@@CharltonsClassics Everyday is a school day ☺️

What an odd breakdown. Ha ha. Every day's a school day, I guess. Glad it was an easy fix and isn't Griff great? Happy to help diagnose while you're stuck at the side of the road rather than just telling you to bring it in. He's a stand up bloke! Nice wee collection of bikes you've got there, Chris. The Mille's the best one though, eh? Ha ha
@CharltonsClassics8 ай бұрын
Yeah Griff is super helpful and so knowledgeable. I’ve called him many times for tips and advice and he’s always happy to spare the time to educate me. Couldn’t ask for any more. Haha thanks, I mean the RSV is certainly up there. Such a pleasure to ride and while she might not be to everyone’s taste, I think she looks amazing!

@@CharltonsClassics There's just something about the Mille that I don't think people get until they have owned one. I hear plenty of "never should have sold it" stories but I can't remember any " glad to get rid of it" stories. And you're right, they do look awesome!

Glad you got it sorted in the end , did you do the air box mod😂
@CharltonsClassics8 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. No I haven’t, but I did see your video on it. I called Griff recently to discuss this actually and he said a bit of oil in the air box is quite common, and that I should be careful not to overfill her. I’ll keep an eye on it and see how often it occurs 🤔
@pauln68036 ай бұрын
@@CharltonsClassics Yeah quite normal for oil vapour to end up in the airbox. But if your RSV is a keeper and has a standard 'box, it's worth looking into one of the modified options as they fill in the flat spot (around 5k from memory) and give a lovely noise when you tug the throttle cable. I had a Renegade on mine (essentially a carbon fibre plate and a large foam filter that sits over the throttle body intake stacks and replaces the entire airbox), it dropped the exhaust note deeper and the induction roar is one of the most addictive noises ever heard.
@CharltonsClassics6 ай бұрын
@@pauln6803 Cheers for the heads up there. Hadn't heard of the Renegade air box so will definitely look into that! Who'd have thought the Mille could sound even better than it already does! 😄
@pauln68035 ай бұрын
@@CharltonsClassics Sadly Renegade packed in quite some time ago. There were some details about home brew recreations on the aprilia forums. The Renegade solution was to remove the airbox in its entirety, replacing it with a carbon fibre plate with a couple of humps and holes to clear sensors and whatnot, and a large foam filter over the throttle body inlets. The Evo takes the lid off the standard airbox and adds a gasket that seals against the underside of the tank. The Evo style seals, whereas the Renegade does not. I had my old 03 Mille on the dyno with an Akra slip on, Renegade airbox mod and Power commander. Only 120hp at the rear once the fuelling was dialed but torque was a very healthy 77lbs/ft and a "massive midrange" according to the dyno operator. I still miss that induction roar.
@CharltonsClassics5 ай бұрын
@@pauln6803 Thanks for the details there. Shame they have gone out of production as it sounds like something many of the Aprilia guys would benefit from. I think the AP Workshops Airbox Mod is probably a good compromise and I'm fairly with the setup at the moment. Never going to get massive power from an RSV Mille, but she's very enjoyable to ride so that makes up for it 🙂

If I had the space, I'd have another 2003 R in black. I absolutely love the side view of that bike - something about the curve of the tail and swing arm. My RC8R might be more powerful, lighter and sharper but the Ohlins of the Mille R has this magic carpet thing where the faster you go, the more it floats over bumpy country lanes.

First video of yours i have seen. Whats this collector you speak of ?
@CharltonsClassics8 ай бұрын
So the collector is the section of the exhaust underneath (between the headers and the link pipe). You can have two branch welds inserted which increase airflow and most people say it adds around 10 bhp to the midrange. I did a video on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYXUi6x6ntNgrNEsi=Qurtcpzl8RSy_sh0

@@CharltonsClassics It's not really a gen1 concern, was more of a problem on the gen2 bikes but, iirc, it's a resistance issue and the first to act up will be the reg/rec connector block. I checked mine when I bought the bike, decided the connector was a bit brittle and sad, clipped it off, hardwired it, just in case and haven't had any bother.
