Hornby TT:120 realistic coal loads

How I made realistic coal loads for my Hornby TT:120 21t mineral wagons. A very inexpensive and fun project with a magic twist. Using a magnet inside the load base and the magnetic tool I made on High Fell Tips and Tricks Episode 4, these coal loads are easily removable without lifting the wagon from the track or derailing the train; in fact you don’t need to touch the wagons at all! It’s not a new idea and I am sure others have tried this before but as TT:120 is bringing in so many new and returning modellers to the hobby, I think it’s well worth sharing.

Thanks for that, I bought some coal from Hornby and was going to use some of the foam from packaging to bulk it up a bit. I'll be doing the smaller era 3 wagons and the BR Rail Freight Hoppers when they are delivered.

Same idea Tim for any wagon and almost any load. Smashed up bits of cork with little bit of paint wash makes good Iron Ore. the steam locos look nice with a bit of real coal rather than the plastic finish but removed tender body first to stop glue running into electrics 😁

Amazon this time, I put a link in description, think they are described as 2x10mm. They work a treat on these TT:120 couplings, I think they could work on OO Tension Locks too. You could stick Ladderman down with spare ones so you know where he is!
