My parents saw Star Wars in 77, they loved the Prequels when they first came out and they never stopped loving them. They saw the flaws, but still enjoyed them. I actually hated on the prequels as I got older. I grew up with original trilogy thanks to my parents, and I saw all the prequel's flaws critically and it made me cringe in comparison to the OT. But then my parents told me to watch the Clone Wars, and I did. Really made me come back around to prequels. And after the Last Jedi, I now miss Jar Jar Binks. lmao that's mostly a joke (about Jar Jar) but almost kind of true.

@@kapuccinno1163 there's old interviews where George Lucas stated that he had plans for 3 trilogies to be made: one political, one personal, and one philosophical. A new hope was released to work as a stand alone movie because, well, it's impossible to know how good the first movie will do. Still, the basic lore and rough draft of how it all fit together was all there from the beginning.

ROTS: the dialogue during the Mustafar duel Solo: Lando having a crush on his droid RO: the line about "choking on your aspirations" ANH: the Tosche Station line TESB: the "scruffy-looking nerf herder" line ROTJ: the dance sequence in Jabba's palace TFA: eh...Hux's Nazi speech? That's the closest thing to "corny" I can think of from that movie. TLJ: Leia pulling her Mary Poppins maneuver TROS: "Somehow Palpatine returned." They did world building amazingly but their issues were apparent. The prequels and OT are completely different. The ot takes place in a time where the galaxy has been broken and empire is in complete power, it shows a dirtier and more undisciplined time. The prequel trilogy takes place when everything was solved through democracy and there was generally order and safety. They are completely different

Mustiboi Salman I don’t blame him for selling the rights, after all the hate he received during the prequel era from the core fanbase why would he want to make more? On top of that, he kept tampering with the OT adding Vader “Noooo”’s to ROTJ and a bunch of other stuff. Now people are calling for George to come back but it’s too late. I’m sure he’s laughing all the way to the bank. It’s probably satisfying for him seeing the corporate machine that is Disney struggling to make a decent Star Wars movie that fans unitedly like. Also likely disappointing for him to see something he loves treated disrespectfully. I believe had the fans responded better to the prequels initially he would have still been making the movies, for better or for worse.

Go Time Now I was probably the same age as you, but I wasn’t attached to Star Wars until I was 18, (22 now) and when I rewatched them I couldn’t get over the crap dialogue, flat performances, and utterly stupid villain decisions. People complain about plot holes in these new movies but god damn if palpatine’s plan from the beginning isn’t the most convoluted and luck stricken thing throughout and then the movie wants me to believe “it was just as he intended the whole time.” It’s unbelievable, and that’s a problem I have with all the prequels nothing is believable, Anakin’s turn to the dark side, the characters themselves, and the non sensical ass plot.

They’re monsters,” and Padme, a senator and a character trying her best to curb the war basically says what he did was okay because he was angry. And I’m sorry but no he did have a troubled past, the kid may have been a slave but his demeanor showed that he was hopeful and and a beacon of light in a shitty place. Watching the way he was portrayed in the first film you can’t seriously say his time as a kid had some psychological affects on him as an adult when he’s happy go lucky the entire film meanwhile adult Padme is creepily flirting with him. Also Luke isn’t nearly as whiny as Anakin, Luke didn’t question literally everything Ben and Yoda we’re teaching him, meanwhile Anakin acts like a total brat anytime anyone gives him advice. Also the kissing thing is that’s due to the fact that no one not even george Lucas new they were going to be brother and sister before the reveal.

Even with the beyond cringeworthy romance scenes, Attack of the clones is still much better than the sequels in my opinion. There's tons of movies out there with amazing dialogue. The world building in the prequels is seriously on another level. Kamino for example is a magnificent planet and Obi wan/Jango's duel in the rain is an extremely good scene.

The original canon did too. Palpatine in the og canon was resurrected lmao. The thing I don’t like about Star Wars in 2022 is they point out flaws in ep 7-9 which ep 1-3 share a few of the same flaws too. In the original canon and the Disney canon palpatine is resurrected. Secondly the world building in ep 1-3 was expanded but not even by that much to be honest. People associate ep 1-3 with all the new stuff that retroactively makes it okay but if you see ep1-3 stand alone nostalgia aside ofc it’s either worse than the sequel trilogy or just as bad.

Prequels have shitty writing, shitty dialogue, and honestly stuff is a bit too drawn out or too quickly. General g was introduced in the third movie and killed off and had basically zero impact that we tangibly see. Kidnapping the chancellor off screen doesn’t count. And the duels and certain scenes just go on forever specially the Anakin vs obi-wan duel. Not to say I hate them. I was once a Star Wars fan and loved them but I’m just saying something can be objectively shit or mostly subjectively shit and still be loved that’s fine. But admit it’s bad don’t pretend it’s like some paragon of writing.

I've always loved the Prequels. I think it's a huge generalization to say people liked the prequels just to spite the sequels. I think mostly, my generation just grew up and have a voice finally.

When the Prequels came out, the expanded universe was never retconned. In fact it was expanded. We got some good books, Knights of the Old Republic, Republic Commando, the Jedi Knight series, We even got that Obi-Wan game that let you play out events before Episode 1 and play Episode 1, Luke became a Jedi grand master and found the light side version of force lightning. There were so many good things. Then Episode 7 came out with Disney retconning the ENTIRE expanded universe. I am sorry, but even if the sequel trilogy was a shining star that were better than the OT...that doesn't excuse the retconning of an entire already existing universe. Also gonna throw this out there, KOTOR 1 and 2 were already arguably better than the OT...and Disney wants me to believe that MaRey Sue is better than Darth Fucking Revan and Meetra Surik? The prequels are not "suddenly liked". The vast majority of people hold the prequels in almost as high regard as the OT and have held that view since 1999. It's only a handful of dorks on the internet like Red Letter Media, Cosmonaut Variety Hour and Chris Stuckmann who hate the Prequels and who managed to convince a lot of people that everyone hated them. When Jar Jar gave Palpatine his Emergency Powers, at least it seemed like he was doing the right thing at time because nobody knew Palpatine was a Sith and the Republic needed the Clone Army to stop the Separatist threat. If Jar Jar had any idea who Darth Sidious was, he wouldn't have trusted Palpatine with the power. When Rose stopped Finn's sacrifice that was so poorly written. She crashed into Finn's speeder in a way that could have gotten them both killed while Finn was trying to save the whole base from a laser battering ram! And she topped it off with a kiss from a love that completely came out of nowhere. Even Finn was confused!

Palpatine's master plan was to win the favour of both sides of the war, manipulate them and then destroy them to put himself as the galaxy's one ruler. And through the course of the movies (and the both animated clone wars series) we see his scheme unravel. This had more thought put into it than anything in the sequel trilogy. Snoke died a worthless nobody so they had to bring Palpatine back in out of nowhere. Oh and everyone knows he's alive now... just because.

How can you think Episode 3 is "goofy and cheesy and in the Original Trilogy caliber"?! Its plot is greater than the plot of any Original film. The entire prequels are so underrated because all the people hate the politics because they don't want to accept that Star Wars is all about politics even in the Original Trilogy but it's not shown so much there. The Rebellion of the Original Trilogy could even be created because a dictatorship promising justice was reigning the galaxy. And the rise of Palpatine from Senator to Chancellor by making a trade federation invade a planet and later separating the republic and use these two parties to fight a war for him, only to make him emperor at the end because all the people want order and security again. Episode 1, 2 and 3 may seem boring until you realise that all of the story is just to create an Empire ruled by a seemingly humble senator and later Chancellor who manages to make a Jedi betray his stupid order that doesn't see his potential (Qui-Gon excluded). All this is just such a masterpiece which make "Jar-Jar stepping in crap scenes" completely forgettable.

What I liked about the prequels is they added a TON to the world of Star Wars from characters, planets, ships, politics, etc. adding more layers to the story. The sequels didn’t really add anything original just rip offs of original trilogy things: for example instead of Ewoks they had those little squirrel thingies, and instead of Tatooine they had Jaku. They “created new things” but they were pretty much identical to the old movies. Plot wise too, for example Rey is a starving farmer type person and Luke is in hiding just like Yoda and Obi Wan were, and someone in the Skywalker bloodline turned bad and got a scary helmet, Han Solo was the mentor who got killed in front of his pupils just like Obi Wan, like it was like they took the old movies, tweaked them a smidge, shot it with new actors and then released them.

Just so you know, prequel hate is different from disney trilogy hate. Prequel hate was about critizising a trilogy that admittedly had bad dialogue and a great deal of boring parts. Disney trilogy hate is about critizing a trilogy that made favorite past characters completely useless, made the accomplishments of said past characters worthless, opened up plot holes the side of galaxies into the entire storyline, having no overall moral or existing theme in the story, making characters completely overpowered right of the bat with virtually no character development whatsoever, copying the works of the former content creator and claiming it as their own original ideas, overprioritizing political views without it having any actual necessity for the plot, making movies that completely contradict eachother at every single turn and completely ignoring the fanbase and calling them ’manbabies’ just cause they can’t admit they made bad movies.

I used to love these movies as a kid. I recently re-watched them and they're a blast! @@barbarianjk2355 First, I enjoy the prequels, but for me the issues stem from something besides the CGI (Last shot of AotC looks worse than Battlefront IIs graphics) and forced emotions from the actors. The Prequels managed to create massive continuity issues with the story that the OT created. Listen carefully to Obi-Wans dialog in the OT, I'm not just talking about Leia somehow remembering her real mother even though she died in child birth. Here are some quotes that make no sense thanks to the prequels "He didn't hold with your father's ideals, thought he should stay here and not gotten involved." Sure seems like Owen Larrs knew Anakin quite well despite the fact that they only said hello to each other in the Prequels Ben Kenobi stopped going by the name of Obi-Wan before Luke was born…not according to the prequels, but he stated that in a New Hope Obi-wan: "That boy is our last hope" Yoda:"No, there is another" in the prequels Obi-wan knew they were twins but somehow forgot she existed??? Obi-wan: "I took it upon myself to train him as a Jedi" . in the prequels he only did it as a dying wish for his master....who according to the OT should have been yoda only....seriously? Thanks to the Prequels, Obi-wan is either a perpetual liar, or he is senile... Anyways, despite those issues, the music is the best, the lightsaber duels are second to none, and they are still fun to watch.

​@@nexusfxcc err, Battlefront II was released in 2017, and AotC back in 2002. Back then it looked incredible, as GL was always trying to do new things and push the technology forward. Sometimes the results weren't the best, but it was a good risk imo. Still, doesn't make any sense to compare. But these are not continuity issues: - Leia remembering her mother. Whether she originally meant her real mother or not, there's no way to know if she did remember her or not, just by watching Ep VI. She could simply be referring to her adoptive mother. -Yoda saying "No, there's another" isn't really one either. You could simply say that Obi Wan did believe in Luke being the last hope, even if he knew about Leia. If it was a continuity error, then it'd be caused in Ep. VI because there Obi Wan very clearly knew that they were separated when they were born. - I really don't see a contradiction between "I took it upon myself to train him as a Jedi" and doing so because his master asked him to do it... I mean, he did take it upon himself in the end. Please ellaborate on this one. - You can interpret that Yoda instructed Obi Wan during the time of his exile through the Force (as he mentions that he has training for him at the end of III). But also I've read the explanation that Yoda basically instructed all padawans for a period of time, as seen during Ep. II. I think this is also addressed in TCW, but I don't remember well right now. I agree that the Owen Lars part is a continuity error. But even then, you could say that he simply stated that "after the fact" (as in somewhere between Ep. III and IV). It's not difficult to imagine a discussion between uncle Owen and Ben regarding the Jedi, ending in something on the lines of "I forbid you to bring Luke towards his father's path" or something like that. Again, "Obi Wan" is called "Ben" before Luke was born is a continuity error. I may be wrong, but I don't remember well if anyone at all calls him "Obi Wan" after Luke and Leia are born? If that's the case, he may simply have left with Luke and never been called Obi Wan again until Ep. IV. I'm not 100% sure on this one, though. But I agree that it sounds like it was a long time before they were born. I completely agree on the last part. I think that despite all of the issues, SW was always something very original, a work that always felt like no other, at least during the time Lucas was the main creative person in charge of the story, ideas, themes, tone, e tc.

What scene? I like prequels but Death Star run in EP. IV is probably one of the most if not the most "tense" scene in any SW film, because of the way it was shot. And I mean that as in literally tense. There is no jumping from an A plot to a B plot. The score and sound effects are phenomenal. The visuals are a little dated, but rebel heroes are dying one by one, while the Death Star's approach is imminent. The audience on the edge of their seats, leaving them feeling like it might be hopeless for this rag tag group to survive the Destruction from indomitable Galactic Empire and their super weapon. Sci-fi movies didn't usually have happy endings in those days either (p.s. I know SW isn't really Sci-fi).

The sudden resurgence in people rating the prequels highly when it was generally accepted that it was a flawed and disappointing trilogy overall is because all the kids who grew up with it are now adults and look back on the films with nostalgia goggles - and the awful sequels which made the prequels look better than they are. The over reliance on CGI makes them look incredibly dated, the script is cringeworthy in places and the acting is awful and almost pantomine'esque. Anakin's character arc and descent is so rushed and poorly planned that they had to alter the lore and have Padme die in childbirth to justify his erratic and absurd behaviour. The lightsaber battles are all style over substance and the romance between Anakin and Padme is just awfully realised and acted. The one thing they do excel at is the music but John Williams is just a legend so was not a surprise.

@wespozo humm.. yeah. And it's supposed to be that way, is not that you are smart because you noticed it.. we are meant to notice that about ep 7. A soft reboot was needed, not that I like it tho, but in terms of film making and publicity that was needed in order to re chapture old and new fandom. As well as the prequels needed to be it's own thing and that's why og fans hated it (people born in the 2000's seem to forget that). The new movies are hated by guys who grew up with the prequels, as well as the prequels were hated by the guys that grew up with the original triogy (you can tell me you didn't notice this being a kid in the 2000's and that's because social media wasn't a big thing back then, but oh boy.. you visit debate forums from that age and god... they hated on the prequels as much as people hate on the ST now). And I can asure you kids growing up with the sequel trilogy will hate a future trilogy if this it's made 10-15 years from now. The worst star wars enemy are star wars fans.

If you watch the first 6 in order, and suddenly watch episode 7, it gets extremely boring pretty quick because 1. it's basically the same story, even visually, but with not as good protagonists and 2. instead of letting you see how the characters grew and got mature over the years, they're simply back (or even worse) to where they were when Ep. 4 starts.

I loved the prequels maybe because I was kid when they came out, but I loved the OT too. However, just the feeling of seeing an inevitable story unfold in front of you, and witnessing it all like your parents before you, makes it all that more amazing. Clone Wars were the fucking cherry on top for me. When they had that young justice, Generator Rex, and Clone Wars lineup on CN, it was an awesome Friday.

But I watched them and I liked them even the character Jar Jar Binks. But it wasn't an obsession. -Now, I'm an adult, I watch the prequels from time to time and I became a huge sw fan. I always loved the prequels and then the Internet convinced me for like a year that they were bad. Then I watched them again and fell back in love with them. The Star Wars The Clone Wars is the best animated TV show ever made and I will stand by that claim until the day I die. No other Star Wars time period has more interesting world building and setting than the prequels. I mean I never liked Jar Jar even as a kid but like he really didn’t bother me, he’s just a background character that’s kinda a klutz than does a few important things and is pretty forgettable.
