No, it’s likely to need surgery if not responding to measures to help stool passage over a period. And if tummy is distended, better to treat sooner

@@falakfalak31 you would need glycerin suppository every 2 days or so to help passage. It will only work if the suppository stimulates the affected segment. Duphalac alone won’t help

@@falakfalak31 constipation can affect intake. Discuss with your doctor regarding stimulating with lubricated feeding tube to help pass stool once in a few days if even suppository doesn’t work. If not improved, will need surgery

Hi. My 4 yr old is on laxative as advised by her pediatrician. She had anal fissures. It was advised to reduce the dose once the stool is soft. She is taking 20ML orally. However, after 2 months, it did not become soft enough to reduce the dose. I tried to reduce the dose but her stool became hard and had red blood again in her stool. What should I do?

You need to change the diet to increase fiber and water intake. Maintaining Movicol is safe but you can reduce dose with the above

@@michellegarcia136 yes, but at this age, they may not enjoy the taste. It’s ok to consider other ways to increase fiber and water intake. Movicol is safe to continue but try half sachet daily and increase of stool hardens

Yes, both water and fiber intake. And reduce processed foods. Our genetic tendency as well as gut microbiome play a role

Thanks for the advice. I will follow it. You would be happy to know that processed food is a big No when it comes to her food and dietry habits. I have been 99% organic with choices of her food with a focus on high fibre intake as well. Fruit is the thing that is not very consistent on daily basis. I will try focusing on this too and i am sure it will help too.
