My favorite April Fools prank was from [adult swim] in 2012. They began the night like previous years, beginning to play The Room. Then, about 30 seconds in they revealed TOM from Toonami and proceeded to play an entire night of classic Toonami anime and shows. When the word got out that Toonami was on, the viewership jumped from tens of thousands to millions. Seeing this response, Cartoon Network went on to actually bring Toonami back to air.

I hate Minecraft's April Fools jokes *because* they're so good. Minecraft's updates always have so little content given that it's literally the biggest video game in the world. They take so long, they're so lackluster, and then there's this random update that's just a joke that usually has twice the content of an actual update and it just makes every other update feel even more like a joke than the April Fools updates ever did. In isolation, the April Fools updates are fantastic and I wish I could love them, but in context of the other stuff we get, they just feel like a middle finger to the players.

The best April fools pranks are always the ones where you get something nice in the end. Homestar Runner having their classic April fools cartoons, adult swim doing toonami, it's playing with your expectations in a way that is delightful and surprising. It's the best when you think you're going to get something disappointing then you're giving something cool or fun instead. Last year's April Fools Day on youtube had some of my favourite pranks, with Dom Nobel doing an imaginary (and hilarious) Lost in Adaptation of the Room, with clever inside jokes to those who know about the production. Then Linkara posted a 100% serious Analogue Horror film called Winter of '83, catching everybody completely off guard! Plus the World of Warcraft April Fools patch notes are always hilarious. April Fools day is both my favorite, and least favorite day on KZbin. Least favorite because most of the videos in my subscriptions aren't worth watching because lol itsajoke. But then you get those special channels that take the day an opportunity to do something out of left field, but in a familiar way. Like FalseSwipeGaming talking about the "competitive history" of various joke Pokémon like Delibird, or Big Yellow, a channel mainly about competitive fighting games, deciding to talk about Insaniquarium because he likes the game.
@CyberDrewan Жыл бұрын
I remember the False Swipe Gaming episode on Ledian being especially good because the B-roll footage in the background was a constant stream of Ledian on-shotting Legendary Pokémon in the background, which was pretty much impossible without tons of setup. Essentially, every single one of those 5-15 second clips probably required at around 5 minutes of setup, if not longer. With as many as they stuffed into that video, that adds up real quickly. Not to mention they probably had to EV train certain Pokémon ahead of time to make sure that even the boosted hits KO’d.

The funniest April Fools Day prank of the internet has to be Cookie Clicker. Not because of any particular comedic value, but because of how the in-game seasons mechanics work, there's now just an in-game season that pretty much solely exists to do... nothing at all. Because changing it to be beneficial like every other season is would defeat the purpose of it being a prank. It's also, evidently, a NIGHTMARE for translators and modders, because it also changes a significant part of the game text. In short: the joke is exponentially more and more on the player the more technical they get, from minmaxxing to modding.

When I was in college, I was writing a fanfiction that was basically a parody of those classic "Mac/PC" commercials, but with Pokémon and Digimon. One April Fool's Day, when Pokémon Black/White 2 had yet to be released, I dedicated one chapter to revealing a "plot synopsis" of the new games; I made it incredibly dark and gritty in a way that no Pokémon game had or would ever be before immediately revealing the joke. Between the comedic nature of the overall fanfic, the over-the-top dark tone of my synopsis, and the release date, I figured no one would take it too seriously. I got two comments that day telling me they thought it was real.
@ankoku37 Жыл бұрын
The autism part is real as fuck. I'm predictably bad at picking up social cues which includes understanding jokes, but more specifically it's that I don't understand something is a joke if it's in a context where I'm not expecting a joke. Like, if I'm hanging out with friends and someone does something to fuck with me, I know we're joking around and I'll get it immediately and it's fine. But if I'm at work and a customer tries to do some playful banter with me, well that's not part of The Script and so I don't know there's a joke being played and I take it seriously. It's not SO BAD on April Fools Day because as the "designated prank day" I try to assume everything is a lie on that day, but I'm also really bad at keeping track of what day it is and so if I haven't got around to looking at the calendar or if I've spaced out and forgotten the day, especially if the prank is particularly convincing like an announcement that's drastic but not out of form, then I'll probably believe it and it's really tiring to live like this.

While it was touched on in the video, my biggest problem with April Fools on the internet is that it is no longer condensed into just April 1st. The entire point of April Fools is that you aren't supposed to believe anything you're told on April 1st, and yet because of how algorithms work its not uncommon to be recommended the videos or articles days or months later, long after the joke's passed by. This year I only got one or two April Jokes articles in my recommended feed on the 1st, and yet every single one of them was a joke on the 3rd. Worse then that, I've often been recommended joke articles all the way in September or October. At that point it's no longer playing you for being naïve, it's just outright lying to you! And it's not like this is a problem that has to exist. Most of these websites have in-depth algorithms for detecting what content is in a piece of media and weather or not to recommend it for something. If KZbin can smack a demonetization for saying "fuck" in a video, there's nothing stopping these sites from adding an "April Fools" tag that is automatically applied to content posted on the 1st, and then just blocking content with that tag on other days of the year. Make it an opt in function for those who aren't posting jokes if you have to. It would save so much headache.

A bit of a mundane one, but I think my favorite online April Fool's internet moments were either the Box dimension from Club Penguin, and when Bulbapedia became Slowpedia.

Whenever April Fools Day comes around, I always stay off of the internet and play some offline singleplayer games instead. Also, about r/place, it is true that the event in 2017 was just a fun event, but the 2022 event unintentionally became a prank when Reddit decided to wipe the canvas in the last hour, getting rid of days of everyone's hard work (probably because they found out streamers like XQC were using their audience to be toxic by targeting smaller factions to draw over tons of art). A year later, and a lot of people are still angry at Reddit for that decision.

My favorite internet April fools joke was back in 2014 when Mojang, the developers of Minecraft, forced a resource pack into everyone's game that replaced all the game's sounds with a villager's voice that narrated everything, and all player skins were replaced with villagers. It was so funny going into servers that day and seeing everyone's reactions!

So insanely cosmic, I started this video thinking "gosh, I wish Eddache was on Nebula so I could skip these ads, he's perfect for the service". YES!!!

That thing about the fake Zelda Movie trailer really hits the nail on the head with the problem with the April Fools jokes. Adult Swim really knows how to do it

Hey, you probably dont remember me but I went to comic-con on Sunday and saw you and just want to say thank you for making such good content (I had a staff and a green t-shirt)
@Ramuh. Жыл бұрын
This is a while later but I love the April fools jokes of "content where you wouldn't expect it" like a Nintendo KZbin channel talking about Playstation or a Football channel delving into ice hockey. Still providing content, and content that will still be good after April Fools Day. But still giving a small "what the heck" moment. It's like the comic swap, where you can appreciate it any time.

Laura Kate Dale told my favorite April fools prank about that lyric that Nintendo put in Smash Bros when Joker was added. Absolutely hilarious 😂

I miss when April fool's was just harmless fun like hiding a charger or making somone think they had food on their shirt or something

What I find annoying living in Australia where it’s less of a cultural phenomenon I see all these online April fools jokes on April 2nd, so if the prank is saying something close to reality I genuinely get confused/excited for the next 20 seconds until I realise it’s April fools in the rest of the world

We need to screw with the rest of the world by doing April Fool's when they're still in March.

This year was a good April Fools for Adult Swim. It seemed like they were gonna air season 2 of Smiling Friends, only for them to air episodes from season 1 remade with puppets instead, only for them to air the first episode of season 2 immediately after.

Eddache...? You're simply delightful. You somehow manage to be a balance of charming, funny, clever, AND (most rare of all in this day and age) somehow very REAL. Keep makin' stuff, ok? :) You're very good at this.

Can’t for every KZbinr to talk about how they’re “quitting KZbin” or releasing a video everyone wanted except it’s not that video tomorrow!

8:00 That war of the worlds panic story is a good story. Sadly it's just a story. There was no widespread panic. Drama was often featured on radio.

I remember when on the 1. of April 2021 the Webcomic "Swords" announced it was going to be adapted as a videogame, being "the world's first open world adventure MMO JRPG turn based dungeon crawler roguelike meelee dating simulator", with a crappily animated trailer and an absolutely stunning theme song. Cut to the 2nd of April 2022, when it was announced that, by popular demand, "Swords: Edge of Chaos" had entered developement!

Back in 2012, some people managed to gain access to the roblox admin panels and caused chaos to the site. Since it was April Fools when it happened, most thought it was a joke until the site had to be shut down. It was kinda genius to do that on April 1st of all days because others would think it was just a prank. But now the date goes down in roblox history.

I hate April Fools Day on youtube cuz for the past few years, the youtubers I love watching and barely upload post joke videos. Without realizing the day, I've fallen for these pranks many times and the disappointment I get after realizing it's a joke hurts.

I myself have autism and on April fools I genuinely believed an article that said Henry cavill was going to be in doctor who, had a good half an hour calming down and it was only up until watching this video that I went back to check and my mood kind of dampened.

I seen a video where they explained the reason they don’t like April fools is because they didn’t consent to be pranked. When you prank a friend you have an agreement that you’ll prank each other but on April fools anyone and everyone is willingly or not open to pranks. Which I thought was a good take. I go enjoy the silly one though like when KZbin allowed Darude Sandstorm to be played on all videos or Razer announcing something silly.

I really don't like April fools day I've always felt like pranks are just an excuse to be mean to others, then shame them for being upset A lot of the internet pranks are either just straight up lying and getting your hopes up (as mentioned in the video) or jumpscares. As an autistic person, I am easily fooled AND really sensitive to jumpscares. It doesn't help that those videos stick around forever too.. The only April fools videos I do accept are when people just take it as an excuse to make a really in depth video about something they're passionate about, but wouldn't fit their usual style of videos. Those are fun

I have mixed feelings about April's Fools. There are pranks that I like (like having content with a clickbait title that reveal the punchline only when clicked, like the Rick Roll or that thing about reading), but I hate the pranks that misinform or make you genuinely believe in things that will never be real.
