Having the 3rd intake valve cam at a different rotation to the other two draws out the time the inlet valves are open and allows more fuel and air mixture into the cylinder head before they close to allow for combustion and the two exhaust valves open. There are only two exhaust valves because it's a lot easier for exhaust fumes to get out than it is for fuel and air to get in.

Makes sense!
@madeleinegillett58926 жыл бұрын
There are also 3 intakes instead of 2 to take up more surface area in the top of the cylinder which would allow more fuel in again. My partner has a 98 R1 which has 5 valves per cylinder so there are 20 valves to check when they start tapping RIP 😂

I don't know how much they go for, but an oxy-acetylene torch cuts seized nuts like that off in literally seconds. It takes longer to light and adjust the torch than to cut the nut.

CVH engines (constant velocity head) have rockers, so it would be a rocker cover on that. This is an DOHC engine (double overhead cam (camshaft)), so it is a cam cover ;)
@HalfdeadRider6 жыл бұрын
Also you were right the first time, the cam lobes push down on the top of the valves. The grittiness has got to be metal fragments unless someone deliberately put sand in there. As you said, the engine was poorly maintained, that means oil was not changed enough not getting rid of metal shavings. To help extra if you like your engine, it's worth getting a magnetic sump plug to hold onto a lot of the shavings from normal wear.

You ridden one of these bikes? How does such a big single behave? It must have a lot of low end power even relative to your DRZ.

very nice video, i actualy own one of these. A little correction the Rotax Engines Bmw put in their Bikes had only 4 Valves. =) One of the most common Problems with these Engines are the Clinder Head Caskets, could you probably take a look at it or even show it if it has some missing or burnet spots? Here,s a bit of useless information Spicy Did you know that Rotax was a British Company part of Lucas Industries, I used to work for Lucas Aerospace and part of the Factory in Hemel Hempstead was called the RPP short for Rotax Precision Products. Sadly it's now just a waste land no longer supplying parts for the Harriers,Sikorski,s or Airbus,s and Stingray Missiles..Rotax made Ball Screws for Aircraft Undercarriages and Actuators as well as Engine's mainly for Aircraft. It all came to and End due to a certain Politician called Maggie😠.
