For the LG, you can change the softener to detergent on some models

One possible negative. If you don’t use the machine for long periods (second home, etc) or if the machine has to be moved for whatever reason, the detergent is just sitting in the reservoir.

Yes, they are! Whirlpool and GE both offer top-load options. You can find those units on our site below. As far as we can tell, LG doesn't have a top-load version yet. That being said, if they release one, we'd love to do a video on it! Not a top loader, mine is a front loader and dispensers are at the bottom

These auto soap dispensers are awful in my opinion. There is always soap stuck in the line and on the back of the valve so it's constantly putting soap into the machine and even after the final spin cycle there will still be suds in the rubber seal on the front even when you run it on a cycle with just water their there will still be watered soap. It never fully rinses out the clothes for that reason and it's also bad for your machine to use too much soap. If you're buying it for this reason then I wouldn't buy it
