The enhanced versions were always a tough sale for this reason. Either you bought the originals and then don’t have much reason to buy a fully priced enhanced version of the game you already played, or you purposefully waited for the enhanced version but you don’t even know if it’s coming or not. Plenty of people avoided buying XY because they wanted to wait for Pokémon Z, but it never came

Emerald and Platinum, despite being considered two of the best games in the entire franchise, didn't sell particularly well because players and critics didn't feel there were enough changes to R/S and D/P to warrant paying full price for a new game. That's probably why Gamefreak stopped selling a third "definitive edition" game for each generation. We all remember them as masterpieces however, because A.) They WERE masterpieces, and B.) We have emulators now and can play said masterpieces for free.

Short and sweet answer: The definition of “faithful remake” was so *EXTREMELY* taken to heart in their production that they didn’t fix the original bugs and glitches Diamond and Pearl had and left them in. They also left in the obnoxious Gym that required math solving skills to progress that Platinum removed completely. Oh, and the Game Corner didn’t come back in the same capacity. No Battle Frontier as well, I think.

Black/White are really flawed, but the story and characters are really charming. Maybe not the most replayable game, but definitely worth a playthrough. Black 2/White 2 on the other hand went a little lighter on the story but in return pretty much fixed every single flaw present in Black/white and added some really great long-term content with the PWT and Black Tower/White Treehollow. To this day i consider Black 2/White 2 the most repayable games that don't feel aged at all

The majority of people who bought Diamond or Pearl either were kids who couldn’t convince their parents to buy what was “basically just a copy of the game they already owned,” or adults who couldn’t convince themselves the same thing… Especially when games are always so disproportionately expensive

I mean... if you think about it, it makes sense why Crystal, Emerald and Platinum were the worst selling games. It's not that they were bad or anything. They just didn't sell well, because when they came out, most people already had the previous version of those games, so buying another version that didn't actually add that much compared to the original was just not worth the price for most people. They're still the definitive versions of generations 2,3 and 4 though, and definitely the best way to play them. There's a good reason, why they cost a small fortune in online markets now.

That Darkrai brought back memories!! I had a Darkrai that I used against my friends that was unbeatable!! It was so insanely fast that I would put them to sleep immediately then throw on a nightmare and watch their life slowly seep away. I used to play Pokemon when they originally came out, I had yellow green and red. Then I got hit with adulthood and I didn't play anymore. Then at a pawn shop about 3 years ago I found an old Nintendo color and it had a couple of games with it with Pokemon Black2 included. I bought it then for my youngest kid. He prefered to use his tablet instead, so I grabbed it and I didn't let go about 6 months ago. This game is so nostalgic and it's freaking awesome.

White 2 was the first game I ever played. Recently I've started putting together a living dex (going well btw) and replayed it, getting a shiny starter, oshawott, which happens to be my favourite starter and one of my favourite pokemon ever. This was my first ever full odds shiny, followed by a karrablast I randomly found and a much more recent pokemon legends arceus wurmple I randomly found. For anyone wondering, my first shiny was a tailow I found in ultra space

Ah it makes sense. I stopped playing after gen 3 then came back to Pokemon many years later after X/Y due to mega evolutions. My favorite is Pokemon Silver.

I don’t think they’re purposefully making games with issues. I’ll agree they’re maybe changing some things about the series for cost-cutting or ease of production, but I doubt they’re doing things like the Scarlet/Violet memory leak on purpose

I'm kind of partial to Gen II: Gold and Silver. Getting two entire regions crammed onto one cartridge is truly impressive. Nowadays, the Kanto region would probably be DLC for a Gold/Silver/Crystal remake.

I loved Platinum, it was so sick, that was the first time I got a shinny pokemon it was a Green Zubat hahaha still I remember vividly how I stumbled upon him. Also Giratina was so cool at least when it was in its flying form, not the one with the chunky legs haha

I still pray and wish for a world where Nintendo gives Gamefreak enough money and time to give us a truly, fulfilling game like Platinum BUT just 1 release from the get go, all the Crystal/Emerald/Platinum stuff in the first release of this new gen. Platinum is such a good game! I played it in an emulator a while ago and I can't remember how much time of my life I spent in it! Approximately 500 hours, I guess. The Team Galactic arc was good, and the Spear Pillar was also perfect! It probably didn't sell well because people had already bought D/P which took like an eternity to deplete health and there weren't many changes from D/P to Pt. Although, Pt introduced a lot of new generation things.

Pokemon Y was my favorite for a few reasons The reason for the bad guys was something i could agree with Froakie ( i will not say anymore about him) The story was one that was few and far between. From the king being obsessed with a pokemon to then trying to bring it back to learning what he did was wrong and accepting it. All the way to meeting tierno and helping him with shauna and serena. And at last the music. I loved the music
