With only a handful of videos showing an Oil & Filter Change on the Aprilia RSV's on KZbin, this is without question the most informative currently and I'd highly recommend to any other viewers to follow the procedure demonstrated above. Top Job!

+ADC-K5 Thanks for your comments !!! That's where i made the vids for. I can endlessly search for procedures for my RSV but never find a complete one. I made several vids for maintaining the RSV... see the others on my channel. And spread the word ! Thanks for your comment. Coming soon is a head stock bearing change for the RSV and currently i am measuring and adjusting valve clearance on the engine... so that one will be here to see later to. (subscribe to keep in touch !)

yep, you are correct. I never fill oil without watching the level.... the level is key, not the amount i pour in. most of the time I fill it up to max. Run the engine, and it drops. Fill it again to halfway or 3/4 then go for a ride, and directly after stopping, look at the oil level, and fill up to max if you'd like. You need to look and/or fill up with a warm engine.

Lean the bike to left and right side so that every drop of the old oil comes out. Rotax recommends 15W-50 oil... Motul 5100 is a very good oil for example.

thanks for the nice Videos, for valve clearance and throttlebody adjustment !! i think i also will use the 10w40 because of the low connecting rod bearingshell clearence from the never models, how much km/miles do you ride with the 10w40 in the Rotax engine ? Have a nice day and thanks for the Videos Best wishes Chris

Does it matter if the oil on the sight glass is above the max line by about a few millimeters when the engine is warm. ?

Nice video. Do you use a crush washer on the magnetic drain plug? My RSV has a very annoying drip at the drain plug and I've swapped out 2 crush washers. Now I'm thinking the leak is because of the crush washer? I just looked it up and the spare parts catalog does not call out a crush washer. This leak is driving me crazy. Gets on the pipes - lower fairings. Somebody needs to help a brother out on this damn leak.
@NicovanderSteen6 жыл бұрын
hi Greg, the copper crush washer is only on the oil drain plug of the separate oil tank.
@gp57586 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nico! - I removed the crush washer and the drip is now gone! hallelujah.

hi, good video. I got recommended 15/50s semi synth. is that ok?
@NicovanderSteen7 жыл бұрын
hi, yes 15/50 semi is factory recommended. I used 10/40 in my case for about 11 years to reduce oil consumption. But 15/50 is good.

Hello Nico, sorry for the bad joke :) I never heard of that oil and I sometimes tend to make this kind of jokes. Btw, I followed your tutorial, I have a 2001 RSV Mille, and something interesting happened: I left the engine to get warm, I filled it properly, and before taking it out for a spin the level was almost at max. After about 10km I have noticed thatthe engine starts to warm rapidly, and the oil led started blinking so I got back home. It's late now and I can't proceed with further investigations, but the oil level is above max and the clutch is not working well. Got some advice? Btw, this is my ride scontent-fra3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/11424006_896177127115874_5755041156241205917_n.jpg?oh=0259b32ea942b529668f35a71c4733f1&oe=5977E59A

Nice Ride GuruSerj. At this moment i can't help you. Too little info to make a good guess. I had once a an oil led blinking, and it as my oil pressure sensor. Maybe in your case the clutch is gone ? it's cooled by engine oil, and maybe the gone clutch warms the oil too much. Check the clutch plates...

Nice vid but 10w-40 is too light for this engine. Has to be 15w-50

Rods Tawaa, I know that the factory standard is 15w-50 but 10w-40 does the trick for me for about 10 years !

Thanks for the compliment ! I love to service my bike, and I hope that you viewers learn a lot from it, as i learned it. I love to make vids about it for you viewers. Hope to make a couple of vids the next months (when winter leaves). I need to put some new brake and clutch oil in it, and also an overhaul of my master clutch pump.
