Cody, I have you to thank for opening my eyes up to more movies, but also specifically for intriguing me with Abigail. Seen it 3 times and it was fucking awesome every single time. I may not have initially gone to see it otherwise. We’ll have to see what films come out this year, but this very well may stay in my top 3 by the end of the year at least, mark my words. Really enjoyed this one 👍

Abigail is my favorite film of the year as well. Went to see it in theaters 4 times. First time I've ever seen a film that many times in all the years I've been going out to the movies, no joke. During the time it released, we had to figure out a day to put my dog down then it happened 3 days later, so my week went from bad to just flat out awful, and as weird as this is gonna sound considering how gory the film it, it provided so much comfort for me each time I saw it. Scream is my favorite series and I loved what Radio Silence brought to the previous 2, plus I love vampire flicks so I adored this film, and with how fun it was, it provided that film escapism I needed in that period of time. I would've loved the film no matter what time it came out but to have it release when it did helped me a lot and added another layer of enjoyment to the film itself for me personally.

9. Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver-Because A Child of Fire completely drops the ball when it comes to the setup, this movie has to build on the faulty setup to deliver a derivative, cluttered back half to this story that I thought had quite a bit of potential As a point of reference, I would go positive on the rest of these movies. 8. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two-Much like the first part of this story, Part Two is an enjoyable DC story that works as consumable superhero entertainment, while not being a lot more than that 7. Infested-I checked this one out because the director of this film is directing one of the next Evil Dead films, and with those expectations, I thought this movie worked pretty well for what it was 6. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare-As a massive Guy Ritchie fan, this film continues his hot streak he’s been on in making entertaining films across multiple genres 5. Monkey Man-Despite not being as impactful as it could’ve been, Monkey Man is an engaging mixture of revenge, action, culture, and revenge, which makes for an impressive directorial debut from Dev Patel 4. Boy Kills World-Even though I still can’t fully grasp what my thoughts on this film are, it absolutely kept me engaged with its style, characters, action sequences, and storytelling, which I can’t say about every movie I watch 3. Civil War-A well done exploration of both journalism and the horrors of war that, in my opinion, communicates its themes and ideas through its story and characters to make for an enriching film 2. Abigail-While it’s not necessarily reinventing the wheel when it comes to this subgenre or the horror genre in general, that doesn’t stop this movie from being highly enjoyable 1. Challengers-Even though I’m not quite pretentious enough to hail this as a cinematic masterpiece, it’s a rather great story that I shouldn’t have found all that interesting, but executing it with style and amazing performances to really bring it to life Here are the April 2024 movies I didn’t watch The Absences of Eden Arcadian Back to Black A Bit of Light Blackout Blood for Dust Breathe Cash Out Damaged Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead Downtown Owl The First Omen The Greatest Hits Hard Miles Humane Irena’s Vow LaRoy, Texas The Long Game Música Sasquatch Sunset Someone Like You Sting Strictly Confidential Unsung Hero We Grown Now Wicked Little Eaters Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp

Great rundown. Excellent reasons for points. I loved First Omen (I didn't mind that Damien’s mom wasn't a bitch 😏) and I loved Abigail even though it seems to have deep similarities to Livide (not Dracula's Daughter). It was a completely different kind of horror heist humor. Alisha Weird was great in that (as well as Wicked Little Letters, also a recent release). And I thought Monkey Man was amazing, too. I'd seen Origin when it came out and some of the Indian lore came full circle in my mind.

I maybe in a minority but I have never understood what everyone sees in zendaya. I think she’s a pretty girl but I don’t think she holds a candle to other actresses like Eva mendes, Jennifer love Hewitt, and Elisabeth Hurley. I get they’re older now but I just don’t get the hype of zendaya at all. I don’t think she’s a great actress either.

I liked all of the movies I saw in April, even the ones at the bottom are still pretty good: -The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: This movie was cool, but it could have been more historical and not just blowing things up. -Wicked Little Letters: This was a cool whodunnit, but revealing the villain halfway kinda ruined things. -Ghostbusters Frozen Empire: I had a blast with this movie, but it was kind of a one-time watch. -Challengers: I really liked this movie, and I thought it had great and layered characters. It's not an all-time masterpiece like critics are saying though. -The Long Game: This was a great movie that I don't hear enough about. It was a serious sports drama that explored themes such as racial prejudice and trying to prove oneself. -Civil War: This is my new favorite of the year. I loved how it wasn't strictly action, and seeing things from Kirsten Dunst's point of view made things interesting because it put us into the shoes of the people who are having to live during this war.

Completely agree with you on Challengers, especially the comment about too much style. Based on non raves I've read, that is a big flaw for a lot of people. I respect Luca for going a little different. It's refreshing to see a director a lot consider "auteur" to go a little more commercial but I wish he had demanded a better script from his writer. The characters were not fleshed out well, especially Tashi imo

Maybe I was too tired that night, but “Boy Kills World” just didn’t hit me the right way. I’d have to see it again. Sucks that Abigail only turned up a little over $10mil over opening. Sad, when you go to a movie you know is gonna be kick ass, and one I’ve been really looking forward to, the theater is barely half full. Eh. Seems like during my favorite summer of movies (2010) the theaters were much more packed and just an overall more excitement around them.

In regards to the last scene in The First Omen, there is like seven years in between The Omen and Damien and twenty years in between Damien and The Final Conflict so there was plenty of area they could have made The First Omen sequels and honestly those could have led to an Omen 5… would they have been good? Doubtful but no one really expected The First Omen to be good.

Most tarantulas especially NEW WORLD species don't like to bite. It takes too much energy which they need for food. Nope, instead they turn around and scratch off ass hair at you. Yeah, itchy spider ass hair doesn't sound so scary. XD

The spiders in Sting and Infested aren't tarantulas, though it would have been amusing to see a scene in Eight Legged Freaks of the giant tarantula flinging hair at people, probably would have made it even better, though they only fling hair when they are scared or feel threatened not at what it considers a meal.

Interestingly enough the subplot with the Nazi spy in Ungentlemanly was the only part I didn't find boring. The action scenes felt way too fake and absent of any real stakes. Inglorious Bastards had short bursts of action up until the finale, but those few seconds always left a lingering impact.

I think whereas the whole Snyder thing is concerned, I think both are definitely to blame but I do think it was mostly on Netflix and Zack just going along with it. Look at what Netflix is doing with Cobra Kai by splitting the episodes into three release dates. They’ll do the same thing with Stranger Things 5. Bet. Anyways, they saw an opportunity to cash in on the Snyder fandom with 4 release dates…. Or 3. Netflix and any other streamer will look for any opportunity to milk a fandom.

We DEFINITELY have different criteria for what constitutes a 10/10. LOL. Most movies I see end up 5,6 or 7. Takes something special to get a 10 from me. With that being said, same for 1,2 and 3. I have to really hate everything about a film to give it a 1.

Infested disappointed me so much. Probably went into it expecting too much so I’ll accept partial responsibility for that. It looked great, the acting was solid, and I love that they went the Arachnophobia route and used real spiders for certain shots. But the characters annoyed the piss out of me and the writing just did not work for me. Maybe it’s partly because I’m not French, so there are probably some cultural elements that I’m just not getting. But the constant yelling and screaming combined with loud, shitty French rap was a sensory nightmare for me. I was really hoping for some more gore as well, and there was pretty much none. It was like the movie equivalent of a subpar handjob. Decent enough for what it is, but ultimately unsatisfying.

First time we disagree, I just love Challenger!!! They're shitty people but I think that's the guilty pleasure, I did care for them knowing they were really narcissist and selfish! Just love the script, the acting, the music, everything!!!!!

I was loving Abigail in the beginning. Then the middle part was too long, but still like it. Then the ending infuriated me. In all midea ancient vamps are shown as the strongest in the food chain, but a freaking baby vamp was cleaning the floor with an ancient vamp in the end? A bich that got the Loki treatment didn't broke her back? An arrogant asshole who seems to be morally gray with strong beliefs became a B-movie Freddy Krueger by the end? A monster is humanized by the end just in order to pull out a plot armor and saved the protagonist? The first 2 kills are off screen, another kill is just the classic kill we always see in vamp movies, and the other 3 kills are just Ready or Not kills?

For me I just really didn't care for how the told the story, think it would have been better starting at the beginning going all the way to their big match or starting with parts of the big match then telling the story from beginning to end. The way they told it they ruined the very concept they were selling of who is going to "win" Zendaya's love

9: rebel moon part 2: a bland generic film that feels shackled to a pg 13 rating Huge gap 8: The ministry of ungentlemanly warfare a good but not great brutal action movie 7: arcadian: solid creature feature but I wish there was more nick cage and that it was less generic 6: boy kills world: a brutal higly styilized action movie with a fun performance from bill Skarsgard 5: Spy x family code white: a really solid anime spy movie but my problem was that I watched every single bond movie in feb-apr so I was burnt out with spy films 4: Abigail: I'm not a big horror fan but my friend dragged me to the theater to see this and it it is a great bloody vampire movie with a great cast 3: Monkey man: a great action movie that is a whole lot deeper than I expected 2: Challengers: an erotic sports thriller that is tightly edited and has an amazing musical score 1: Civil war: a truly horrifying war movie that is brutal while being beautiful and doesn't lean to one side or another with its messaging If I forgot a movie I will add it later I have recorderd all of these except boy kills world on letterboxd and I will review that I just saw it today
