Been a line cook for 10 years. 6 months of that time at Applebee's. Sure, they use microwaves more than any other place I've worked, but I also haven't worked at place where veggies, desserts, and some sauces weren't microwaved. I never once at Applebee's saw chicken, burgers, or steak going into the microwave to raise the temp or something. Not saying it doesn't happen, but the "Applebee's only uses microwaves" stereotype is a little played out. And finally, it was by far my worst job EVER!

I have two questions: why do Applebees call main courses 'entrees' . This word is originally French and it means 'starter course' (appetiser). They just plain got it wrong there. Also, why do wait staff at Applebees bring you the check without asking?

Because instead of asking… the customer shouldn’t be expecting to sit and lounge for another 30 minutes after eating while there is a waitlist of 15 people waiting to be sat… But you’re over here taking up space because you haven’t told your server that you all are done and need your bill

@@malachijones705 Aha.....so it's about processing the customer as quickly as possible. I understand that time is money but this really wouldn't work elsewhere in the world. The customer is a guest, not an inconvenience to be ejected from the system as soon as possible- that would be my take.
