A catch up on all the scenic work that’s been happening ‪@HighFell‬ The area East of Twizell Viaduct has been completed. Glebe Farm nestles below the 1865 stone viaduct across the valley at the end of Fell lane. It’s a hive of activity. The lawn mower is ready to cut the front lawn, the vegetable garden at the rear is cropping new potatoes, Gooseberries are getting fat along the wall and it could be a good harvest of pears from the tree clinging to the wall of the farmhouse. Farming is never easy and a puncture on a trailer tyre is not welcome! The farm spaniel has managed to discover something tasty to investigate in the bin while everyone is busy. Further up the lane is Paradise Cottage, it’s washing day and the sheets are out, but there’s time for tea and a chat as a friend visits. St Anne’s church sits higher up the lane. The area has long been linked to mystical goings on, the mound in the church grounds is rumoured to be a Viking Burial ground and various Viking artefacts have been discovered in Cragg Edge overlooking the cutting. Since the New Line went in, the simple crossing linking High Fell to Fell lane has been upgraded to a gated level crossing although the historic status of Cragg Edge prevented BR widening the cutting to take double tracks. It does make for interesting spotting though as the forced bottle neck means there is always something to see.

Thank you, making it on a board made it a lot easier to detail. 😁

Didn't realise you used forced perspective on this layout until you mentioned it in this video. It really does work well for a Valley scene. Explains why the layout looks large around the viaduct section.

The base layout is TT:120 but with British N being oversize and then some manufacturers being bigger than that, it works really well for TT:120. Going from a smaller scale to larger in small increments works. I tried some OO and HO and that was just wrong. I have seen some great uses of TT:120 with OO to do the same trick. Going smaller than the main scale seems to work quite well 😁

Thank you 😁 It’s amazing how building up the small details really bring things to life and really satisfying to do.

Thank you, I am really loving the hobby again after a long break. TT:120 really makes the most of the space but it’s still big enough to have some decent detail too 😁

Great farm / country scene. Wasn't sure about forced perspective with N gauge stuff in front of (rather than behind) the TT viaduct. But it seems to work very well.

My thinking was that it’s below the viaduct so to try and make the valley seem a bit deeper. The Metcalfe buildings in N are a bit oversize even for British N, so that helps. N vehicles and figures right next to TT doesn’t work. The tractor & trailer outside the church are TT:120. I also kept the scenic materials small in the lower areas, short static grass etc. it’s all an optical illusion 😁

ive took my 00 layout down and now doing TT120 finding it hard to get tt scale building is n gauge really ok or too small

It does depend on the setting. There are the Hornby TT:120 resin buildings that are great, a lot of other TT:120 scale buildings and structures that are 3D printed or laser cut, I have a wide mix of all these. The Metcalfe N gauge card kits are very close to 1:120 scale too, if you use them carefully on a layout you can get away with them. The Farm, cottage, Church and railway cottages on High Fell are all Metcalfe N Gauge. So is the viaduct, 😁

@@HighFell I used tissue paper and PVA and then a light watered mix of lightweight filler on my sons layout, that seemed to work ok, it's more about the painting you applied looks great. Any tips or links you can share would be interesting

@@_RandomPea texture seems to really help get the variations in shades but for mixing up paint, as a non artistic person, the concrete grey wasn’t just black and white, I added a fair bit of yellow in, almost thinking about the colour of the components of real concrete. Concrete yards as quite bright. Then used weathering powder to add the limes where vehicles would move along same path, etc. on the lane down to the farm the ‘tarmac’ is again a blend of darker grey and some brown etc. and then go back with a different shade in a few areas. I used some smoke colour powder to fade out where vehicles would run on the surface. Best advice is take some pictures of the surface and experiment mixing up paints to get something you are happy with. I use an old food pot as a palette, and keep changing the mix as I go. Must admit I have been looking at all sorts of things in more detail 🤣

This is really nice 👍 You get loads for the space with TT120 it would seem Ps - I don’t know if you removed one of your recent comments on my vid or if KZbin did (the sock cooker) but it wasn’t me 😆👍

TT:120 gave me the space to do more what I wanted. More possibilities coming as the range grows. KZbin must have done it. It’s only a bit of silly anyway 🤣
