Looms come at various price points, but the least expensive would be frame loom (the ones I feature here). For example, the peg loom (lap loom) that I feature here comes in a kit and can be found on Amazon for $50 USD. It has all you need to get started :)

The ridges in your fingernails tell me that you have a B12 deficiency... do get get cold easily? A simple blood test at your next Drs appointment should let you know.. I’m sorry I have a deficiency and I waited so long I now have to do weekly intramuscular injections.. I love all of your lessons ❤️

Can't smaller pieces be sewn together to make a large piece?

You can absolutely sew together smaller pieces. No reason not to and, depending on what you are making, you may want lining on one side (for a pillow cover, for example) for better construction.
