In my last video on mental health, I received an overwhelming number of persuasive comments saying that Applejack is a workaholic. So I decided to do an investigative analysis to check the validity of these claims while conveying what I found about Workaholism. So lets have a positive discussion on mental health and Applejack’s work ethic. Remember: this video is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

I've only seen her 'take breaks' when her friends drag her away from farm work. And you have Grannysmith who Applejack worries over even when Granny scolds her for it.

Decembirth Thank you for commenting. I definitely agree with you that AppleJack definitely is a worrywart about her family’s safety. I always thought that most of the time she willingly drops her work to help a friend in need. I am sure there are instances were she had to be wrangling to leave her farm.

It's possible she simply hides her anxieties, she's admitted to 'crying on the inside', so it's possible she does really do work because of her anxieties. And don't forget about the ep where she was supposed to relax with rarity-- It's hard to say with her, when someone hides emotions it's hard to really place a label on them.

So, uh.. TL,DR for the long bit below: I don't think Apple Jack has a "disorder" per se, but I do think she has some abandonment issues that she still (on occasion) has moments of relapses of. I do, however, believe that she's fought against it enough to where she deals with the fears associated with it a healthy manner for the majority of the time we've seen her. I believe her seemingly "workaholic" apple bucking might've just been her way to deal with trauma to prevent developing other negative coping mechanisms. Though, this became a problem when Big Macintosh was injured, it became an issue- the coping method also became a trap that shot her momentarily into a relapse, but was brought out of it by her support group (friends) -- - LONG PART: feel free to skip unless really interested XD In "Tanks for the Memories" it was stated that she only "cried on the inside." This isn't something uncommon in those who have suffered trauma, and losing your parents is traumatic at any age, and that alone can cause a lot of mental and emotional damage that may never go away. [quick off note: even if a parent's there physically, a child can still develop abandonment issues (i.e. see "emotional neglect")] Apple Jack seems to have a more "bottle it, keep it in" take when it comes to emotions, though she seems to release the. (I'll get to this later) I do believe that she has abandonment issues, but they are very healthily been dealt with for 98-99% of the time we've seen her in the show. BUT, at one point it was something she had to battle- at one point of her life she even moved out and pulling away from her family in Ponyville to move to Manehatten to find herself. Many with abandonment issues fall victim to pulling away from loved ones- or those who show kindess, even if they don't recognise it as abdonment issues at the time. And, on another front I really do feel she had a long struggle of finding herself and how to release her emotions- potentially growing her "stubborn streak" as a way she coped with the loss/internal stress. When in any uncertain situation, in general, people feel better when they're in control of something, and this can at times push off into thoughts/opinions. When in a terrifying situation are you are given a job, focusing on that job calms you down. Think about that old, "count the seconds between seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder to see how far it is." line. There's a reason it works. Now if you translate it to traumatic experiences, you don't exactly have lighting storm to count, what you do have are things you have around you. For Applejack, that was being stubborn in her opinions and actions. (Going to reiterate here that I 110% agree with what you said in the previous video: Stubbornness Is NOT a disorder!!! but it can appear as a side effect caused by one or emotional turmoil) So, with the above I do believe she had to heal emotionally/mentally--- AND yes, I am aware some people may bring up the question on if she was "too young to remember." But, that's the thing. What happens before our memories really begin to "exist" is still there, just not consciously. That reason on it's own can explain why a lot of people don't know what's going on with them until they come across it. Search up C-PTSD and/or abandonment issues, a lot of the symptoms that appear can seem from no where- especially from yourself. For one example: You feel a twinge that your friend might not be enjoying spending time with you like they did last time you were together? OR, are they not replying as fast as usual? Then you have a HUGE compulsion to give a BIG gift, whether you're treating them out to a nice dinner place, or an all-expenses-paid-by-you night out to the movies! The above bit is not uncommon with abandonment issues, which I've learned through a friend that happened simply because her parents weren't emotionally around. This lead to years of grief and turmoil, not knowing the cause of it, or even that it was related to anything "bad." To her, her family life was good. She went to a therapist for something else and the therapist spotted it and has helped her gain control over those compulsions and to release things healthfully. The difference in Apple Jack is that she might have known (or was told at some point) about her parents, so she had to deal with those emotions when they came, which personally I don't think she's all the way there if she never cries at all or lets it out in any form (even when alone at night)) bottling it up only works for so long. (trust me on this) Think about what Fluttershy said in the same episode that Rainbow Dash won't feel better until she lets it out. Yes, different character circumstances and backstory but it still remains- Apple Jack needs a way to release this. Which, I believe would be apple bucking!! So uh- It's been an hour since I began writing this and I need to head off but uh- if anyone has questions on this theory or just observation, or just wants to put in something about it please do! I'll get back to you- promise!

Great Analysis! I just wanted to ask how do you think the episode Going to Seed ties in with AJ's work ethic, you know, not having helped with the confluence while "wasting her time" looking for the Great Seedling, making her think she should stop doing childish stuff and focus on helping her family at work, maturing prematurely, and stuff? Also from the fact that her parents were still alive or not missing at that time, and shortly after they died/disappeared, do you think this might have made the memory of having spent time hunting the Great Seedling, without helping her family, a greater trauma, and emphasizing her hard work trait?
