per second. It happen to me so the gps and heart rate accuracy is off. And not mention, garmin have ANT feature, which can connect to external sensor such as heart rate strap, shoes sensor, cadence sensor, speed sensor, compass, etc
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! The difference between "Smart" and 1 second recording is negligible for the most part. In some cases "smart" is actually more accurate because it eliminates erroneous data points when standing still or moving slowly from GPS drift. "Smart" recording actually does sample your location ever 1-second it just filters out data points that are too close together to be considered relevant. The "smart" recording setting has no effect on Heartrate recording. That will always be 1-second during an activity. ANT+ is a nice feature for some accessories for sure! These days Bluetooth seems to be more prominent but ANT+ is certainly nicer for older accessories. Thanks for watching.
@TomyAlmaArif3 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseTheSummit have you ever tried or just read the documentation? It's not so many different if you just using for running. But if you use for cycling (or by car) it's have huge effect And ANT+ is not for older accessories. It's different with Bluetooth which the Bluetooth only have one receiver, ANT+ can broadcasted several receiver at a time. For example the speed and cadence sensor at bicycle can broadcasted to cyclo comp and garmin watch simultaneously. That's why ANT+ protocol use for fitness or sport accessories until now and not replaced with Bluetooth

Thanks for the thorough comparison. Have you tried both watches in climbing indoors? If so, could you tell me how your experience was?
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
I can't say I've climbed with them. The Apple Watch does have some interesting apps like "Pinnacle" for indoor/outdoor rock climbing though. I'd invest in a screen proctor or a case if you plan on climbing with either of these as they'll undoubtably get damaged during a climb.

Great review Dave! I think Apple’s SE is actually a really compelling offer at that price. But I think this review will help a lot of people realize that the Venue SQ is actually a decently competitive option in comparison. For me personally, I don’t think I’d ever purchase a watch that has raise to wake. 🤮
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
Ha! Yeah, it's an adjustment not having the always on display but these two are some of the best. They wake quite quickly to where it's almost not an issue. I still prefer my Fenix though!

i am watching this video on my ipad mini (my only apple device) and i wonder if you are aware, that the "become a member" button wich is pretty apparent on my android phone and windows pc, is completely missing? is that a known or "wanted" issue/feature?
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
That's really weird! It should be shown on all devices. In either case... I appreciate the support Marius!

@@ChaseTheSummit i was thinking about supporting one of my favorite channels for a while now. you have a more "down to earth" fee than most other youtubers. also is your channel the "smallest" on my list that actually offers a membership. keep up the interesting content so my icon may turn red one day! cheers!

Can u please do a comparison between Samsung galaxy watch 3 and venu sq music? I have Samsung phone s21 ultra and I mainly do workout in the gym such as weight lifting , hiit cardio , metabolic workout etc, I don’t do much outdooor workout; so which would u recommend ?is there a big difference between the heart rate accuracy comparing garmin with Samsung ??
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
That would be interesting. Unfortunately I don't have a galaxy watch right now. Thanks for watching!
@lw52173 жыл бұрын
I would not go for Samsung. I used to have it. Its a smartwatch not a quasi-smart&sportwatch. Moreover it doesn't count calories based on your heart rate what is unbelievable.

Can you use spotify without your phone on the garmin sq if you do not have a paid membership with spotify?
@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
I believe you need the paid membership with Spotify. There are free options that you can download though.

It's certainly not cheap but it's got quite a bit of features!

Both of these would do the job. I'd also check out the newer Garmin Venu 2 as it has a lot more features.

How is the music quality on venu sq? And how does it compares to watch active 2 and galaxy watch 3?
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
Quality? It sounds as good as any other bluetooth audio player. You'll get the same audio experience as something like an iphone or laptop. Hope that helps!
