Steve, after watching several more videos, the stand in this video looks like its also a no hinge saw horse. Very cool, with sash cord hinge with a spread limit cord and a removable sash rail to keep the legs securely open. Quite ingenious! Thanks again for your videos they are super helpful.

Steve do you have a video on the construction of your sash stand? I am stripping some old casement windows from my 100 year old house and bring the inside back to stain instead of paint and I made a makeshift stand, but I really like the one you have in this and the paint brush cleaning video. Love all your videos. I have learned a lot about restoring my windows and frames from your videos. THANKS!

@woodwindowmakeover What do you do to prepare areas that have been repaired with abatron, to be ready to accept oil primer?

Steve- @ 2:00 was the word you were looking for, "Penetration" of the primer?
@WoodWindowMakeover3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if it was that word in particular but penetration is definitely one of the things I was thinking about.

Why oil-based? Is it so that the glazing will adhere to it? Or because the old paints used on it were oil based and you need oil-based primer to seal that in?

it compliments and partially restores some of the oils that the wood has (or had in a very old window). It will penetrate the wood a bit and adhere really well. Also using water based primer on wood, especially new wood, may raise the grain, which will then need to be lightly sanded. And, yes it also works well with the the glazing putty, which is linseed oil based. It helps keep the wood from absorbing some of the oil out of the putty, which will then shrink, and then crack, and then you start over!
