I'm just trying to picture a kid calling the cops to report a stolen phone.

No. I would never ever go for this. I would rather have my phone stolen and my stuff in the hands of thieves than have Apple collecting information on me. Every time I hand my phone to someone to show them something the camera does face recognition and runs it through a database to collect information about who I associate with. Or captures their fingerprint and picture so it can help compile a database on people who haven't been fingerprinted. Then add on the new iOS 10 photo album "People" software and upload that info to a server and start matching up faces and data about people. This kind of thing is horrible. And though I have a large degree of faith in the unfailing stupidity of the American public, it's astounding to think they could "buy it" that this is really a convenience feature to benefit them.

There has been no study to suggest that every fingerprint is unique. So you could end up arresting a man over a "fingerprint" even though the way the police compare fingerprints is unreliable. It's also been shown that fingerprint analysts can unconsciously change their evaluations depending on the details of the case.

I would certainly opt in to this feature :) I would like it to only be sent to the police if I ask it to send it to the police, I wouldn't like me and my peoples' data being sent around to the police randomly,especially mic and face data, but its certainly a good feature to have.

I agree with lost mode, but not multiple failed attempts. I have a friend who like to mess with me and lock up my phone for 1 minute by typing random letters when entering my password. He once did it until I was locked out for an hour because he thinks he's funny.
@ImpaKtZero8 жыл бұрын
then he might find a police warrant like a good joke
@Sonicrush0078 жыл бұрын
ImpaKtZero He will challenge anything. (Sorry for making a whole story about this) Last year, I had Siri available on the lock screen which was there by default until my friend started to have this extremely stupid addiction to taking my phone and saying "9/11" to it which Siri thinks you are saying 911 and Siri starts to call 911 within 5 seconds until you press cancel and he would press cancel at one second ON PURPOSE!!! He is a complete idiot!!! One time he failed to press cancel and tossed my phone to me and I cancelled the call. But I totally forgot that once your phone hangs up on 911, it doesn't disconnect at all. So they called back and I had to explain to the police over the phone that I "accidentally called them". I changed the settings on my phone so Siri doesn't work on my lock screen. But he told me not to. I told him that I don't trust him with my phone because I know he will keep doing that. So yes, my friend doesn't care if the police is involved, he does it no matter what. When I come to think of it, I don't know if I should call him a friend anymore because I stopped hanging out with him. I actually blocked all of his numbers because he keeps FaceTiming me at 1 am at night and I always tell him to stop that and that it is weird. Plus I have family around and that is annoying that he has to wake them up.

@LachezarTerziyski8 жыл бұрын
Not an iPhone User, but this is a huge privacy risk - transmitting your biometric data to any server, including government or police is still risky and cannot be truly 100% secured... (and of course it will higly raise the interest in people with bad intentions to hack those servers) The original idea (I think) of the fingerprints was to store it securely only on the device and additionally limit the access to it from 3rd party apps, which is let's say "acceptable", but this... no...

Maybe they should make it that you have to claim the phone stolen on "Find my iPhone". Only then would it start capturing info.
@AntiqueAntarctica8 жыл бұрын
This is a bad idea. With all this info being recorded someone will figure out a way get into where the information is being stored. So they will possibly have access to all of apple's mobile products. Someone is bound to get a hold of this info and release all of it onto some forum. Now everyone has access to everyone else's information.

@janekmuric8 жыл бұрын
Not really. There are ways of being completely anonymous on the internet. Open source software: use Ubuntu, use OpenPGP, use Tor, use Firefox, get a Nexus phone and compile your rom with strictly open source apps, don't post any currently not available personal info on the internet, force SSL, use open source encrypted chat/calling programs/apps The reason many people don't use them is because they might not know they exist, or simply don't think putting in so much effort is worth the annonymity.
@sarukun12288 жыл бұрын
Jan Murić When you order a pizza, that company later sells your address and phone number. Even if you can remain anonymous on the internet, your information is being given out somewhere.
@janekmuric8 жыл бұрын
Sori Fierce Well... no. Nobody said that you have to give any other info to the pizzeria (or anyone else for that matter). Without having any other info associated with the adress it is completely worthless. For example lets say a pizzeria sells me the adress 8687 Devonshire St. Kansas City, MO 64151. What do I do with it? Look it up on Google maps? Then what? Maybe go there? Not to mention that you don't have to give your adress. You can pick it up. If you're wondering there's nothing special at that adress. It was generated with an online random adress generator.
@janekmuric8 жыл бұрын
Sori Fierce Also of course that if you're famous or rich someone will likely recognise you at your property and leak your adress. But if you are either of those you probably have the proper security in place.
@sarukun12288 жыл бұрын
Jan Murić I don't see why an individual would purchase an address, but companies bulk purchase information all the time for advertising purposes.
