I apply for application smps not to record, but to genuinely have fun. I never sign up for recorded smp's and get to know everyone really well before joining. Its way more fun without the pressure of content, and maybe once you get to know everyone well enough, everyone can start recording

I can't say I've ever gotten into an SMP through application, but after hearing some stories from friends who have, it does seem to usually follow the trend you described; an opportunity to meet cool new people, if you're lucky enough to find them amongst the other people with ulterior motives or have.. let's just say bad manners. I do think that they can get off of the ground, Kaboodle SMP comes to mind, however you need a strong leadership that not only has a strong concept, but understands how to manage a group of individuals that have never met each other before, and is knowledgeable of SMPs socially and technically. the thing is with something like this is you need a predetermined audience before hand else no one is going to watch the server. I have been on a few youtubers smps since i got invited by friends and they were really fun, but the only people who got a lot of views where the ones with an already existing audience. I recently joined merchants due to a friend and it’s cool but i just did not have the same care or interests so it clearly does not work as well

I am apart an smp and I must say, I am really enjoying it. Yes, smp‘s might be repetitive and yes, it might not be super original but this smp has gotten me many friends and I am on a server with people just like me. Even though the chemistry between some of the members isn’t always great, I love just logging on after school and chilling with my friends. So that’s why I disagree with the title, at least in my case. You do go through some interesting points and overall a good video 👍

As a smp owner who first started my smp just for a few of my friends, then slowly building up the smp into a semi-public one just for the sake of not losing the original legacy via inviting strangers online to join, befriend each other and enjoy peaceful minecraft gameplay, i feel stupid now Honestly tho we're all doing good in case of concern, I lead people to meet each other and become friends, we had a lot of good times, and surprisingly there were only 3 major exploiting issues we had to fix up over nearly 2 years since the server started. While you make some good points in this video there are a couple things I wanted to point out, first of all you’re right about people having good and bad chemistry but you’re wrong in the fact that it can only come from real life friends, personally I’ve made a decent amount of friends online, Secondly, you’re missing a big part of the picture, if these SMPs were looking to be just friend servers they wouldn’t have posted it on KZbin in the first place, in my opinion there’s nothing wrong with content creator smps searching for content creators, and while sure applying is annoying it is not a big issue. Also you are completely right about smps being unoriginal and boring but to me as long as the smp doesnt have too many op weapons, has a good group of ppl who have good chemistry, and has content creators dedicated to not making smp slop content, sounds like an smp that anyone can enjoy.

I think it’s about mindset as well I’m in an smp with applications, but it’s one where every member votes on the person and if they feel they will fit in they get accepted The server started with a group of friends and occasionally a new member joins and they fit in well and become part of the friend group and actively play We encourage content creation but it isn’t mandatory and we play for fun If people want to make a storyline on our server they can as long as it doesn’t consume everything

As an SMP owner, I'm heavily against smps that have apps in order to get in, but with the friend part, that didn't need to get added, you CLEARLY don't wanna meet new people and not become friends with them which is pretty sad if you have that mind set, I'm ngl. Meeting new people is a way of getting new friendships and connecting with other players. Some SMPs are PvP centric, and some aren't, and it shouldn't matter whether the SMP you're in is PvP centric or not. I have long time friends that I met in SMPs. You don't have to invite strangers if you don't want to, but that's the joy of meeting new people just like in life.
