I bought my SPANNER WRENCH from Appliance Parts Pro - it was delivered in 2 days with standard delivery! This video was awesome and thankfully, comprehensive. I would not otherwise have known how to remove the spanner nut and inner basket. I took my 26+ year-old machine apart to scrub out all the soap scum and mildew that was getting pretty smelly. So far everything is working well after the reassembly! Thanks APP!

Just took mine apart and was amazed at how much debris was on the bottom of the plastic tub and lining the outside of the stainless steel tub. My washer was intermittenlty over filling and finding nothing wrong with the hose or the pressure switch, I decided to take the tubs out and clean them. Back together now and no sign of fill problem (yet). Do be careful with the plastic tub. I managed to put a 3 inch hole in the side with a the edge of a wooden scrub brush. Granted I was outside in 32 degree weather, but it seems as though the plastic had become brittle over time. Fixed hole this way. Rough sand, acetone clean, 4 layers of fiberglass soaked in epoxy resin. Two inside and two outside. Did it in two batches one after the other. Cured it overnight and fix is solid.

Good video now we have a clean, stink free washer in our rental unit. I did not have and could not readily find a spanner so in the end I bought a cheap 14" pipe wrench ($12.00) and cut the handle to 8 1/2 " so it would fit in the tub then it worked well for removing the nut. This is a great video, clear an concise. I have a question, I cleaned the entire machine because of smell when emptying. I unclipped and removed the tub cover, and the tub has a hollow ring mounted on top of it. When I removed this ring to clean it I noticed it had a liquid in it, possibly water, but could not find any holes for the water to enter or escape. My question is; is this ring supposed to have water in it? And, If not, can I drill a hole to let water out, then reseal the hole? The machine now vibrates in the spin cycle. Thanking you in advance for your reply.

Thanks for your feedback! While you've got it taken apart, it would be a good idea to wipe everything down with vinegar to kill germs and deodorize (the vinegar smell itself will pass). Once it's repaired, we recommend regularly using Affresh to clean the machine and get rid of odor-causing bacteria and detergent residue: www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-affresh-washer-cleaner-w10135699-ap4308494.html

I have an older KitchenAid washer very similar to the washer being worked on here. It leaking intermittently. I’ve watched your other videos showing common areas for leaks but can’t seem to find. There aren’t any obvious water trails indicating where it might be leaking from. I’m assuming it’s either the tub seal or pump. My question is is it possible for the seal to have an intermittent leak or will they leak consistently?

We have a series 80 Kenmore. The outer tub cracked, and it seems to me this was caused by extreme wobbling when washer spins. Yet, upon disassembly, all springs as shown in this video are connected. I don't want to spend money on a new outer tub, so are there any ideas as to why this is wobbling so violently? It shakes the wall....thanks.
@JimTMcDaniels14 жыл бұрын
You may find you can fix the crack I would try, first cleaning the area thoroughly and lastly with rubbing alcohol. Then using super glue in and around the crack and then sprinkling with bakng soda on both sides around the wetted crack area Repeat wetting the crack area outline with super glue and then sprinkle with baking soda till you build up some on both sides. This super glue reacts to the baking soda making a very hard plastic repair. I don't know why it was so unbalanced Check the top ring is suppose to have a liquid in it to help reduce unbalancing issues. Take care

I found out what those are here recently,they are actually 3 of them ,when you buy a new washer it comes with locking pins so the whole insides dont move during transit,sometimes when you get a new washer it will come with a yellow string of sorts that sticks out the back,like a loop, you pull the string out, this in turn detaches metal pins that hold the base together and the pins drop in these little cups to stay in the for the life of the washer,i was taking mine apart and i was like WTF? never heard of them before,guess they dont want the assembly moving while they are beings transported new.

The clutch is spinning but the shaft is not. the drive block looks ok from the top. Would that indicate a different problem ?, (such as the clutch or a broken shaft, ???).

The message on the top of the tub actually says, "Plug not removable". This is referring to a nearby plastic Philips screw-in plug that appears to be the fill-hole for the balance ring. We were told a few comments above not to try and remove that fluid. It's needed for balancing the tub. My inner tub was stuck, too. I got it free by giving the top of the grey metal part that the spanner nut screws onto (the drive block, not the shaft) a shot with a hammer while pulling up on the outer drum. (Best done with an assistant!) One or two knocks should do it. Don't damage the threads on the block's outer surface.

@appliancepartspros7 жыл бұрын
Usually when things are stuck like that, the first thing we recommend is a thorough soaking with Rust Buster to dissolve some of the gunk that has it stuck. Then you may need to take something like a rubber mallet to tap it free. .

nvm it wasn't too long, mine was long enough. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! My 20 something year old washer is in desperate need of a deep clean. It stinks and so do all my clothes :(

Patched the outer tub, probably a coin broke it. I used shards of plastic from parts of the drum to solder over the crack after spot welding them with a solder gun. Use a low heat soldering gun or you'll screw it up. Springs are giving me a problem putting them back. Good video, thank you and youtube, I'm just bad at this stuff...but it should all work.

annierose11 Glad the video helped you get the appliance fixed! Patching is not the best way to repair these, as it could fail again.

trying this - got past that specialized nut but no way is that inner tub just easily coming out - it's always something, isn't it?
@CthulhuInc6 жыл бұрын
after leaving the thing soaking in wd-40 overnight, the inner tub [finally] let go. the inside sleeve of the inner tub is heavily rusted, so it needs replacement. the cause of the noise? seems there was a small nail between the inner & outer tubs! now that that is out of the way, it should run quietly again. sigh.

Can you advise how to get the inner tub off of a corroded shaft without breaking something?
@appliancepartspros7 жыл бұрын
Tap the center shaft of the inner tub with a rubber mallet to help break it free, rock the inner tub back and forth then tun the tub and rock it back and forth again. It may take a while but the inner tub should come free so you can lift it out.

Okay, our tub has not needed to be removed in over 20 years and is fused tight. How do we break that fuse to remove the tub?

I did everything as instructed, however, the tub still seems unbalanced when it goes into spin cycle. All my springs are good and the balance spring on the back is on. What's the issue? why does the basket bang up against the housing unit?
@ancel19618 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Acevedo...This reply is a year too late, but I'm posting it for those who come across the same problem you experienced. It sounds like your washer's Skate Plate became misaligned when you removed your tubs. It's a simple fix...The part is not broken...It just needs to be positioned correctly Appliance Parts Pros part number: AP6008860

So i took my inner tub and top apart to deep clean it. It was seriously dirty. When i put everything back, the agitator is now on when i first turn it on (when the water is filling).....also after a spin cycle, water gets pumped in for a minute making everything soaking wet again....what could be the issue?
@josephbrabenderiii20494 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you detached the tube to the water level switch and also reattached when partially full when water started.leaking to floor. You CANNOT reattach with water in tub or lies to switch. Empty tub below assembly where tube attaches and attach empty tube. Been there, done that.

AppliancePartsPros I used the 3m marine glue it drys like a rock and is water proof. If the 6 bucks doesn't do it just give in the tubs are around 90 bucks.

lmao, 3 taps on the spanner nut and it starts to spin like a helicopter. In real life: 1) put looooooots of penetrating oil, 2) tap tap tap tap tap tap 3) more oil, 4) bang bang bang 5) more oil, more bang bang bang 6) get frustrated, bang bang, call few companies who would help you do it, only to get refused 7) angry, decide to dump the washer, buy a new one 8) frustrated at the market seeing overpriced junks and how you could save a lot of money by fixing your current washer 9) come back, repeat tap tap, bang bang, 10) cry, 11) drink 12) cry more 13) go back to step (1)

I need help how do I take water out of the outer tub
@appliancepartspros6 жыл бұрын
If you're trying to get water out of the balance ring, DON'T. The balance ring is a part that is filled with fluid to help your washer maintain balance as it spins. It may make a sloshing sound as you manually move the tub around, but that's perfectly normal. If you remove the fluid from the balance ring, it will damage the washer.

What if you don’t have a spanner wrench?
@appliancepartspros Жыл бұрын
You could try to use a wrench and a mallet to knock it free.

Spanner nut on my 6 year old machine is really stuck on there. Sprayed it with PB Blaster twice and it hasn't budged. Going to go at it again tomorrow, it's LOUD smacking that with a hammer - like a gong. Don't want to wake the neighbors!
@appliancepartspros9 жыл бұрын
Jennykay85 Yes they do make a lot of noise, hope you are able to get it off! If it is so corroded that you can not get it off you may have to cut it off and replace it and the drive block.
@joefoss92498 жыл бұрын
I tried PB Blaster also, let it sit for a few hours ans still no go. Got tired of waiting, so I had to use a propane torch on the outer edges all around the spanner nut to get it to release. I replaced my tub seal a couple years ago and is started leaking again. This time I cleaned the shaft where the inside of the tub seal rests and will be applying silicone rubber sealant in this area also. The rust broke the seal & let the water out between the shaft & inner seal surface. I also used never sieze on the spanner threads when I reassembled to aid in future removal if required.
