Hey Nico,great vid....I just finished doing the bearings on my Tuono after watching it.The steering had a "notch" right in the middle and it really spoiled the handling.So I replaced the bearings.....I used ball bearings not taper rollers...and now the bike feels great.Many thanks.

Great video Nico. In English we call the tool you used for removing the race on the lower stem a 'Chisel', pronounced as in 'Cz'ech!!

Nico, bedankt voor de duidelijke uitleg voor het vervangen van de balhoofdlagers. Ik ga binnenkort de balhoofdlagers vervangen van mijn 2003 Tuono. Gekke vraag misschien, maar zou ik die zelfgemaakte tool om de lagers aan te draaien van je kunnen lenen? :-)

hi, uhm ja, dat kan no problem. (een kleine symbolische vergoeding stel ik wel op prijs... laten we zeggen 3 nieuwe golfballen (ik golf tegenwoordig graag). Kom je dat ding halen ?

@@NicovanderSteen haha, mooi. Ik ga eerst even checken of het niet de stuurdemper is die zorgt voor het 'nokje' tijdens het sturen. Zodra ik ga beginnen met het balhoofd, dan neem ik even contact met je op.

Hector, what i did, and you can do: put the bike front, and back up in the paddock stands. The paddock stand on the rear will stabilize the bike while working on it. Get the panels of and put the woods underneath the bike. a small piece of wood will fit past the exhaust pipe and reach the engine. Then when all is in place, i get the front paddock stand off...

I am having strange feeling in the bars like a warped disc at low speed and a light judder a medium speed but ok at high speed. I fitted new discs and pads thinking the disc was worn but I still have same feeling. People say it may be the wheel bearing or head bearing? Did u experience feeling like this before you changed your head bearing? My bike had a head bearing within the last year. Have you any ideas please

Is it possible I have some slack since the bearing was replaced? Is the big nut at the top of the yoke the Top yoke fixing plug and will it do any good if I check it is to the proper torque? Thanks

If they did not tighten the head bearings correctly they could easily worn out within a year.....The feeling I had was 2 things.1. when I did brake, the last 2 meters before I stopped (so at low speed) there was a notch or an itch in the brake trajectory.So like it if the pads didn't work for an half a second or so.2. I heard a cracking sound when I walked my bike to a parking spot, and steered it at full turn.That gave me the idea of having problems whit the head tock bearings.If it is the wheel bearings, you could check that when the wheel is out. Just roll the inner sleeve with your fingers... it should slide evenly and without any resistant.You could check the head stock bearings by having the front wheel off the ground. Pull and push the wheel, and feel if it moves.... if it does, it's probably the headstock (worn out or not tight enough.

Normally you can't. What you could do is put the bike from the ground using two paddock stands. Them put a piece of wood or a small hydraulic lift under the engine. If it's is stable, the release the front paddock stand.....

So also my vid for that. if you release the top plug, than you can tighten the headstock with a pin and a hamer... just to hamer the nut a small piece tighter.

Hoi Nico. Ik kom zelf van een Tuono 2007 en ga een falco rijden. Het valt mij op dat deze veel zwaarder stuurt, zou dat te maken kunnen hebben met de balhoofddragers? Of normaal voor n falco ;)

Jeroen, maar gelukkig blijft het een Aprilia. Ik denk niet dat het aan de lagers ligt (zou wel kunnen , maar dan meot je ook nog meer merken denk ik), Ik heb een Falco gehad voor mijn huidige RSVR en inderdaad de Falco stuurt zwaarder (ik had m nieuw). Ik denk dat het Frame (lengte) en balhoofdhoek van de RSVR en Tuono meer gemaakt zijn op stuurwerk dan het sportief toeren van de Falco. Maar blijft een mooie machine, en al mijn video's komen ook bij een Falco van pas !

Altijd aprilia Nico :) ben na een uitstapje naar Japanse 4 cil snel weer terug. Nu dus de falco zal dan gewoon ff wennen zijn, was iig blij met de ouderwetse power en sound. Bedankt voor je reactie!

moet binnenkort nog een video maken van het vervangen van een startrelais..... want de mijne is kaduuk, en start nu niet.(eerste relais in 16 jaar Aprilia rijden) Deze week komt mijn onderdeel binnen, dus volgend weekend er even opzetten....

Jeroen, dat weet ik niet zeker. ik denk dat de diameter van de voorpoten van een Falco niet dezelfde is als van een Tuono....

it's 40NM first time. Then slacken says the book, and tighten again at 20NM. But i think you should always check if the steering moves freely. Thighten if it is too loose, slacken if it is to tight.

No, the tighting at 40NM is for setting the bearings into place. loosen again, and tighten to 20NM is enough.
